Sixteenth Sunday in
Ordinary Time
For you are great, and you do wondrous deeds;
you alone are God. Psalm 86:10
From the Heart - by Fr. Kern
It has been quite the week since I returned
from the Steubenville Conference. Last
weekend over 1,500 youth from the Midwest gathered in
Rochester at the Mayo Civic Center for an energy packed
and faith filled weekend. I personally heard confessions
for about 8 hours Friday evening through Saturday even-
ing. It was incredible to see the depth with which these
high school students were searching for God and the de-
sire to live out a personal relationship with Christ. The
conference gives a powerful proclamation of Jesus Christ
calling each of us into relationship with Him and for us
to make Him the center and focus of our lives. I am ex-
cited to bring our youth to the conference next summer
and have already begun plans to put it in motion! Along
with the conference, I am anticipating organizing a mis-
sion trip for our youth, a junior high Catholic youth
camp, and getting a high school youth group active
again. I hope the efforts and excitement that has been
communicated with me about these plans can transfer
into commitment from our families to make the faith in
our youth a priority both in parish ministries but also the
top priority in our busy lives.
In its own right, the Totus Tuus Faith Formation program
that was here this week sought to do the same by teach-
ing our young people the faith and aiding them to learn
who God is and what His plan is for our life in a fun and
engaging way. Each year the curriculum changes, this
year the Totus Tuus team focused on teaching the 10
Commandments and the Luminous Mysteries of the Ro-
sary.
We had a gifted team who brought their own unique per-
sonalities and excitement to the week and I think you can
ask any of our youth who attended and they will tell you
they had a great week. I would like to especially thank
Vicki Kunkel who organized many of the week’s details
and was present throughout the week to keep everything
going smoothly. A special thank you goes out to as well
Jim and Arleen Swanson and Jim and Gloria Langworthy
for housing the team during the week. At the end of each
class the team ends with the phrase, "Live Jesus in our
hearts" to which the children respond: "forever!!" and the
louder the better!
Next week will be the diocesan missionary cooperation
plan. The Diocese of Winona organizes a weekend in
each parish throughout the summer for a missionary ap-
peal so that our parishes can more readily share in the
entire mission of the Church throughout the world.
Thank you for welcoming Fr. Bill last week and this
week for graciously welcoming Father Thomas Carroll
of the Piarist Fathers who serve the poor through educa-
tion around the world including in the Appalachian
Mountains in Eastern Kentucky.

Faith Formation
The Maple River School system has begun a new “Angel
Fund” to help those families who through various circum-
stances have fallen behind on their lunch account. They owe
money for lunches accumulated throughout the year and are
having a hard to impossible time paying it. Maple River is ask-
ing the area churches to contribute to this fund, to be “angels”
of help to these families in need. We have always been a very
generous community and this is an opportunity to help very
locally. In our tri-parish churches we are asking
that anyone who is willing and able make a contri-
bution to this “Angel Fund” sends a donation to
the church, or directly to the Maple River business
office, marked for the “Angel Fund”. If you have
any questions you can contact Ann Langworthy at
the school, or the tri-parish office.

From the Totus Tuus Team:
Every Catholic has the responsibility to know and serve God. Totus Tuus is an excellent tool for the spiritual growth of Catholic youth. Last week was an exciting opportunity to experience our faith for us teachers, the students and com-munity. As a team, we’ve received tremendous hospitality and support from parishioners, for which we are eternally grateful. It’s wonderful to see the Holy Spirit at work in each and every one of our lives! Thanks you so much for the wonderful week; we hope to see you next summer. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue Jesus’ min-istry on earth.

St. Anthony Catholic Gift Store
Located in the hall at St. Teresa Church.
Come and check out new items: beautiful
new rosaries and many sacred pictures.
Cards and gifts for many occasions. Books
for youth and adults.
All proceeds from sales go to support the many initia-
tives for the youth of our parish that Father is promot-
ing. Stop by the store to support our youth and aid your
personal devotions.
The Piarist Fathers, visiting us this Sunday, were founded by
St. Joseph Calasanctius in Rome in 1617. In addition to the
vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, the Piarists take a
fourth vow to educate youth. They operate between 195 and
200 schools in 32 countries around the world. One of those
schools is located in the Appalachian region of eastern Ken-
tucky. We are asking for yur support in helping us not only in
our educational work in Appalachia but in our many outreach
programs designed to help those living in poverty in the moun-
tains. Please be generous in your response.
