FOSTERING A MORE VIBRANT CHURCH On July 24th, Father John Jerek, Vicar of Clergy, sent official notice that Bishop Murry has appointed Father Ed Stafford pastor of St. Ambrose, Garrettsville and St. Michael, Windham, effective August 15. Father Stafford will continue to serve as pastor of St. Joseph in Mantua. As outlined in the Pastoral Plan for the Diocese, St. Michael will be an oratory (church building not used for weekend Mass, but is available for feast day celebrations, weddings, funerals, and other prayer opportunities as determined by the local pastor). Per diocesan regulations, Masses will be adjusted so that the pastor is limited to three regularly scheduled weekend Masses (schedule and timeline yet to be determined). Please keep Father Stafford and these parishes in your prayers during this time of transition.
THE EFFECTS OF PRAYER Whoever prays much by night, that person’s face is fair by day.

Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle and become more “other-centered” and less “self-centered.”

SYMPATHY We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Mariah Scala, daughter-in-law of Ron & Diane, and of Virginia Schultz, who both recently passed away. May our risen Lord bless you each with His healing presence.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Apart from the period from Thanksgiving through Christmas, the summer is a favored time for family reunions. We trace family trees and recall our origins. Worship has a family tree as well, and the way we celebrate today has been influenced by various styles and customs through the centuries. We are Western Christians of the Latin Rite. By far, we are the most numerous Western Christians, but there are other ritual families as well. The Archdiocese of Milan in Italy follows the Ambrosian Rite, Toledo in Spain preserves the Mozarabic Rite and the Arab language, and Lyons in France is home to the Gallican Rite. Other liturgical families, such as the Celtic in Ireland and the Sarum in England, faded away after the Reformation. Until recent times, members of some ancient religious orders such as Carmelites and Trappists followed a pattern of Mass that varied slightly from the plan observed in Latin Rite parishes. Isn’t the Catholic Church the same everywhere? Not at all. It never has been! The existence of so many liturgical families in the West reminds us that unity, not uniformity, is what the Church seeks to achieve among her children. We are united in faith, but wonderfully diverse in rituals, ceremonies, languages, customs, and spirituality.

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
The Assumption refers to the Blessed Virgin Mary being assumed — body and soul — into heaven at the end of her earthly life. “Assumption” is different than “ascension” because one is passive (i.e. one is assumed) and the other is active (i.e. one ascends). It is by the power of God
Mary was assumed. On this day we recall Our Lady's being assumed into Heaven and crowned Queen. Masses on this Holy Day of Obligation will be at 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Mass on Thursday, August 15.
“Taken up into heaven, Mary shows us the way to God, the way to heaven, the way to life.”
—St. Pope John Paul II

Ed Wieczorek is the main celebrant). On Thursday the Assumption Mass will be at 7:00 p.m. with celebrant to be announced. HUNGER NEVER TAKES A SUMMER VACATION Catholic Charities launched its annual Summer Hunger campaign on June 8. This campaign responds to the economic hardships impacting many local families. Unfortunately, the need for food in our community grows greater each year. The Summer Hunger campaign provides food assistance to poor and working poor families with children during the summer months, when children are missing breakfast and/or lunch through free breakfast and lunch programs at school. This campaign will run through the end of August. More information about Summer Hunger, including ways to support this campaign with your prayers and financial support, can be found at www.ccdoy.org. Thank you for your generosity. FIRST ANNUAL PIG ROAST

In this busy day and age, there is a tendency for couples to lose touch with each other. Husbands and/or wives can get to the point where they don't think that they understand their spouse very well, or that their spouse understands them. This shortage of understanding leaves spouses feeling isolated and alone, vulnerable and anxious. On Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends, couples hear presentations, do exercises and reflections that help them to understand both themselves and their spouses better. A Fall Weekend is scheduled for October 11-13 in Solon at the Homewood Suites Hotel and space is limited. Please call 330-305-9963 or visit GreatMarriagesOhio.org to learn more.
