PRAYER BEFORE MASS
Eternal God, you call us back to yourself
through this holy season of Lent. Give us the
strength to ward off temptation and the
fortitude to avoid sin. Help us to be faithful to
you and worship and serve you alone. We ask
this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, forever and ever. -AMEN

Spirituality for today’s Catholic Christians
with John Ashely Noronha
There will be a mission presentation at all Masses this weekend. John Ashley are founders of
the Truth Beauty Project in Rome where young people come together for a month or more to
study the depths of our faith through various art forms; portrait, sculpture, architecture, etc.
Through this form they invariably arrive at a deeper appreciation of the faith. Fr. Bob made a
presentation to the group when he was in Rome a year ago. www.truthandbeautyproject.com.

Guidelines for Lenten Fast & Abstinence
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all
Catholics 14 years of age and older on Good Friday
and all the Fridays of Lent.
Fasting is to be observed by all Catholics who are 18
years of age but not yet 59 years of age on Good
Friday.
Those who are bound to fast may take only one full
meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to
maintain strength according to one's needs, but
eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.
Catholics should not lightly excuse themselves
from these prescribed Lenten penitential practices.

ASK THE PRIEST (answered by Fr. Donato)

Q: How does the Catholic Church relate to Christians
of other faiths?
A: Lumen Gentium, (Dogmatic Council on the Church)
states; the Church recognizes that in many ways she is
linked with those who, being baptized, are honored
with the name of Christian, though they do not profess
the faith in its entirety or do not preserve unity of
communion with the successor of Peter. For there are
many who honor Sacred Scripture, taking it as a norm
of belief and a pattern of life, and who show a sincere
zeal. They lovingly believe in God the Father and in
Christ, the Son of God and Savior. They’re consecrated
by baptism, in which they are united with Christ.
They also recognize and accept other sacraments
within their own Churches or ecclesiastical
communities. Many of them rejoice in the episcopate,
celebrate the Holy Eucharist and cultivate devotion
toward the Virgin Mother of God. They also share
with us in prayer and other spiritual benefits. We can
say that in some real way they are joined with us in
the Holy Spirit, for to them too He gives His gifts and
graces whereby He is operative among them with His
sanctifying power. Some indeed He has strengthened
to the extent of the shedding of their blood. In all of
Christ's disciples the Spirit arouses the desire to be
peacefully united, in the manner determined by
Christ, as one flock under one shepherd, and He
prompts them to pursue this end. Mother Church
never ceases to pray, hope and work that this may
come about. She exhorts her children to purification
and renewal so that the sign of Christ may shine
more brightly over the face of the earth.
We are currently at 53% of our parish goal of $77,500.00 amounting to
$41,028.00. Due to your ongoing generosity, we have regularly met and exceeded
our goal. Kindly remember that every gift is important no matter how small or
large. Keep in mind that 25 Seminarians in our diocese who are preparing for the
Priesthood are able to make their seminary studies because of your generosity, a
number of homeless people are assisted through Catholic Charities which is
funded through your giving and the Spanish and African Ministries in our
diocese are funded through Partners in Charity as well as 23 other services and
agencies. Thank you and God bless!
