Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

“The scribes and Pharisees have taken their seat on the

chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe whatsoever they

tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach

but they do not practice.” [Matthew 23: 2-3]

These Jewish leaders loved “places of honor at ban-

quets” and “seats of honor in synagogues” more than they

loved the “chair of Moses” that had actually been given

them. This means that they did not honor their responsibili-

ties for teaching the law of God and the ways of the cove-

nant. Clinging to their power and prestige, they refused to

be true teachers of the people. They refused to be true serv-

ants of God.

Remember what true stewardship includes? Prayer, hos-

pitality, faith formation, evangelization, and service. On

this Southern Cross Sunday in our Parish, we will peruse

the October 26 issue of our Official Newspaper of the Dio-

cese of Savannah to “teach the ways of the covenant,” to

engage in a faith formation exercise in service to the larger

Church to which we belong. Not only do we find sound

teaching here, but we find that larger reality of being

“Catholic” challenging us to follow Jesus into the life of

our Church. Please support this humble method of faith for-

mation by contributing your part ($15) in the Second Col-

lection today.

my own faith-formation? Do I read the scriptures or Catho-

lic, books, newspapers or periodicals? How often each

week?

Domingo Treinta y uno en el Tiempo Ordinario

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

“Los Escribas y Fariseos han tomado sus asientos en la silla

de Moisés. Por lo tanto, hagan y observen lo que ellos les di-

cen, pero no sigan su ejemplo. Porque ellos predican pero no

practican.” [Mateo 23: 2-3]

Estos líderes judíos aman “los lugares de honor en los

banquetes” y “sitios de honor en las sinagogas” más que lo

que ellos aman “la silla de Moisés” que actualmente se les

había dado a ellos. Esto significa que ellos no les daban tanto

honor a sus responsabilidades de enseñar la ley de Dios y las

maneras del compromiso. Aferrándose a su poder y prestigio,

ellos reusaban ser verdaderos maestros de la gente. Ellos

rehusaban ser verdaderos servientes de Dios.

¿Recuerdan lo que la verdadera corresponsabilidad in-

cluye? Oración, hospitalidad, formación de fe, evangelización

y servicio. En este Domingo del Southern Cross en nuestra

parroquia, examinaremos cuidadosamente el número del 26

de octubre de nuestro Periódico Oficial de la diócesis de Sa-

vannah para “enseñar las maneras del compromiso” para

embarcarnos en un ejercicio de formación de fe n servicio de

la Iglesia en general a la que pertenecemos. No solo encon-

tramos buena instrucción aquí, pero encontramos una reali-

dad más grande de ser “católicos” retándonos a seguir a Je-

sús en la vida de nuestra Iglesia. Por favor coopere con este

humilde método de formación de fe contribuyendo con su par-

te ($15) en la Segunda Colecta de hoy.

Preguntas de la semana: ¿Que hago para continuar mi pro-

pia formación de fe? ¿Leo las escrituras o periódicos, li-

bros, o publicaciones católicas? ¿Que tan a menudo ca-

Sunday is today, November 4-5, a month later than the diocese did it. Why? We were responding to the acute needs of the victims of the natural disasters with special

collections. So we postponed it for a month. The mini-mal cost of the subscription to the diocesan paper is $15. Some people chip in more to help those who can’t

(or won’t) support the diocesan paper. Please do your part today in the second collection. Checks are made out to the parish because the parish gets the bill for EVERYONE Registered.

Ushers are stepping up! We thank the young men from Youth Ministry who assisted last week as ushers.

As long as there is a Virtus-trained adult Usher pre-sent we can enjoy the teens ministry to us more often. Fr. Bob also is inviting women who would like to as-

sist with this ministry of hospitality and collections. Women Ushers are officially approved! Please check with Lee Tipps, our Usher Coordinator.
