MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK

Holy Father’s Prayer Intentions for July Universal: INDIGENEOUS PEOPLES That indigenous peoples, whose identity and very existence are threatened, will be shown due respect.

Evangelization: LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARRIBBEAN That the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean, by means of her mission to the continent, may announce the Gospel with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.

Editor’s Note: This week, the staff has selected one of Father Tom’s bulletin columns to repeat. This column appeared in the April 24, 2016 bulletin. Enjoy!

Peace and good! As we celebrate the Jubilee of Mercy, let us continue to pause to reflect upon God’s gift of mercy. What exactly is mercy? Pope Francis offers the following insights and reflections on the virtue of mercy.

Jesus' attitude is striking: we do not hear the words of scorn, we do not hear words of condemnation, but only words of love, of mercy, which are an invitation to conversation. "Neither do I condemn you; go, and do not sin again." Ah! Brothers and Sisters, God's face is the face of a merciful father who is always patient. Have you thought about God's patience, the patience He has with each one of us? That is His mercy. He always has patience, patience with us, He understands us, He waits for us, He does not tire of forgiving us if we are able to return to Him with a contrite heart. "Great is God's mercy," says the Psalm. (Angelus, March 17, 2013)

Together let us pray to the Virgin Mary that she helps us ... to walk in faith and charity, ever trusting in the Lord's mercy; He always awaits us, loves us, has pardoned us with His Blood and pardons us every time we go to Him to ask His forgiveness. Let us trust in His mercy! (Regina Caeli on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 7, 2013)

The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC:

A – Ask for His Mercy God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.

B – Be merciful God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us.

C – Completely trust in Jesus God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. (http://www.thedivinemercy.org)

May we have the courage to “Ask for His Mercy; Be merciful; and Completely trust in Jesus!”

The Parish staff wishes to thank the following parish ministries: We thank each of our parishioners who share in the celebration of our faith, sacramental life, and “works of mercy” in the community. Many blessings during the summer months! We thank the Parish/School Office, Facilities Staff, SJS Students and Friars for their participation in the parish recycling programs. Know that the parish community continues to study and review ways to embrace the care of creation. Many blessings!
