Reading with understanding Decoding = reading words accurately Comprehension = knowing what

words mean Inference = reading beyond the text

for implied meaning (e.g. ‘With tears dripping down her cheeks, Emma ran out of

the room…’)

So how was Emma feeling?

Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS)

Spelling lists will be given out every week to learn for the following week or they will be given some GPS activity.

Spellings will follow a weekly spelling pattern, differentiated for different groups.

Children will be expected to use the words from their list in some spelling sentences as directed in the homework task.

Daily spelling practice for a short while is more effective than ‘cramming’.
