From the Pastor
Greetings Fellow Children of God!
As I write this e-mail I am reflecting on the last 8 months of my time here
serving as your “Intentional Interim Pastor.” God has blessed each of us in so
many ways! Worshipping together every week with this congregation is so
spiritually fulfilling. YES GOD! YES GOD! God’s Spirit is ALIVE & WELL
in this place! The positive energy is felt among us due to God’s Love &
Grace & Blessings which are ABUNDANTLY shared with each other here and
beyond. God surely must be pleased by all the inspirational, educational and
missional happenings going on regularly in Christ’s name through YOU! The
fellowship that is taking place in each of these areas brings smiles and joy
filled hearts to so many people…including me!
It has been my great pleasure to participate in almost every area of mission
and ministry here at St. John’s. There is amazing leadership and staff who
serve here faithfully and support each other daily. Thank-you everyone for
going above and beyond responsibilities given to you that enable us to remain
a healthy and spiritually focused congregation, who live out our mission
statement “Saved by the Grace of God to Witness and to Serve Others.”
As you may know the “Transition Team” has been accomplishing such good
things with the help and input of information gathered from the Timeline and
Cottage Meetings. We have discussed the significant history that makes us
who we are today at St. John’s. Many people have shared their hopes and
dreams and visions for the outlook of this church. In the near future, the
Ministry Site Profile will be completed and the Call Committee will be formed;
the seeking of your newly “called” pastor will officially begin. This is a very
exciting time for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge, OHIO!
We all have great expectations for the next chapter of ministry among us. We
BELIEVE that God is with us, during these times of transition and change and

~ V.B.S. ~ The BRIGHTEST Week of the Summer! Come join our VBS friends ~ Decker, Tina, Bubba, Skyler, & Abbee
At Maker Fun Factory VBS, kids discover not only that God made them the
way they are, but for a purpose too. Maker Fun Factory is filled with incredible
Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sciency-Fun
Gizmos™, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few
of the standout activities that help faith flow into real life. (Since everything is
hands-on, kids might get a little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes
and safe shoes.) Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in
everyday life—something we call God Sightings.
Get ready to hear that phrase a lot!
Maker Fun Factory VBS will be June 19-23rd
from 9 a.m. to Noon Ages: Toddler (potty-trained) through 5th grade (entering 5th)
WE NEED YOU ON OUR CREW! Every summer during our annual VBS, we are able to witness to 100 toddlers
through fifth-graders, sharing the amazing love God has for them. None of this would be possible without the help of our talented crew.
There are so many different ways that we need volunteers. Please prayerfully consider helping this year!
If you have never helped before, you will be amazed at how often the crew gets as much out of VBS as the kids attending.
If you would like to help, have any questions, or need more information, please contact the VBS Director, Rachael Swartz, at 419-837-5115 or [email protected]

Reformation 500 Crawl
The Northwest Ohio Synod is putting together the Reformation 500
Crawl. This year marks the 500th year of the start of the Reformation.
Since this is the first and only time we will get to celebrate 500 years
of our Lutheran heritage, the Synod is initiating an “open house” for
many of the churches in our Area. The “crawl” will take place on July
29th and again on October 21st from 10:00am to 2:00pm. There are three churches
from our own North Central Conference: Solomon, Woodville-St John’s, Stony Ridge-
St John, Port Clinton, but there are many other churches and organizations taking part
in this event (even some Catholic churches).
If you are interested in helping with the Crawl contact David or Linda Polzin or contact
the church office.
There will be a tentative schedule of locations posted on the church bulletin board.
The final schedule is not yet published.
I’m sure Martin would approve.
MARTIN LUTHER: The Idea That Changed the
World
The year 2017 is the 500th anniversary of the start of the
Reformation. It was 500 years ago that Martin Luther nailed his
95 Theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg,
Germany.
As a tribute to the boldness and understanding that Luther had
of the scriptures, there will be a private screening of the movie “Martin Luther: The Idea
that Changed the World.” It is a docudrama that has actors using Luther’s own words
in the portrayals of his life with commentary from some of the most noted scholars of
our time.
The movie is very timely and it highlights the courage of Luther and troubles that that
he encountered.
Tickets are available in the Church office. There is no cost for the movie but we will be
taking a free will offering to help the Four Lutheran Agencies in Northwestern Ohio.
Tickets are on a “first come, first served” basis.
