DAILY MORNING PRAYER, Rite II

PreludePhilip Riley, our Organist and Choir Director, will play a selection of hymns on the piano as we gather virtually for worship.

Officiant: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:2

ConfessionofSin

The Officiant says to the people Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to set forth his praise, to hear his holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation. And so that we may prepare ourselves in heart and mind to worship him, let us keep silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.

Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; * serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song. Know this: The Lord himself is God; * he himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise; * give thanks to him and call upon his Name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; * and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

TheLessons

FirstReading:Jeremiah22:13–16

Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice; who makes his neighbours work for nothing, and does not give them their wages; who says, “I will build myself a spacious house with large upper rooms”, and who cuts out windows for it, panelling it with cedar, and painting it with vermilion. Are you a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? says the Lord.

Reader The word of the Lord. People ThanksbetoGod.

Canticle17:TheSongofSimeon Luke 2:29‑32

Lord, you now have set your servant free * to go in peace as you have promised; For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, * whom you have prepared for all the world to see: A Light to enlighten the nations, * and the glory of your people Israel.

GlorytotheFather,andtotheSon,andtotheHolySpirit:* asitwasinthebeginning,isnow,andwillbeforever.Amen

SecondReading:Galatians6:14–18

A reading from Paul’s Letter to the Galatians.

May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been cruci ied to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything; but a new creation is everything! As for those who will follow this rule-- peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From now on, let no one make trouble for me; for I carry the marks of Jesus branded on my body. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, broth-ers and sisters. Amen.

Reader: The word of the Lord. People: ThanksbetoGod.

Officiant: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew People: Glorytoyou,LordChrist.

Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, be-cause you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will ind rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Hymn405:“AllThingsBrightandBeautiful”

Refrain All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all. 1. Each little flower that opens,

Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings.

Refrain 4. He gave us eyes to see them,

And lips that we might tell, How great is God Almighty, Who has made all things well.

PrayerofSt.Chrysostom Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well‑beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen. Officiant: Let us bless the Lord People: Thanks be to God The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14

Hymn:“ThePrayerofSt.Francis” Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord, And where there’s doubt, true faith in you. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness only light, And where there’s sadness ever joy. O Master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved as to love with all my soul. Make me a channel of your peace, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, In giving to all men that we receive, And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
