As we approach the close of 2020, and the ushering of a new year, 2021, many seem skeptical, doubtful, un-certain of the unknown, even fearful of COVID-19’s plan for them. For some, there is the movement from a painful year of loss- loss of family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, relationships, employment, fa-miliar way of life, community, and dwelling place, to utter hopelessness among other debilitating feelings. Believe it or not, there is hope!

Faith can keep hope alive! I encourage each one of you, to draw life and meaning from the faith you received

in baptism. It is faith in God, only strong faith that can generate the power you need to step into 2021 with

confidence, knowing that whatever the year brings, you will not be crushed. It is your faith in God that will

facilitate your spiritual vision and enable you to see the hand of God in all the experiences of your life. Exer-

cise faith! Hold on to faith in God! Draw from the wellspring of your faith. Even when the going gets rough

and the answers to your prayers seem to delay, do not lose faith, remain fervent in prayer because God is

faithful to His promises and never abandons those who have faith in Him.

I pray that you may, with the help of the Holy Spirit, fan into a flame the gift of faith you received in baptism.

May your faith in God increase and sustain you throughout 2021 and beyond.

I pray for each one of you and your family, that you may remain open to unwrap in faith, the gift of each new

day and be joyful and thankful as the day unfolds, as willed by God.

I pray that daily, your hands will be open to receive the particular portion of grace, God will offer to you and

that you will be generous in sharing it with others.

I pray that you become a man, a woman, a child of faith who is filled with gratitude and that you give thanks

to God daily, for God’s unconditional love, extraordinary care, consistent providence, boundless mercy, faith-

ful companionship on life’s journey and giver of eternal life.

Trust in God at all times. Believe in God’s promise and love and never give up. Remember Jesus Christ,

Emmanuel, God-is-with-us. Yes, God is with you.

A medida que nos acercamos al cierre de 2020, y al comienzo de un nuevo año, 2021, muchos parecen es-cépticos, dudosos, inseguros de lo desconocido, incluso temerosos del plan de COVID-19 para ellos. Para algunos, existe el paso de un año doloroso de pérdida - pérdida de miembros de la familia, amigos, vecinos, compañeros de trabajo, relaciones, empleo, estilo de vida familiar, comunidad y lugar de residencia, a la desesperanza absoluta entre otros sentimientos debilitantes. Es su fe en Dios lo que facilitará su visión espiritual y le permitirá ver la mano de Dios en todas las experiencias de su vida. ¡Ejercita la fe! ¡Aférrate a la fe en Dios! Saca de la fuente de tu fe. Incluso cuando las cosas se pon-gan difíciles y las respuestas a sus oraciones parezcan demorarse, no pierda la fe, permanezca ferviente en la oración porque Dios es fiel a sus promesas y nunca abandona a quienes tienen fe en él.

First Reading — The Lord called Samuel, but he did not rec-ognize him. Samuel receives advice from Eli, who is already a prophet for the Lord. Following instructions from Eli, Samuel listens to the Lord. (1 Sm 3:3b-10,19)

Psalm — Here am I Lord; I come to do your will. (Ps 40)

Second Reading — The body is made for the Lord. With the price of the Cross, Jesus redeemed all humanity. The Holy Spirit dwells within each person. (1 Cor 6:13c-15a,17-20)

Gospel — It was John the Baptist’s purpose to point out Je-sus, the Messiah. Andrew and his companion followed Jesus. Andrew summons Peter. Jesus identifies Peter and gives him a new name. (Jn 1:35-42) New St. Joseph Sunday Missal
