A note for you:

How many of us have even really made a personal commitment to follow Jesus faithfully throughout all our life? Without that kind of sin-cere personal commitment a person is a Christian only in name but not in reality. Most of us were baptized when we were babies. We didn’t under-stand and could not make a personal commitment. Later we may have gone to catechism and made our First Confession and First Communion. After First Communion, when we were teenagers we were prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. During all this time, maybe a few of us made a serious personal com-mitment to follow Jesus faithfully. Many of us may not have make such a commitment. We went thru the preparation and received these sacraments because our parents told us to but without making a personal commitment to Jesus. Others didn’t even received their First Confession, First Communion or Confirmation. The result is that many of us became adults without having really committed ourselves personally to being true followers of Christ. We remain Christians in name only. As life goes on we may drift away or practice our religion out of habit rather than conviction. But to be true Christians we need to come to a time when we tell Jesus in one way or another: “I really accept you as my Lord and Savior and promise sincerely to follow you wherever you lead me no matter what it costs me.” Afterwards this personal commitment needs to be renewed continual-ly during our life because there are so many things that tempt us to change our minds. But the truth is that if we haven’t made that kind of personal commitment we really are not yet true Christians.

Una nota para ti: ¿Cuántos de nosotros hemos hecho un compromiso personal para seguir fielmente a Jesús durante toda nuestra vida? Sin ese tipo de compromiso personal sincero, una persona es cristiana solo en nom-bre pero no en realidad. La mayoría de nosotros fuimos bautizados cuando éramos bebés. No entendíamos ni pudimos hacer un compromiso personal. Más tarde, fuimos al catecismo e hicimos nuestra Primera Confesión y Primera Comunión. Después de la Primera Comunión, cuando éramos ado-lescentes, fuimos preparados para recibir el Sacramento de la Confir-mación. Durante todo este tiempo, quizás unos pocos hicimos un compromiso personal serio para seguir a Jesús fielmente. Muchos de nosotros quizá nunca hicimos esa clase de compromiso. Tuvimos la prepara-ción y recibimos estos sacramento porque nuestros padres nos lo mandaron pero sin hacer un compromiso personal con Cristo. Otros ni siquiera recibieron su Primera Confesión, Primera Comunión o Confirmación. El resultado es que muchos de nosotros nos hicimos adultos sin ha-bernos comprometido realmente a ser verdaderos seguidores de Cristo. Seguimos siendo cristianos solo por nombre. A medida que la vida avanza, nos alejamos o practicamos nuestra religión por costumbre y no por convicción. Pero para ser verdaderos cristianos tenemos que llegar a un momento cuando le decimos a Jesús de una manera u otra: "Realmente te acepto como mi Señor y Salvador y prometo sinceramente seguirte a donde sea que me lleves sin importar lo que me cueste". " Luego, este compromiso personal debe renovarse continuamente durante nuestra vida porque hay muchas cosas que nos tientan a cambiar de mente. Pero la verdad es que si no hicimos ese tipo de compromiso personal, realmente no somos todavía verdaderos cris-tianos.
