A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR’S DESKEveryone is gifted in one way or another. Some are children prodigy like Mozart or Gretzky and others discover their full potential in adolescence like Einstein. Still others are natural athletes, entertainers or domestics. My one aunt did not discover her wood carving abilities until she was seventy years old. Even those among us who feel cheated in giftedness…will discover they excel in something that others cannot. Somehow these unique talents are “gifts” because they make each person special and combined with the giftedness of others …make our existence balanced and beautiful. The Resurrected Lord passed from death to Life and sent us, the Church, His Spirit who empowers us with holy, unique Gifts that make us His disciples. In and of ourselves, we may be weak in avoiding evil but the Spirit gives us fortitude; we may be dull to the spiritual insights but the Spirit
gives us understanding; we may need direction and the Spirit gives us Counsel. The Holy Spirit, sent to us by Christ, gives us supernatural graces that help us to follow Him. They enable us to transcend the limitations of human reason and human nature and participate in the very life of God, as Christ promised (Jn14:23). This great feast of Pentecost marks the end of the Easter Season but the beginning of the Spirit’s endless involvement in us, His Church. May the Holy Spirit overshadow you with His countless Gifts. At today’s 11:30 a.m. Mass we will also share the Spirit’s joy as we celebrate the 60th Priesthood Anniversary and 90th Birthday of Rev. Edward J. Kaczorowski. Father is with us occasionally at liturgies and is one of our weekly confessors. Congratulations Father Ed. God reward your 60 years of service. Ad Multos Annos!

SCHOOL NEWS
Our Religious Education and Formation program (REF) teaches the fundamentals of the Roman Catholic Church. As Pope Francis states in The Joy of the Gospel, "The word of God constantly shows us how God challenges those who believe in him 'to go forth'" (Ch1, #20). Our goal is to inspire our students to embrace their call as missionary disciples and instill in them the courage to go forth in the world and live a moral, Christ-centered life.
Every encounter between catechists and their students helps to foster a deeper understanding of Christ and our faith. Religious Education and Formation is critical for those preparing to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Class time provides an opportunity to read, learn, and openly discuss the Bible and the Church’s teachings. Still, we need constant support and partnership with our families. Several programs are held throughout the year to gather as one faith community to learn about the Church and form our hearts as disciples together. All Parents/guardians/grandparents are invited to share their student's experience.
To learn more about our Religious Education and Formation programs, we are hosting an information session on Monday, June 11, at 6 p.m. in the school library. This meeting is for
families with children who are not currently enrolled in Catholic school and are looking to supplement their student's religious education and for preparation of Sacraments. We host a pre-k program for 4-year-olds and a kindergarten program and provide several learning settings for students in grades 1-8. For more information, please contact Mrs. Ballintyn via email at [email protected] or by phone at 302-994-7757. Thank you for considering our REF program for your family. We look forward to welcoming you and yours into our community of learners and disciples.
Religious Education and Formation Open House Monday, June 11, 6 p.m. in the school library.

Dear Friends,
I write this to let you know that I have requested and the Bishop has granted my retirement from active Diaconal ministry.
The normal retirement age for deacons is 75. However, the Bishop generally grants extensions on an individual year-to-year basis on request, which I have done the past three years. But as we all know, time moves on. Last month I turned 79, and I have discerned that now is the time for me to step down.
What does this mean? It means that I will no longer be serving in a sacramental role, i.e., assisting at Mass, preaching, baptisms, etc. However, it does not prevent me from remaining involved with RCIA, which I intend to continue.
To be able to serve the Church and St. John the Beloved Parish as a deacon the past 18 years has truly been one of the blessings of not only my life, but that of Merrie as well. We both look back on many graced moments we’ve experienced in this community. We value our association with St. John’s and its beautiful and committed people and look forward to ongoing opportunities to continue sharing our faith with others.
Yours in Christ, Deacon Tom
CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU, DEACON TOM !

2018 Annual Appeal Our target for this year’s Diocesan Appeal is $175,000 and we have, thus far, received $172,868.65 in pledges. Thank you very much from the Diocese and our parish. To those who have not made any pledge thus far, please consider doing so in order for our parish not to have to make up the short fall. When everyone makes a contribution, the goal becomes a reality.
The money collected from this Appeal assists the Diocese in charitable work toward education, outreach and social services within our Diocese. Again … thank you if you already made a pledge and are fulfilling it. Please consider so if you missed out.

INSPIRE Priest: Let us pray for priestly and religious vocations.
All: O God, we earnestly beseech Thee to bless the Church with many priests, brothers, and sisters, who will love Thee with their whole hearts, be faithful to their vocations, and gladly spend their entire lives to teach Thy truths, serve Thy Church, and to make Thee known and loved.
Priest: Bless our families, bless our children.
All: Choose from our homes those who are needed for Thy work.
Priest: O Mary, Queen of priestly and religious vocations:
All: Pray for us. Pray for our priests, seminarians, and religious. Obtain for us the grace of many more. Amen. (please offer your reception of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month for vocations.)
Prayer for Parents for Priestly and Religious Vocations: O God, grant that at least one of our sons may become a priest or religious brother, and one of our daughters a religious sister. We ourselves want to live as good Christians, and to guide our children always to do what is right, so that we may receive the grace, O God, to be allowed to give Thee a holy priest, brother, or sister! Amen. (Conclude with an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be.)
Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel: Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our
protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May
God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the
Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all
the evil spirits, who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of
souls.
Amen.
PARENTING POINTERS Pentecost refers to 50 days after Easter. It reminds us of fear, community, and bravery. The apostles were afraid after Jesus left them. They gathered together. The Spirit filled them with courage to speak out. Ask your family what helps them be brave? Can anyone identify a recent courageous act?
MARRIAGE MOMENTS Pentecost is a feast of fear, community, and bravery. Have you ever feared for the safety of your beloved? When? What helps you keep your marriage vows? Have you ever needed to defend your spouse to others? Stand up for each other's goodness.
