A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR’S DESKIn today’s Gospel, the seventy-two who had been sent out to proclaim the Kingdom return exuberant. You can feel their excitement in the reading. They had such wonderful experiences that they couldn’t wait to tell the Lord all about them. Everybody was talking at once. Jesus Himself joined right in, “I saw Satan falling like lightning from the sky.” Who were these seventy-two? We do not know even one of their names. And there is a reason for that. They are us. We are the seventy-two. We are the ones who have nursed on the Word of God and become strong. We are the ones who have become so strong that other’s experience the Word of God within us. The Kingdom is proclaimed. Evil is destroyed. The devil falls from the sky. The 5 p. m. Sunday Mass will be without music in July and August as a break for our music ministers for the summer. Full music will resume at that evening Mass in September.
GOSPEL MEDITATION— This Sunday, Jesus reminds us that "the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few." As Catholic disciples, we are the laborers that the Master is sending. All around us are opportunities to share the love and mercy of Jesus Christ - our homes, our workplaces, our neighborhoods, even our faith communities! Lest we feel unequipped for the task, Jesus gives us some advice. "Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals." We might not have a theology degree or training in public speaking, but that doesn't mean we can't share the Gospel. The power of God is at work in simplicity. The disciples went forth with nothing as a reminder to trust in the Providence of God. Say a little prayer that God will speak through you and has a need for your gifts, just as you are. "Do not move about from one house to another." So much of the life of Jesus was about relationships. He modeled this attitude by journeying with his disciples. Here he makes the same recommendation to them, to remain with the same family for their entire stay in the town. Break bread with others. Invite them to coffee or a game night in your home. Sharing your faith isn't just about saying the right thing, but loving well over time. "The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off." Sometimes we want to help someone, but for whatever reason, they don't receive it well. Sometimes people aren't interested in our efforts to invite them deeper into faith. When rejection happens, don't carry it with you. Don't let it over-burden your heart. Rejoice that you share in the mission of Christ, and keep on loving the next person he places in your path!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FORMATION
Our Vacation Bible School program traveled to Greece to learn Paul and his travels to share the good news of Jesus Christ with all the people. It was a wonderful and exciting adventure. They children sang with such joy and they made some awesome Grecian art. Our adventurers traveled as a house through the Marketplace, where they met Paul as he traveled through Greece. They also enjoyed delicious treats and participated in our Olympic games.
Our young travelers were accompanied by many friends who kept them sage through their travels.
Thank you to our merry band of travelers, our many helpers, and our music leader, Mrs. Papili. Thanks to all for making our VBS week one of much fun, excitement, and learning. Looking forward to another great trip next year,The Religious Education Office

GROWING WITH THE GOSPEL
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), will begin at St. John the Beloved on Monday September 9th at 7:00 PM. What is RCIA? It is the process of instruction and preparation by which a person becomes a full member of the Catholic Church, through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
Our Catholic faith is a treasure which takes a lifetime to fully appreciate. Yet for a variety of reasons many good people have turned away from the active practice of the faith in their daily lives. Some have bought into the secular message that the gospel is no longer relevant in a modern society. Or, others have lost a sense of God's presence in their lives.
KNOWING GOD IS EVERYTHING
In assisting past participants in the RCIA process we have seen firsthand how the deep longings of the human spirit cannot be satisfied only by what the world has to offer. Many of them recognized first and foremost a void in their lives that was not being filled. Other reasons they were drawn to RCIA include:
• A longing to become a part of a faith community • The desire for family members to be united in their faith and worship together • For parents of students in our school to become more familiar with the faith • For couples planning marriage to be able to share together in the Eucharist
Do you see yourself in any of these situations? Do you know someone who might benefit from RCIA; someone close to you, a friend, a spouse, a neighbor, or a fiancée? If your answer is yes, then you are invited to respond to this invitation. More information can be obtained simply by calling the parish office at 302-999-0211, or contact Deacon Tom Bailey at 302-559-6458, or email, [email protected].

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK . . . Jesus tells his disciples, "I am sending you like lambs among wolves." Getting people to see the truth about who they are is not always easy or welcomed. Some people want to believe that they have life under control and they do not need any further advice, direction, or challenge from others. Being heralds of the Gospel means doing precisely that. We come with a message that is not always welcome or desired by our sisters and brothers. Yet, it is desperately needed. People need to be reminded of who they are, who God is, and the necessity of repentance for entering the Kingdom of God. It is not about what we want but what God wants. We are called to be peacemakers and laborers for justice and mercy. Are you willing to bring this challenging message to those who may be indifferent or even hostile to hearing it?
"In whatever direction we go, [God] is there before us, calling to us and coming to meet us."
