SCHOOL NEWS
26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s parable, one son tells his father he will work and then does not. The other son tells his father he will not work, and then does. Jesus teaches that the son who had a change of heart, he did the right thing. All those who are “sinners” and change their mind, repent, and follow Him will share in the Kingdom of God.
This is a good time, being Respect Life Sunday, to recall the value of human life and the short amount of time, each one of us has, to do what is right. If we are on the wrong path, we still have some time to change for the good. Can we honestly claim a life is only valuable when it is wanted and acceptable? Can we continue tolerating the streets where innocent lives are randomly gunned down? Can we judge the worth of anyone by his/her status and productivity or by what we can gain with them? Can we allow society to dictate who is worth healing from those who are expendable?
These are mature questions that deserve serious attention. If we are initially weak in responding to these contemporary moral issues, like the second son in today’s parable, we can have a change of heart … while we still can.
Respect Life…it is the only one each one of us has!
October 4 is the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. He is considered one of the most favored saints. He is special to our parish because The Sisters of Saint Francis were instrumental in establishing our school, sixty years ago.
The Franciscan Spirit continues in our school and parish to this day. To celebrate his feast, in addition to the two morning Masses that day, there will be a School Mass at 9:15 a.m. Blessing of Animals will be at 2 p.m. and also at 6:30 p.m. near the church. Everyone is invited.

How to Receive Holy Communion The Church invites to Communion all who profess the Catholic faith and who are prepared and properly disposed, i.e. free of grave or mortal sin. While in line to receive Communion, the faithful are to prepare themselves spiritually by focusing on the fact that he/she is truly receiving the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus. The communicant keeps his/her hands folded. When the communicant is next in line to receive, he/she makes a slight bow and then comes forward. Hearing the words “The Body of Christ,” the communicant responds "Amen." to receive either on the tongue or in the hand.
To receive on the tongue, the communicant simply opens his/her mouth, extends the tongue slightly, without leaning in, and allows the Host on the tongue.
To receive in the hand, the communicant places the palm of the active hand under the palm that will receive the Host. Then, receiving the Host, in the palm, and afterward and with reverence, the communicant takes and places the Host in his/her mouth. And then move forward.
To show proper respect for the Eucharist, those of us who receive in the hand are to have clean hands and are never to reach for or grab for the Host. Receiving on the tongue or in the hand are both valid means of communing.
When the Precious Blood is offered, the communicant may also take the opportunity of receiving under both species. If he/she does, the communicant follows the same procedure as with the Sacred Host. When the communicant is next in line to receive, he/she makes a slight bow and then comes forward and receives the chalice after it is offered with the words “The Blood of Christ.” The communicant responds "Amen." Take the chalice without spilling and drink the Precious Blood. Swallow and move forward.
