THE

PEARLAnyone who wishes to meet calmly with these various different brothers who people our world must have a royal indifference to all that is not that naked essential faith that makes him lose his memory, his tastes, and his own personal originality. This faith that makes us banal with that massive banality which all the saints accepted and which led them to the ends of the world. For the price of poverty is exorbitant. It costs everything that is not the Kingdom of Heaven. So we will find those things interesting that anyone else is interested in, and we will find ourselves becoming virtuous through kinds of heroism that have never attracted us, and find ourselves becoming the brethren of people who are not like us at all.

Then those whom we meet on their journey will stretch out their hands avidly for the treasure that will pour from us; a treasure uncompromised by our earthenware vessels, our gaudy baskets, our trunks or baggage, a treasure that is simply divinity; a treasure that will be dressed in everybody’s fashion because it will have ceased to be dressed in our fashion. Then we will be pliable in God’s hands and will have become, in our turn, parables, parables of the unique pearl, small, round and precious to buy which you have to sell all.

Servant of God Madeleine Delbrel

Servant of God Madeleine Delbrel ( + 1964) was a French laywoman, writer, and

mystic devoted to caring for the poor and to evangelizing culture. Magnificat July

Dear Parishioners, I pray all is well in your families. This Friday after Holy Mass I will be leaving for vacation and will return on August 25. In my absence Fr. Casmir, Msgr. Lehocky and Msgr. ST.  JOHN  ORGANISTWe are all very grateful for the dedicated and professional work Cecilia England has offered to our parish for the Sacred Liturgies over the years. Cecilia will begin pulling back on her time at St. John’s and we want to thank her for all she has done for us.  We are wondering if there are any organists registered in our Parish who might want to assist with the music for the Masses? If you are interested please call the parish office at 828-859-9574 and leave your name and contact information. Thank you.

PARKING  Thank you for your care to park first in our parking lots and on the grassy area by the office driveway and in the driveway. Please continue to make sure that cars are parked off the street so as to allow easy travel for our neighbors and emergency vehicles. Also, please do not park on Hillside Court so our neighbors have easy access to their homes. — With gratitude and prayer, Fr. Arnsparger

WOMEN’S  GROUPThe Bible and the Sacraments -   Journey through Scripture, featuring author and speaker Matt Leonard from the St. Paul Center.  Through this series we will better understand that the Sacraments are more than just an outward sign but that they are a Divine Power that flows from the Body of Christ.  Christ touches us and we touch Him. Our first session will be on Tuesday, August 29th at 6:30pm in the parish center.

CCC1116: Sacraments are “powers that come forth” from the Body of Christ, which is ever-living and life-giving. They are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in His Body, the Church.  They are “the masterworks of God” in the new and everlasting.
