ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE PARISH HALL KITCHEN -- READY FOR REFURBISHING! Dear Parishioners of St. John the Apostle, The time has come for our 50+ year old parish hall kitchen to get a badly needed facelift! Father Rosenbaum and the Finance Council have approved and will fund the majority of the cost of this project. The project timeline is 6 weeks beginning in June, 2020. We’re looking forward to repairing and updating this space for all of our members to use and enjoy, and we would appreciate your support for this project benefitting our church community. The Kitchen Project committee is asking for your donations to cover the cost of the new appliances. Donations in any amount are welcome. JOLIET, IL-- Bishop Richard Pates, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Joliet, announced today that the 52 Catholic schools in the diocese will open this Fall.
The bishop has appointed a task force headed by Fr. Burke Masters to prepare the schools so that each will fully comply with necessary provisions to make the particular school safe in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
“The stakeholders of our schools – parents and children, administrators and teachers, priests and parishioners – very much desire to see our schools fully functioning this Fall,” Bishop Pates said.
He also noted that the re-opening of diocesan parishes has gone very well, with the vast
majority of parishes now celebrating Mass again. In order to open, each of the parishes had to be certified that certain, defined safety measures were in place. A similar certification process will be developed for our schools.
PLEASE NOTE
There will be no 8:00 AM Mass on Saturday, July 4th Instead there will be a:
9:00 AM Mass at

DID Y0U KNOW
St. Peter was Jesus’ leading disciple, traditionally regarded as the first pope. The synoptic Gospels indicate that Simon was the first disciple chosen by Jesus, on which occasion Jesus either gave him a new symbolic name (Cephas, or Peter, “rock”” Matt 16:18) or designated him as “fisher of men” (Mark 1:17; Luke 5:10).Respect and authority reside for the ancients in the first of a line, firstborn or first chosen. Peter was a fisherman from the village of Capernaum, son of Jonah (Matt 16:17) and brother of Andrew. He worked his father’s trade, possibly in a consortium with Zebedee and sons. He was married (Mark 1:30) and apparently traveled with his wife (1Cor 9:5). Acts 4:13 records a public verdict that he was an “uneducated common man.” Only in Matthew is Peter formally designated “rock” of the new church, given keys of authority to admit or exclude, and promised that his role in the group would survive death (16:18-19).
