Our Faith...Our Future Centennial Celebration

Saint Paul Parish 1916-2016

Rev. John Morrissey Msgr. Russell H. Davis

In 1959, the new pastor, Rev. John Morrissey, acquired a former residence on Washington St. to serve as a permanent

convent for the sisters.

In 1968, when Msgr. Russel H. Davis was appointed pastor, the number of families registered was 850. Msgr. Davis

brought to St. Paul Parish a magnificent talent for music. As professor of music at St. John Seminary he influenced

generations of seminarians destined to bring music to parishes throughout the Archdiocese. At St. Paul Church, he instituted

the new liturgical changes, installed a new pipe organ of the highest quality and established a “Schola Cantorum”, a music

school for men and boys. In 1978, Msgr. Davis led the Archdiocesan Choir to assist at the Pontifical Mass on Boston Common on the occasion of Pope John Paul’s visit to Boston. He retired in June 1989.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered and cooked for our amazing St. Paul Parish BBQ last weekend. It was wonderful to see so many parishioners laughing together and to welcome Fr. Jim to our parish. Special thanks to Girl Scout Troop #73848 for providing fun crafts and activities, Boy Scout Troop #185 for set up, and to the Youth Group and Men’s Group for providing information tables on these important parish activities. Winners of the Bake-Off are listed below. See you next year!

“Could you not watch one hour with Me?”

Fall of last year my mom and grandma told me that I was signed up to come on this trip. Honestly, I was a little angry. I had no desire to come on a church trip with a bunch of kids that I did not know. I barely even knew that Hail Mary prayer. I met with Luke, Jimmy, and Mrs. Mears and told them how skeptical I was of going. They told me that if I came they were 100% sure I would thank them at the end of it. On the second to last day of the trip, I thanked them all. I never knew that I could catch up on my faith so quickly. During adoration at the Mercy Center Arena I closed my eyes and thanked God for bringing me to Poland. I later ask God for a sign to show me why he brought me here. I received that sign in Bolonia Park when the world Youth Day song was playing and everyone was waving flags and singing along in their own language. A million people in one space all singing the same song. Similarly, during the vigil with the Pope, everyone was given candles to light. To watch 2.5 million people kneel in silence all holding candles, all thinking about the same thing was truly an amazing experience. This pilgrimage has brought me, a girl who went to church about once every two months, into a person filled with faith and ready to share it with the world and to continue to bettering myself. I will never forget these two weeks that completely changed my life.
