What does it mean to be an “Active Catholic?” Frequently, those seeking to celebrate Marriage, have their children baptized, or serve as sponsors for Confirmation or Baptism request a letter stating that they are parishioners. To receive such a letter, one must be registered in the parish, attend Mass regularly, and be committed to stewardship of time, talent and treasure. In any parish community, one means of verifying participation is through the use of parish offertory envelopes. If you choose not to participate in the support of the parish, or are unable to contribute at this time, please at least note your prayerful support on your envelope and place it in the weekly offertory. We will then be aware of your continued participation, and you will not be noted as “inactive” on our parish roster.

RCIA News Next Sunday our two catechumens, Alex and Elizabeth Wiemer, will celebrate the Rite of Election with Bishop DiLorenzo at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. At this Rite, the Church formally chooses them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion) at the Easter Vigil. From this point forward they will be known as “The Elect.” The Rite of Sending, at which our parish will express its approval of Alex and Elizabeth and send them forth to the Bishop, will be celebrated at the 11:00 Mass next Sunday. Please keep Alex and Elizabeth in your prayers throughout this season of Lent.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process through which adults and unbaptized older children enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.

Nocturnal Adoration And Commemoration Don’t forget…the hours for Eucharistic Adoration have changed. Adoration will begin at the normal time with Vespers and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 7:00 pm. on the first Friday of the month (during lent it will follow Stations of the Cross). Adoration will end with the Rosary, beginning at 9:30 pm on Friday, followed by Benediction and Repose of the Blessed Sacrament at 10:00 pm. We are hopeful the revised schedule will reinforce the communal aspect of Eucharistic Adoration, especially at our Vespers prayer service at which we prayerfully remember the faithful departed whose anniversary of death occurs during the month. If your deceased loved one is interred in the Columbarium, they will automatically be among those for whom we pray. If you would like to include others on this prayer list please contact Deacon Jim Tubbs, 598-3754.

Annual Diocesan Appeal Welcome to the 2017 Annual Diocesan Appeal – Building Our Family of Faith. The nineteen ministries and programs funded by this year’s Appeal are truly representative of the mission entrusted to us as Catholic Christians. The Appeal is not only an opportunity to raise funds for important ministries. It also helps us remember and reflect that every Catholic is part of a local Church and of the Universal Church. Each of us is responsible not only for his or her parish, but also for the well-being of the Church throughout the Diocese and throughout the world. Since we are one community of believers, members of all parish communities throughout the Diocese of Richmond are asked to give to this effort. As we continue to grow every day with a deeper sense of commitment to God and to each other, it is my sincere hope that you will join us in living the theme of Building Our Family of Faith by supporting the 2017 Annual Diocesan Appeal. Sincerely yours in Our Lord, Most Rev. Francis X. DiLorenzo
