The Pastor Jots It Down…
My dear parishioners of St. John Bosco,
Greetings to one and all as we celebrate Mother’s Day giving thanks and praise to
Almighty God for the gift of our mothers…our mothers who gave us birth and have sustained
and nourished us throughout our lives.
Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers, grandmothers, Godmothers and all those who
have exercised a motherly influence in our lives. May God ever bless them and reward them
for their efforts and sacrificial love for us.
Today, we can also reflect upon Holy Mother Church, who gave birth to us in Baptism
and continues to assist us throughout our lives with the sacraments which nourish and sustain
us. The sacraments, part of the Church’s liturgy, are signs of God’s love which give us grace
and assist us in giving praise and worship to God which is due Him.
The liturgy is the Church’s divine worship and its public prayer consisting of the seven
sacraments and the Liturgy of the Hours (Divine Office). Of their very nature they benefit us
and deepen our love for God, if we celebrate them with the proper dispositions.
During this pandemic when we can’t safely gather in Church, there is the possibility of
joining in the Church’s Liturgy of the Hours. One resource is Divine Office.com (https://
divineoffice.org/welco of the me/ ) which gives both the text of the office as well as an audio
accompaniment. Anther resource is the iBreviary, an app that can be used on your cell phone
or iPad. This iBreviary also includes the Roman Missal with the Mass Prayers and Readings.
Recently we began offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation twice a week by drive
through, Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm-7:30pm and Sundays 10am-Noon at both church-
es; St. Rosalie by the day chapel doors and St. John Bosco at the main doors of the Church.
The end times are not hard and fast. Priests will continue to hear confessions past that time if
there are people waiting to go. This practice will be constantly evaluated, and changes made as
needed.
Since we are unable to attend the Liturgy
of the Mass due to the restrictions and directives
of both our Governor and Archbishop, we can
safely partake of the Sacrament of Reconcilia-
tion which by its very nature as liturgy blesses
us with God’s love and forgiveness as well as
expressing our praise for God.
Maybe now, God is asking us to reap the
benefits of more frequent reception of the Sacra-
ment of Reconciliation and thus renew ourselves
and the holiness of the Church.
God love you!

Message from Fr. Mark ~ I am happy to present to you our parish financial report for the 1st nine months of this fiscal year. At first glance, it appeals to be quite healthy with a surplus as of now of $197,404.20. If you take away the one-time exceptional income from the sale of the resi-dence of $166,500, that leaves us with a surplus of only $30, 907.20. Now add to that the effects of the Covid 19 pandem-ic on our parish offertory. That leaves us with a picture that is not so rosy. As you can see even during the beginning of the pandemic in March, our income surpassed that of the previous year. This made me very happy! Increased giving/tithing was beginning to take hold in our parish. This trend would allow us to expand ministerial out-reach and do necessary maintenance that has been placed on hold. Then came April of 2020; our offertory fell some $8,000 short of the offertory of 2019. Looking ahead, it seems that we would have to do three things: Greater outreach to expand our parishioner base…
every parishioner must be an evangelizer Increased giving on the part of all parishioners Continue to seek ways of reducing expenses and
examine possible budgetary cuts. I am very grateful for those who been able to contin-ue parish support these days. A special shout out to those who are able and have increased their giving these days to help compensate for those who are unable to give.
God bless you! Stay safe!
