1ST SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 1, 2019

WELCOME VISITORS We are happy to have you join us today and every Sunday. You enrich our Masses by your presence

and your participation. We hope that you find our liturgies here to be an inspiring celebration of our faith. Please come back again…and often.

FROM FR. CONNEALY

Happy Sunday! Today the Church begins her new year! In anticipation of the great celebration of Christmas, we begin to prepare ourselves through prayer, especially liturgical prayer. The readings that we hear during this season, not only on Sunday but during the week, remind us of the great expectation of the people of Israel for their Savior. In this Sunday’s first reading from Isaiah we hear, “In days to come, the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest mountain and raised above the hills. All nations shall stream toward it…” That is, God will establish among his people something special which will draw all the nations towards it. This mountain is Zion, a foreshadowing of eternal life in heaven. Our passage continues to say, “For from Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” The instruction that goes forth will be the teaching of Jesus Christ. God himself will come to us and He will teach us. No longer will the people of Israel look at their prophets for God’s words because God Himself will teach them. With these reflections we begin our anticipation of the Christmas feast. This can be an excellent time to refocus ourselves on Jesus. Maybe this is through the daily praying of the rosary or praying with the readings from daily Mass. Practices of prayer that help us to look towards the life of Christ and understand it more deeply can be a great way to grow in union with Jesus. It can be especially fruitful to look at the Old Testament and grow in our knowledge of the people of Israel hoped for in their Messiah. This is much of the aim of the liturgical readings during Advent. I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and restful time with family, friends, and loved ones. Know of my continued prayers for you all. In Christ, Fr. Connealy

FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION… We have Adoration in the Chapel every

First Friday of the Month from 9:00am (after the 8:30am Mass) until

6:00pm, ending with Benediction. The next service will be Friday, DECEMBER 6.

DID YOU KNOW … By Fr. Cruz In Advent there is a special Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary called The Rorate Caeli Mass. The name is from the Introit which reads: "Drop down dew from above, you heavens, and let the clouds rain the Just One; let the earth be opened and bud forth a Savior" and the Latin Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant justum, aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem. It is traditionally candlelight in darkness that prepares the faithful to invite the Light of the World soon to be born and give praise God for the gift of our Blessed Mother. (Now you do!!!)

MASS 101...

“The Eucharist is the full realization of the worship which humanity owes to God, and it cannot be

compared to any other religious experience.... The risen Lord ... calls the faithful together to give them the light of His Word and the nourishment of His Body as the perennial sacramental wellspring of redemption. The

grace flowing from this wellspring renews mankind, life, and history.” Saint Pope John Paul II

LEGION OF MARY... Beginning Friday, November 29, the Legion of Mary will conduct a 9-day

“Immaculate Conception, Mary, my Mother. Live in me. Act in me. Speak in and through me. Think your thoughts in my mind. Love, through my heart. Give me your dispositions and feelings. Teach, lead and guide me to Jesus. Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behavior. Possess my soul. Take

over my entire personality and life. Replace it with yourself. Incline me to constant adoration and

thanksgiving. Pray in me and through me. Let me live in you and keep me in this union always. “

by Pope John Paul II

The Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens

Those who have inquired into the Catholic way of life will publicly declare their intention to follow Christ and become members of his Church. The Church in turn, represented by the community of St. Joan of Arc, will accept them as her members who are preparing for baptism. They will become “catechumens,” a word that means “one in whom the Word of God echoes.” They have responded to God’s call, and desire to enter into a formal relationship with Christ through the Church. The community of St. Joan of Arc will pledge its support throughout their journey of faith. Let us pray for Jarred Sola and Eric Lambert as they prepare to take this step! There will be a light reception in Santa Maria Hall im-mediately after the 10:30AM Mass to welcome our new catechumens into the community of St. Joan of Arc. The Knights of Columbus will provide hospitality with donuts and coffee – are encouraged to stop by!

1º DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO 1 DE DECIEMBRE DE 2019

A enriquecer nuestras
