R.C.I.A — Penance and Anointing of the Sick
Penance The current law of the Church states that a person who is
conscious of grave sin is not to receive the body of the Lord
without previous sacramental confession unless there is a
grave reason and there is no opportunity to confess (Canon
916). But we celebrate Reconciliation not merely because
we have to, but because it is a sacrament, a sign and
celebration of God showing forth his mercy "by reconciling
the world to himself in Christ and by making peace for all
things on earth and in heaven by the blood of Christ on the
cross.”
Anointing of the Sick Anointing "is not a sacrament for those only who are at the
point of death" but is intended for all those who are
seriously ill. Consequently, what we formerly called
"Extreme Unction" is now more properly called "The
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick". We now think of
this sacrament in a different way: it is a community
celebration, sickness involves more than bodily illness, and
anointing heals us through faith.

Update on our seminarian, Kyle Nesrsta
It is important for us at St. Jerome to continue to pray for our Seminarian, Kyle Nesrsta, as he continues his journey to the
Priesthood. Kyle has been busy in this sixth year of his studies (Third Year of Theology) and has one more year to go be-
fore ordination as a Priest. Along with his studies he is also doing prison ministry near Rosharon (south of Houston) which
has been very inspirational for him to witness the prisoners accepting Christ into their lives. The experiences in this minis-
try will forever be a part of him, helping to shape him into the type of Priest who can shepherd a parish. Kyle is on track to
be ordained to the Diaconate (toward Priesthood) on May 18th at St. William’s Church in Round Rock. His ordination to
the Priesthood will be in June of 2020. Thank you for your prayers and support of Kyle.
