    FOR LENT. FOR LIFE.

CARBON FOOTPRINT We all have a carbon footprint and contribute – per-

haps unknowingly – to an unsustainable use of en-

ergy. A quick search on the internet will reveal several

carbon footprint calculators. Choose one and find your in-

    dividual and household footprint.

Fasting challenge: Do a serious assessment of

your daily routine. Where is your carbon footprint most

apparent? Are you able to walk or bike instead of drive?

How many lights do you turn on to light a single

room? How much energy goes into producing the food

you eat? How might simplifying your life conserve ener-

    gy?

    ST. HELEN FESTIVAL IS

JUNE 10-12 The St. Helen Festival Nacho and Pretzel

Booth is a popular place for a quick snack.

Many of our school's 7th and 8th graders help at this

booth. We're looking for a co-chair to assist Clive Benja-

min. He's experienced and happy to teach you the ropes. If

you want to learn more about this position or other co-

chair positions previously advertised in the church bulle-

tin, contact Jackie Skiple at 430-0642. We need everyone's

help to make this event a success.

    SAVE THE DATE FOR OUR

    3RD ANNUAL

SPRING CHICKEN DINNER St Helen seniors 80 and better, please mark your calendars! The 3rd annual Spring Chicken dinner will be

held in the Smith Building on May 13th at 6 PM! We

hope to see you all there!!

    SENIOR DINNER PLANNING

(SPRING CHICKEN DINNER) Please join us as we begin planning this year’s

Senior Dinner! We will meet on April 13 at 6 pm, in the

St. Julie Center downstairs community room. This dinner

is a wonderful time of fellowship for our parishioners 80+

years young. If you would like to help us plan this dinner,

please make plans to attend the March 8th meeting.

If you are not able to attend the meeting on

March 8th, but would like to help out, please call the

rectory at 254-6233 or Health & Wellness Ministry co-

ordinator Ann Huber, at (937)903-2186 and leave your

contact information. Ann will return you call the first

    week of March.

    FAIR TRADE SALE TODAY

DURING COFFEE AND DONUTS Doesn't a cup of Love Buzz, Mind, Body and Soul,

or Toffee Caramel coffee sound delicious? How about

enjoying some hot Irish Breakfast or Vanilla Rooibos tea

with a Dark Chocolate Almond Chocolate bar for a

snack? These are just a few of the many products available

for purchase at the Fair Trade table during coffee and do-

nuts. Please stop by and see what is available! All the

products sold help small scale farmers and are sustainably

    produced.

HUNGER SOLIDARITY CHALLENGE Imagine you have only $4 a day for food – the na-

tional average “food stamp” benefit! Weavers of Justice,

the social justice collaborative of Dayton-area parishes,

encourages you to participate in a Hunger Solidarity Chal-

lenge any week in Lent. This effort helps to raise aware-

ness of the challenges people on low incomes face as they

struggle to avoid hunger, eat nutritious foods, and stay

healthy with limited resources, Please include in your

“allowance” all food purchased and eaten during the week

($28 per person). This includes dining out, food given to

you, or food you already have at home. An additional way

to stand in solidarity with the region’s low-income resi-

dents is to walk to neighborhood places that sell food, such

as drug stores, dollar-type stores and gas stations. Stand in

solidarity with those who are hungry throughout the Arch-

diocese of Cincinnati! Donate the money you save to CRS

Rice Bowl, your church’s hunger program or food pantry,

or the Dayton Foodbank. For more information contact the

Catholic Social Action Office, 937-224-3026 ext. 5018 or

  • FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

  • ST. HELEN CHURCH

    RIVERSIDE, OHIO MARCH 6, 2016

St. Joseph’s Table On March 19, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary. St. Joseph

dedicated his life to the care of the Blessed Virgin and Jesus. To honor him, there is a

classic Catholic tradition we know as St. Joseph’s Table where food is set aside for

    the poor.

In honor of St. Joseph, you are invited to bring a non-perishable food item to Mass on

the Weekend after his Solemnity, March 19-20. This year’s collection will benefit the

“Feed the Spirit” ministry. This ministry provides specific items used to feed hungry

children in the surrounding communities of Riverside, Dayton and Beavercreek.

So this Lent, as part of your almsgiving, please consider St. Joseph and the Feed the

Spirit ministry’s work with hungry children in our community and bring a donation

on March 19 or 20. You may also place your donation by the statue of St. Joseph in

the Holy Family Chapel anytime during the week prior to the Feast Day and the

    Mass.

Here are some of the needed items:

-Breakfast foods in individual bags or containers

(oatmeal, cream of wheat, breakfast bars, pop

    tarts, cereal cups).

    - Individual packs of snacks (raisins, crackers,

    pretzels, goldfish).

    - Fruit or Vegetable individual cans (pop top) or

    cups (easy open) or applesauce.

    - Shelf stable white milk in single serve (small)

    cartons.

    - Easy open individual meals (must have pop

top if a can) i.e. pasta meals in cups, mac-

ncheese in cups, cup-o-soup, any soup can with

pop top, ramen in cups, and small jars of peanut

    butter.
