President’s Message—Tom Nampel I hope everyone had a good Holiday Sea- son. I have some great news. At our Christmas party it was brought to our at- tention that the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club is the largest family snowmobile club in the world! Don Schulpius, the first presi- dent of the Bo-Boens and Russ Davis did the research on this. Thank you Don and Russ for all of the work you did on this. As of right now we have 1,055 members. We are hoping to have over 1,100 members by the end of the season. Now that the season is underway just a few reminders. Please stay on the marked trails, have your trail passes and obey the signs. Where it is marked no snowmobiling that’s what it means. We work hard all year to keep the trails we have so please help. Stop signs mean stop. Follow the speed limits. Our annual Snowmobilers Breakfast is January 13th at Knockers Pizza Co. Inc. I hope to see a lot of snowmobilers there. Have safe and enjoyable season. Tom Nampel Snowmobile Safety Education Class December 27 & 28 Beginning January 1, 2001, any person born on or after January 1, 1985 and who has reached the age of 12, must have completed and received a snowmobile safety certificate in order to operate a snowmobile in Wisconsin. The certificate must be carried while operating the snowmobile, and displayed to a law en- forcement officer upon demand. Snowmobile Safety Education Classes are offered in the fall and early winter, and should start appearing on the DNR’s web site within the next month or so. Volunteers Needed

While many of you signed up to volunteer at the December meeting, there is still room to sign up to help with the clubs two biggest winter functions, the Radar Run and the Groomer Show. On February 2nd and 3rd we serve food at the Radar Run and handling parking and crowd control. We will need about 20 volunteers each day. The shifts are normally 3 to 4 hours and are a great way to meet other club members. The food service tent is heated. If you are interested and can help out sign up at the January meeting or contact the following members: Parking and Crowd Control – contact Ozzie Ausloos at 920-420-4520 or Don Baumann at 715-891-2707 Food Service Tent – contact Steve Soltwedel at 262-949-8930 or Dianne Dieter at 715-542-2913 On February 7th and 8th we will be serving food at the Walker Enterprises Groomer Show. The food service is inside and heated. Sign-up sheets will be available at the January meeting or you can contact: Steve Soltwedel at 262-949-8930 Jim Wendt at 715-891-1610.

Be sure the lake is marked

before you ride across!

Trail Boss—Jim Wendt Riding season is finally here!!!!! After the 10 inches of snow we received, trails have opened and our equip-ment has begun grooming operations. We are going to be busy training our 4 new drivers and getting the feel of our new T6175 New Holland tractor that we took ownership of the end of November. Our trail system has been inspected by both Vilas and Oneida counties and received sterling reviews for hav-ing the highest level of trail signage in the area. A huge “thank you” to our sign master, Steve Soltwedel and his trusted assistant, Ozzie Ausloos. This duo makes my job a lot easier as I have the utmost confidence our trail system is as safe as possible. I hope you have all taken the time to get your trail passes before you begin riding. The local sheriffs have indicated they will not be very tolerant of folks riding without a valid trail pass. The fine for lack of a valid trail pass has been increased to $295.00, a very costly ride when a $10.00 trail pass could have been pur-

chased by club members. Please take a moment to thank any of your groomer drivers for the great work they do on our trails! The success of our club is a direct result of the dedication this group of men posses and the level of competence they demonstrate each and every time they are behind the wheel of our equip-ment. I am so proud to work alongside such a talented group of men. I wish you all the best for an enjoyable riding season. HAPPY TRAILS, Jim

ONE MANS TRASH..

As part of the group that decorates a groomer for the Christmas parade, I am asking for your help. As you look at your

Christmas decorations, think about those decorations that you no longer

use. How about donating them to us. We are looking for lights, an artificial tree or two (tall & short), garland, lighted

yard decorations, etc. If you can help us please call Kay Schultz at 715-542-3912. Thanks!

Secretary’s Report—Kay Schultz It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . . . . We had some snow on the ground but now we really have snow on the ground. It is starting to leave up now but my best guess is that we have gotten around 6” of new snow. This is what our groomers need to get out there and start getting our trails ready for the season – so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. At our annual Christmas party / December membership meeting at Whitetail. What a great time! We had 118 peo-ple attend and our special guest was Don Schulpius, the first president and founder of the St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmo-bile Club. Don announced big news for our club. Not only are we the largest snowmobile club in Wisconsin, with well over 1,000 members, we are the largest family club in the United States. Now brace yourself, we are also the largest family club in the WORLD! I’m thinking that’s quite a feather in our cap. As for the dinner, I would like to thank Jeff and Joy for the beautiful atmosphere and the wonderful food that they provided for us. Everything was outstanding – as usual. Also, a big thank you to Jeff Calhoun of Tomahawk Sport Center for providing dinner music for the evening. Hope to see all of you soon—and keep the snow dances going. I won’t be happy until I see a year when we have to tunnel out of the house instead of just shoveling. Kay Schultz

Apple Dumpling Gang and Boo-BBB’s

The Apple Dumpling Gang is a group of Bo-Boen men who for many years have held weekly snowmobile rides, weather permit-ting. There are no dues or requirements, just show up at the groomer barn on Wednesdays by 9 am ready to ride and have some fun. The Bo-Boen ladies also ride each week under the name BOO-BBB’s and leave the groomer barn at the same time. It is a great way to make friends and meet other fellow snowmobilers. New riders should call Bob Schell at (715) 542-2321 or Penny McCor-mick at (715) 542-2537.
