MOVIE NIGHT: A TIME FOR MIRACLES

FRI, JAN 17, 7PM—PARISH HALL

This 1980 biographical drama tells the true story

of Elizabeth Bayley Seton, the first American-

born saint. She converted to Catholicism

following the death of her husband, after his

shipping business went bankrupt. Seton

established the first Catholic girls’ school in the

nation and

founded the

first American

congregation

of religious

sisters, the

Sisters of

Charity.

It will inspire

you to visit

the beautiful

shrine built in

her honor in

Emmitsburg,

Maryland,

where

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is buried today.

GENTLY USED SHOES HERE

AT SFX IN THE VESTIBULE!

Help the FAW Destination

Imagination teams to raise

money for their competitions

by donating your gently worn (or new),

unwanted shoes. Shoes of all kinds and sizes are

welcome—must be intact and have shoelaces (if

needed). Shoes are then taken to be distributed

to those in need and FAW gets a monetary

donation of $1,000 if we collect 100 bags of 25

shoes! Please consider donating your shoes today

by dropping them in the box in the church

vestibule between now and Jan 31. Thank you!

Helping our Neighbors:

During the last week of school before Christmas,

the FAW Crusaders Care group held a baked

goods and hot cocoa sale that raised $200 for

Project WARM (Wrapping Arms ‘Round Many).

Over our Christmas break, many FAW families

volunteered their time to serve the homeless

guests in the WARM Program: making and

serving dinner, cleaning up, singing carols,

playing cards. Some volunteers stayed awake all

night, serving as monitors. The guests were

served a nice breakfast in the morning and each

were given the gifts donated by the FAW

families.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

For the greater glory of God...

Dear Parish Family,

Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of

the Baptism of Our Lord. This brings us to the

end of the Christmas season. The Baptism of the

Lord recalls Our Lord’s second manifestation or

epiphany, which occurred on the occasion of

His baptism in the Jordan River. Keeping in

mind that Jesus is free of all sin and that He did

not need to be baptized, we know that He did it

as a model for us.

When Jesus was baptized the heavens opened,

the Holy Spirit descended as a dove, and the

voice of the Father said: “This is my beloved

Son.” In this one event, we see that the three

Persons of the Blessed Trinity are made

explicitly present. This is why we consider

Christ’s Baptism to be another epiphany, as it

reveals the three Persons of the Blessed Trinity:

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Many of the things that took place at Christ’s

baptism are symbolic of what happened at our

own Baptism. At Christ’s baptism the Holy

Spirit descended upon Him; at our Baptism the

Trinity made its dwelling place in our soul.

At His baptism Christ was proclaimed the

“Beloved Son” of the Father; at our Baptism we

become the adopted and beloved sons and

daughters of the Most

High God. At Christ’s

baptism the heavens were

opened; at our baptism

heaven was opened to us.

Faithfully in Christ,

Father Rob
