Choose Mercy and Compassion What’s on YOUR Wish List?
Do you have a ‘wish list’ of things you
hope you can do or own or see during your life-
time? Well, our parish has a wish list…not for
things we’d like to own, but for things we need to
help us grow into a stronger more vibrant parish for
years to come.
Look back over the last few years and take
note of how much St Francis has grown…it’s
amazing isn’t it? New staff, new projects, educa-
tion opportunities, speakers, retreats, parish events-
all designed to help us grow together in faith.
As we look to our future, we see it bright
with promise. There is so much more we can do
together to help build up the kingdom of God here
in East Harlem/UES.
In order to do more, we need more staff.
We dream of someone to work particularly in
‘evangelization’ (reaching out to welcome our
neighbors into our home) and Stewardship. Some-
one who can help harness the energy and skills of
our younger and young adult members as well as
help us grow stronger financially.
A few weeks ago we told you exactly what
the price of the repair for the chair lift would be,
and you generously responded with that exact
amount.
We think if we tell you, again in the spirit
of transparency, what a salary costs for a profes-
sional lay minister you will surely understand why
we keep mentioning the need for sustainable sup-
port through Parish Pay.
Another thing on that wish list would be a
working kitchen downstairs, so when we have a
parish party we would actually have a stove to cre-
ate awesome banquets. Wouldn’t that be great?
Can YOU think of things we should add to
our parish wish list? A new kitchen and a new staff
member are pretty big ticket items wouldn’t you
agree? Would we all agree to take the time this
summer to prayerfully consider how your financial
support can directly help our parish grow into a
healthy future?
St Francis de Sales is OUR parish. Let us
work together for our future.
Please return your registration form and
deposit for our parish retreat

It is so hard to know how to react to all the
violence that is everywhere in our world today. It’s
never very far away from us anymore. It is in mid-
town, around the corner and in our own neighbor-
hoods now. It seems like at any moment a random
encounter can become violent, a peaceful protest
can turn deadly.
What do we do? What do we say? How do
we act? How do we live out our faith as Catholic
Christians in these very scary moments?
Last weeks parable of the Good Samaritan
and all of our homilies reminded us of our basic
call as followers of Jesus to choose mercy and
compassion over violence whenever we are able.
No one says that’s an easy choice to make, but it is
the choice that will lead to peace and life. So, as
often as we can, let us encourage one another to
choose good.
Summer Help Needed!
Calling all friendly faces, Eucharistic Ministers, Lec-
tors, Acolytes and altar servers. We know summertime
is busy for you and it is hard to know what Mass you
will be at on any given weekend. We want to ask you,
when you DO come to St Francis for Sunday Mass,
please check in with Willie to see if your help is needed
in any ministry for that particular Mass. Thanks so
much.

Vamos a compartir nuestra alegría
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

face conversation about how to fully enter into the

What’s in YOUR Wallet?
(Can you hear Samuel L Jackson’s voice? Or Jen-
nifer Gardiner’s? Imagine it’s God’s voice!!)
No really, we want to know! Do you still have
that fuzzy life saver in there? A bit of spare change? A
receipt from Starbucks? Your metro card! Your phone?
And how is any of that going to help when it’s time for
the collection at Mass? You know it’s really called
THE PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS for a reason!!
This is the time when we offer our financial gift in sup-
port of the parish…and that fuzzy life saver just won’t
cut it! You can, however, use your smartphone right
now to sign up for Parish Pay and set up a recurring gift
to be sent to the parish each week. This way, even
when you’re away for the weekend visiting family and
friends, you still are an important part of that presenta-
tion-by your sustaining weekly gift to St Francis de
Sales.
God Be With You!
Our senior altar server Marc Valdez will be leaving
shortly for Arizona State University. He and his lovely
mom Caroline Cora are relocating to the southwest. We
will miss them terribly! Please take time in the next few
weeks to wish them well as we send them forth from
our community with God’s blessings.
Summer Thoughts
I am so grateful for my time away
I am looking forward to days of rest and play
I go on vacation even more peaceful
Knowing I am using Parish Pay….
(To continue my support of St Francis while I am
away!)
WATCH YOUR POSTURE Our posture is often a tip-off to our hospitality and rever-
ence for the Lord. Note the actions of Abraham as he greeted
the Lord in the presence of three men who appeared near his
tent. He ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them. He
bowed to the ground as he met them. He and Sarah, his wife,
hastened to prepare a meal and bring food and water to their
guests.
In the Gospel story, Jesus’ friend Mary sat at his feet in
order to listen to him speak.
How do we welcome and reverence the Lord? What do
our actions show? Do we remember the Lord’s presence in
the Blessed Sacrament? How do we welcome the Lord in the
scripture readings? How do we acknowledge his presence in
our brothers and sisters, both at Mass and afterwards?
Whether we kneel, stand, or sit in the Lord’s presence, may our hearts and minds always be attuned to him. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
