Sunday, January 22 5 p.m. Great Day! Spirituals and Music by African-American Composers This concert will feature Good Shepherd’s own Maureen Kroncke, mezzo-soprano and Lawrence Goering, organ and piano in a program including arrangements of spirituals and organ works by nineteenth and twentieth century African-American composers. Sunday, February 5 5 p.m. Samantha Koch, Organist The winner of the 2011 East Carolina Chapter of the American Guild of Organists’ Regional Competition for Young Organists will present her winner’s recital on the 1998 Harrison & Harrison organ. Miss Koch serves as Organist and Director of Music at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Wilson, NC, and is a student of Andrew Scanlon at East Carolina University. Sunday, February 19 5 p.m. Alleluia Sunday Choral Evensong The St. James School Choir (St. James, Maryland) will sing this candlelight evening service celebrating Alleluia Sunday in the English cathedral tradition. The choir is under the direction of Simon Holt, Organist and Choirmaster at the St. James School. Sunday, March 11 5 p.m. Music for Flute and Harp: A Candlelight Concert Beth Kupsco (ute) and Vonda Darr (harp) will present a concert including works by Mozart, Debussy, Bizet, Delibes, and Liszt. This program will be the sixth annual Lynn Kroncke Memorial Concert. Sunday, October 2 5 p.m. St. Francis Day Choral Evensong with Blessing of the Animals Bring your pets and a blanket or lawn chair for this special outside service that will be sung by the Cherub, Alleluia, and Good Shepherd Choirs. Sunday, October 23 5 p.m. We Sing to Him! A Concert of Sacred Vocal Music This concert will feature Good Shepherd’s own Maureen Kroncke, mezzo-soprano; Evans Harrell, bass; and Lawrence Goering, organ and piano in a program including works by Purcell, Handel, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Gounod, Thiman, and arrangements of spirituals. Sunday, November 13 5 p.m. Music for Trumpet and Piano: A Candlelight Concert Dr. Edward Bach (trumpet) and Nancy Davis (piano) will present a concert including music by Handel, Neruda, Erickson, and Pares. The concert will also include Dr. Bach’s own arrangements of familiar hymns, including Amazing Grace, and jazz arrangements of works by Gershwin and Sondheim. An internationally acclaimed performer, Dr. Bach is a native of Canada and is currently professor of trumpet at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a member of the Market Street Brass. Sunday, December 11 5 p.m. A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols This much-loved annual candlelight service sung by the Alleluia and Good Shepherd Choirs will include traditional carols, hymns, and anthems. A wassail reception will follow the service. Saturday, December 24 10:30 p.m. Prelude to the Eleven O’clock Christmas Eve Eucharist The Good Shepherd Choir and soloists will sing favorite Christmas anthems and carols. Sunday, April 29 5 p.m. Svyati: Music for Cello and Organ Internationally acclaimed British duo Svyati, Rebecca Hewes (cello) and Julian Collings (organ), has as its patron English composer Sir John Tavener. Svyati will present a concert on Good Shepherd Sunday including works by Bach, Bruch, Jongen, and Rheinberger. Sunday, May 13 6 p.m. Mother’s Day Dinner Theatre For the thirteenth annual Mother’s Day Dinner Theatre, the Cherub Choir, Alleluia Choir, children from the Good Shepherd Day School and the Good Shepherd Youth will perform a musical to be announced. There is a small charge for the dinner served at this event and tickets are required. We will begin selling tickets a few weeks prior to the dinner. Sunday, May 20 5 p.m. Choral Evensong: The Sunday After Ascension The Good Shepherd Choir will sing this candlelight evening service in the English cathedral tradition celebrating The Sunday After Ascension.
