From the Pastor’s Desk…
The major seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, Triduum, and Easter are now past, but about half the year remains for us to celebrate our redemp on in Christ in a more general way. Before we resume the counted Sundays of Ordinary Time, however, we devote this Sunday and next to celebra ng two profound mysteries of our faith: the Most Holy Trinity and the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. A special feast in honor of the Most Holy Trinity began in monas c communi es as early as the ninth century. By the fourteenth century, the whole Western church was observing it as it does today, on the Sunday a er Pentecost. Just a reminder that we will celebrate Corpus Chris Sunday next weekend with a special Mass at 11:30 a.m., followed by a procession around the church stopping at four altars, reci ng prayers, singing hymns, and ending with Benedic on in the church.

Thanks to all who are beginning to support our new Queen of Hearts Raffle to help offset the large subsidy our parish provides to maintain the opera on of our cherished school. Two weeks ago, we had our first draw. The person whose cket was pulled had chosen the number “1”. Behind card number “1” happened to be the Queen of Clubs. The winner, Jim Petruzzi, was present and received $100. Congratula ons! This past Monday night, the number “15“ was pulled. The 9 of Hearts happened to be behind the number “15“ card. The winner, Laura Perna, was not present; so as of June 10th, the Jackpot now stands at around $1,700.00. The jackpot is beginning to grow from week to week and we hope it con nues to do so. You can’t win if you don’t play. We’ve made it very easy to purchase ckets. They can be obtained at the school and parish offices during regular business hours and a er Masses on the weekend in the ves bule. They are $5 each. Let’s all try to make this a successful fundraising event. Let your family, friends and neighbors know about it and encourage them to get a cket or two. As the jackpot grows, so too, does the excitement! Thanks to all those who are par cipa ng. You can check out the card numbers that are available from week to week in the Sunday Bulle n, the School website, Facebook, or the Game Board located in the ves bule of church.

Next weekend, I will be up in Green Bay, Wisconsin a ending the Ordina on and First Mass of a young man named Ma Fauce , who was in grammar school when I was pastor at Prince of Peace in Lake Villa. He and his family have since moved up to the Green Bay area. I was fortunate to have go en to know him and his family not only as parishioners but also as one of our school families and over many family meals at their home. As you might imagine, I was so happy when Ma called to tell me of his plans to pursue entering the seminary. Now a er many years of prepara on and the comple on of his studies in Rome, he will be ordained for the Diocese of Green Bay and begin his ministry as a priest this July. Please keep him and all those preparing for the priesthood or the religious life in your prayers.

Finally, Dads, I’d like to wish all of you a very Happy Father’s Day! So o en Father’s Day takes a back seat to Mother’s Day, yet both days are important reminders to us of the two most important people in our lives. May all of our fathers know of our respect, love, admira on and apprecia on of them. If you are fortunate to s ll have your father with you, give him a call, write him a le er, or just tell him how much he means to you. I’m sure it would mean the world to him.

SCHEDULING THE USE OF PARISH FACILITIES AUGUST 2019 THRU JUNE 30, 2020 The calendar year for the use of parish facil-ities by parish ministries is from August 1st through June 30th. During the month of July no events are scheduled. This allows time for the extensive summer cleaning and repairs in the buildings. When summer maintenance projects require Au-gust scheduling, part or all of August may also be unavailable for use by parish and other organiza-tions. The calendar committee will meet after July 1, 2019 to approve the scheduling of events for the months through June 2020. All organizations re-questing space must submit the official scheduling forms (available in the rectory). Forms must be completed in full and returned to the rectory no later than June 30, 2019 No organization should assume that the space and meeting times available in past years will continue to be available during the 2019-20 school year. All groups and parish organizations are, therefore, reminded to await the confirmation of available space for dates submitted before final-izing plans for events.

THIS IS THE HOLY TRINITY Today we celebrate the Holy Trinity, one of the most confounding mysteries of our faith. Through this mystery we experience our rela onship to God: Creator, Savior, and Holy Spirit. This rela onship is not easy to understand or to describe. It does not become clearer through analysis. Its complexity mirrors the complexity of all our rela onships. We understand our rela onships with our spouses, our children, our parents, and our friends only through daily give-and-take, annual rituals, and the life-changing moments we share. We understand our rela onships only as we live them. The rela onships we have with those we love, and who love us, sustain us through an uncertain and difficult life. This is the Holy Trinity. What is striking about today’s readings is that each is incomplete. What they do offer is a descrip on of a moment in our rela onship, a memory of a me and an event when our rela onship made sense even though that sense may be beyond our ability to describe fully. O en that is all that our faith offers, that is, a memory of what is possible, what is promised, what has been given. A memory of eternity, of love beyond understanding is to be cherished and nurtured even if not fully understood. This is the Holy Trinity. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Thank You for Farewell Masses and Receptions
Dear St. Eugene Family,
Thank you for the wonderful receptions and the beautiful parish and school Farewell Masses. I would like to thank Lydia and the Adult/Kids Choir for all the beautiful music. I would like to thank all the liturgical ministers who were able to help foster a prayerful celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. I would like to thank 1st Grade for coordinating the School Mass. Thank you to the school for the beautiful picture book; I absolutely love that picture book with all the messages from each class, and the gifts cards to AMC and Buona Beef. Thank You to Fr. Rich and St. Eugene Parish for a very generous monetary gift.
Both Masses and receptions REALLY touched my heart. Thank you to all those who were able to attend these special days — some even both.
I would like to thank in a special way, the Altar and Rosary Society, lead by Lois Feist and the all the Parish Pastoral Council members, with Sal Sparacino representing the Council, for organizing a thoughtful and fantastic fun-filled reception. Thank You to all those who brought baked goods — they were delicious — and all those who helped make sandwiches. The cake tasted great and I loved the personal touch of my picture printed on the top of the cake. Thank you to the school students for decorating the gym. I would like to thank everyone who was able to wait in line and say goodbye — that meant a lot to me (sorry if anyone waited too long). I just love talking to everyone. I would like to thank Dr. Carolyn Edwards for taking so many beautiful pictures at the Mass and reception; they turned out great. I would like to thank Barbara Meier for promoting my farewell events weekly through the bulletin and taking some great pictures for the bulletin. I would like to thank Fr. Rich Ya-nos for asking the Altar and Rosary and Parish Council to coordinate the event. I would also like to thank Fr. Greg Wojcik for checking on the status of the reception, making sure the everything was coming together.
Overall, thank you for such great four years, for all those who have said so many kind words over the last few months and have given me very generous gifts.
I hope to come back and visit after 6 months. I will keep you in my prayers and please continue to keep me in yours.
Take care, God Bless, and Goodbye With Christ’s love in prayer, Father John Hetland P.S. Some have asked for my new address Starting July 1, 2019 Prince of Peace Catholic Church 135 S Milwaukee Ave Lake Villa, IL 60046 Parish Office 1(847)356-5850

Prayer with Scripture
We invite you to an encounter of prayer where you can stop from the hurry of the moment and listen to God through God’s Word, in silence, meditation, ad-oration and contemplation. In this short but intense time, we listen to a talk that introduces us into the understanding of the Word of God, which later, we reflect on and meditate in an attitude of faith, discov-ering what God is trying to reveal to us. The prayer is accompanied by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with songs to help the faithful enter more into prayer.

SCHEDULE OF LITURGICAL MINISTERS
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today’s feast, extending a dimension of Easter joy into Ordinary Time, reminds us that every aspect of worship centers on the mystery of God in three persons. At bap sm, we are ini ated into Christ and the Spirit. The Creed we recite at Mass every Sunday has its roots in the ancient celebra on of bap sm, when a new believer was ques oned at the edge of the waters of the font with three ques ons: Do you believe in God, the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit? Three ques ons, three affirma ons, three immersions into the saving waters. Because every liturgy abounds with references to the Trinity, not only in words but in blessings by the sign of the cross, this feast was not easily accepted into the calendar. Pope Alexander in the eleventh century remarked that the liturgy is so laden with praise of the Trinity that there was no need for a special feast. Two hundred years later, while in exile in France, Pope John XXII proclaimed the feast, but it was not un l 1911 that Pope St. Pius X gave it status as a solemnity. A favorite image in art for today is the Icon of the Trinity, showing three glorious winged men seated at a table laden with bread and a cup of wine. It recalls Abraham’s hospitality to angels and gives expression to the inner life of God, a life lived in rela onship, a life poured out in abundance whenever Chris ans gather at the table of the Eucharist to give praise to the Father, in Christ, in the embrace of the Spirit. —James Field, Copyright © J. PLEASE CALL THE RECTORY IF YOU WOULD LIKE A NAME TO STAY ON THE LIST.
ADDING NAMES TO THE PARISH SICK LIST It has always been the goal of St. Eugene to offer our parish community an opportunity to pray for those
parishioners who are ill and in need of our prayers. We have tried to keep close track of these names for our Bulletin as they are made available to us.
However, now we face an important privacy issue, very much like the issues faced by hospitals, health institutions, and certainly by other parishes.
We cannot (by law) publicly let our parish community know the health status of any of our members without their permission.
We appreciate the fact that often friends, neighbors, and acquaintances wish to do something special for a person who is ill, and ask to place their name on the list to be prayed for. While their intentions are surely good, we simply can no longer accept names in this manner.
Names for the sick list placed in the Bulletin have to be called in by the person who is ill, or by a member of their immediate family. At the time they call in the name, they will be asked whether they are the sick person him/herself, or a member of their family, and if they give permission for the name to be placed on the list. They will be asked for the correct spelling of the sick person's name. If a family member, they will be required to give their name for our records.
Thank you for your patience regarding this process. We wish to do all we can to offer our parish community the opportunity to offer prayers for those who are ill — but we must also be cognizant of the fact that all members of our congregation are entitled to their privacy in this regard.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION One of the great treasures of the Eastern tradition is the icon of the Holy Trinity created by the Russian iconographer Andrei Rublev in the 1400s. The Trinity is symbolized by the three travelers to the tent of Abraham and Sarah. They are seated at a table blessing a cup of wine, under the oak of Mamre. If you look closely, you will see a sacrificed calf in the chalice, reminding the viewer of the cross. The table, prepared for eating and tilted toward the viewer, is an invitation to the Eucharist. From left to right, each figure is keyed to a person of the Trinity. Like all icons, this image is theology in art. The persons are equal in proportion and dignity, they all carry staffs to symbolize their power, and are shown with golden wings and halos. Today, the best place to see Rublev’s work is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, at the heart of the vast Holy Trinity monastery about an hour from Moscow. After decades of persecution, it is now once again a living monastery, a world heritage site, and the spiritual home of Russian Orthodoxy. A Google visit is highly recommended today! —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

We ask all of our parishioners, if you have a loved one serving in the military,
to please contact the rectory office to give us the name of the soldier, so the
whole parish can pray for your loved one. A book in the church vestibule is
available for inscribing the names of all military personnel. This book will be part of the offertory
procession from now until the war is over.
A PRAYER L , . P . B . W J L S . A
We pray for our loved ones
who are serving in any branch of the Armed Forces during this time of conflict.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission as Catholics united in faith at St. Eugene Parish is to help bring God to people and people to God. Through evangelization, education and being of service to each other, we strive to make our parish community a holistic community in body, mind and spirit. It is our goal to develop, support, encourage and empower one another in our parish ministries, so that each person can reach their human and Christian po-tential. We are enthused about the future of St. Eugene and the whole Catholic Church and we pledge our participation in that future. We seek dialogue and open communication with all parishioners in fulfilling the needs of our parish. While recognizing the cultural diversities in our community, we will strive to bring all people together in Christ under a common bond of faith, hope and love.
