Take Action Sunday Passage of the Conscience Protection Act (CPA) continues to be a top legislative priority for the
USCCB Committee for Pro Life Activities. It will write into permanent law the core policy of the Weldon Amendment, which protects those who decline to perform, pay for, refer for, or provide
coverage for abortion. Human Life Action (HLA) is conducting a
nationwide program called Take Action Sunday to engage the faithful and in proclaiming the Gospel of
Life relative to the legislative process. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will be participating
in Take Action Sunday during the weekend of May 20-21, 2017. The goal of Take Action Sunday is
straightforward. We hope to generate many grassroots messages from the Faithful to Congress urging support for the Conscience Protection Act.
Please consider mobilizing to advocate for passage of this important legislation in defense of life and
freedom of conscience. Through the website www.HumanLifeAction.org
you can easily send an email to your legislative leaders.
Parish Marian Celebration Date: Tuesday, May 16th at 7:00pm Place: Please gather in church What to Bring: Flowers from your yard/garden to place before the statue of Mary. Please bring your rosary, too. What to Expect: The Parish Marian Celebration will be conducted in church. At the conclusion of our Marian Celebration, all the flowers will be placed near the Blessed Mother statue in the lobby and remain there until the weekend. Personal vases can be retrieved at that time. A special invitation to participate is extended to all of our children who recently celebrated FIRST PENANCE (please wear your First Penance Pin and something blue in honor of Mary), FIRST HOLY COMMUNION (please wear your dress or suit and your pin), and CONFIRMATION (please wear your white robe). All the children are asked to gather this year in the hallway of the school by the kindergarten classrooms by 6:30pm. They will march in procession into church. Actually, any child who attends, no matter what age, is welcome to walk in our procession. At the conclusion of the Marian Celebration, please secure your child from his/her seat.

The Centennial of Our Lady of Fatima: Mary Continues to Speak to the Church
Beginning this May, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia joins with the Universal Church to celebrate the 100th Anniversary
of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal. Our Lady’s appearances and the messages that she
gave were a means by which God called man to prayer, sacrifice, and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
God’s Revelation, begun in the Old Testament, was brought to fulfilment in the Life of Christ and the witness born to Him by the Apostles and the New Testament. In this public revelation,
God has spoken all that He desires to communicate to man. The apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima are examples of
private revelation. Private revelations are helps that God grants to His Church to enable it to live more fully by Christ’s
definitive revelation in a particular period of history. “God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my
Immaculate Heart.” In Fatima, Our Lady asked specifically for the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart, but she
also promised that Christians who would turn to her in prayer, especially through the recitation of the rosary, would be
granted the grace they need to overcome sin and would be led by her Immaculate Heart to God.
The Practice of Reparation on the First Saturdays. Our Lady of Fatima asked for this devotion specifically to prevent God’s punishment upon the sins of the world, and for the conversion
of Russia. The First Saturday devotion makes reparation for the offenses committed against Mary’s honor by those who reject her Immaculate Conception, Perpetual Virginity, and Divine
Motherhood. It also offers reparation for those who reject her spiritual maternity or who outrage her
in holy images. “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” The unique message of Our Lady of Fatima continues to shape the lives of
Christian believers. She promises peace to the world and salvation to sinners through prayer and through the sacrifices that Christians offer to God. The prayers of the children of
Fatima are simple yet profound pleas for the conversion of the world that all of us are invited to integrate into our
daily prayer life. To join in the Archdiocesan Fatima celebrations,
visit archphila.org/fatima.

TWO MOTHERS
Long, long ago, so I have been told,
Two angels once met on the streets paved with gold. “By the stars in your crown,” said one to the other,
“I see that on earth, you, too, were a mother. And by the blue-tinted halo you wear
You, too, have known sorrow and despair.”
“Oh, yes”, came the answer, “I once had a son,
A sweet little lad full of laughter and fun. But tell of your child.”
“Oh, I knew I was blessed from the moment I first held him close to my breast
And my heart almost burst With the joy of that day.”
“Oh, yes,” sighed the other,
“I felt the same way,” the former continued. “The first steps he took so eager and breathless.
The sweet startled look which came over his face… He trusted me so.”
“Ah, yes,” sighed the other, “how well do I know.
But soon he had grown to a tall handsome boy, So stalwart and kind, and it gave me such joy
To have him just walk down the street by my side.”
“Ah, yes,” said the other, “I have felt the same pride. How often I shielded
And spared him from pain. And when he for others was so cruelly slain— When they crucified him and spat in his face.
How gladly would I have hung there in his place.”
A moment of silence—“Oh, then, you are she, the mother of Christ!” Then she fell on one knee. But the blessed One raised her up, drawing her near,
And kissed from the cheek of the woman a tear.
“Tell me the name of the man you so loved So that I may share with you your grief and your woe.”
She lifted her eyes looking straight at the other. “He was Judas Iscariot, and I am his mother.”
