Principal Message
The days are longer, and the weekends seem to pass by so incredibly quick due to a long outside “to do list’. That must mean that summer is approaching. Considering that I am writing a June newsletter message I know it is true. Junior High Final Exams and Provincial Achievement tests for Grade 9 and 6 are a mere three weeks away. I urge parents to review the newsletter and/or the school website to see the exam schedule. Looking back at the last few weeks and into the last few weeks to come, it was and is encouraging to see so much going on around the school. School sports teams were wrapping up badminton, flag football, and track and field. Nearly a night would go by that coaches weren’t coaching, and students were practicing or participating. Watching the talent in action is always thrilling to see just how dynamic Seton is. We celebrated our Fine Arts Night and began the evening with a Silent Auction. Thank you to those parents who worked on the committee and to those families that donated items to the auction. Your support is appreciated. One of the constants in our lives is change, and Seton will have a few changes next year. Mr. Principalli will be supporting St. Ambrose school community. We wish him an exciting and positive experience! In his place we welcome Mr. David Wiens as Vice Principal. Mr. Wiens joins us from St. John XXIII. June always brings us farewells and new “welcomes” A warm good luck and farewell to Ms. Sevalrud, Ms. Young, and Ms. Toth as they move to their new schools and embark on this new wonderful journey. We thank them for their contributions. We will be continuing the staffing process until the end of the school year, all other changes to our teaching faculty will be announced in the final year correspondence. We are currently staffing our school for next year and will be planning classes and class lists. Our class lists will be ready on the first day of school. Careful consideration goes into making our classes. Having said that, if there are any special considerations that should be known by Administration, please let the office know by mid-June. I would like to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thanks to the group of parents who made a consistent effort to be active participants at our school council meetings all year long. From parents to volunteers, staff to students. St. Elizabeth Seton has accomplished so very much. As principal, I applaud everyone’s fine work. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this amazing faith filled, and supportive school community. I am extremely proud to call St. Elizabeth Seton my school. Thank you for supporting us and trusting us to take care of your children. We feel enriched knowing that we played a big part in their learning and their becoming more responsible citizens. To our Grade 9 students – congratulations on your achievement. The St. Elizabeth Seton staff wish you all the best as you move on to the challenges and joys of high school. Parents, if this is your last child to leave St. Elizabeth Seton - the staff would like to thank you for your support and for the guidance that you have provided for your child(ren). We look forward to hearing from the Grade 9’s in the future and we hope that each of them will have gained a firm foundation for their education while at Seton. For those families who will be returning in September, school will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. So, as we get ready for the long, hot days of summer… be sure to spend as much time as you can with your children this summer. Go fishing, catch frogs and eat ice cream together. Read to them, let them read to you. Let them get dirty, and then swim in a pool, run through the sprinkler or jump into the lake. Enjoy these moments; these are the memories that will remembered and cherished. On behalf of the staff, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy summer. May our Lord bless us all on this journey ahead. Blessings, Mrs. A. Corah

Fine Arts Night
We would like to send a huge thank you to all those who supported our 2019 Fine Arts Night! We especially would like to thank all of the parents who set up the silent auction and who volunteered their time, energy, and passion to make the evening such a success.
As a Drama teacher, I felt so fortunate to have such talented and passionate students. These students gave me their lunch hours and many days after school to make this evening happen. Each student involved put many hours of their own time in order to make their performances spectacular. The grade 7 students worked very hard on their scenes, and the Drama 8 Full Year students rehearsed tirelessly on the Aladdin Jr. scenes. The grade 9 students were fantastic with their wandering characters and showed their amazing abilities to create stage and character makeup. The grade 9 students also gave many hours of their time in order to bring the shadow puppets to life. Those involved in the Annie sketch did a wonderful job continuing to bring those characters to life. -Ms. Nahas The visual art students are very creative and talented. With over 300 students in this option over the year, it was difficult to select pieces to showcase. Each student involved in the arts put in many hours in their work in many different mediums. The grade 7 classes showcased their dragon drawings, 3-D illusions, Pop Art Superheroes and Funky Birds. The grade 8 classes showcased their Bad Hair Day with pen and ink, a Vincent Van Gogh master study in pastel, Georgia O’Keefe inspired flower paintings, Animals drawings and Pop Art Paper Mache snack foods. The grade 9 classes showcased their Mandalas, Surrealism perspective drawings, Watercolour landscape, Acrylic Paintings and Paper mache bowls. -Ms. Moskwa As the music teacher, I was excited to include so many students in this event. 150 band students were involved in Fine Arts Night. They began rehearsing the Disney repertoire in January during class and spent many lunch hours rehearsing together leading up to the performance. They performed music from Toy Story, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lion King, How To Train Your Dragon and Moana. The students rose to the chal-lenge to perform these challenging pieces. I am so proud of their progress over the year and their ability to collabo-rate and support one another. It was a fantastic showcase of Seton musical talent! -Ms. Phillips
Thank you to all of the teachers, students, and parents who helped us during the evening. Thank you as well to our ad-ministrators for all of their support throughout the process. We truly hope that you all enjoyed the evening. Congratulations to all of the students who demonstrated that the Fine Arts are well and alive here at Seton! We can’t wait until next year! Sincerely, Nadine Nahas Val Moskwa Lindsay Phillips Drama Teacher Art Teacher Band Teacher

Enterprise and Innovation 9 Option Students from the grade 9 Enterprise and Innovation option held three fairs this year to sell the products they developed in class. The first term fair was aimed towards a Christmas theme and the second term geared their products towards Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days on their two sales days. The proceeds from the three fairs netted $285.15 for our partner school, Chugu Primary School, in Meru, Kenya. Thank you for your support!
Flag Football Flag Football season came to end this week! Each grade had a successful season, with the players learning and improving as the season progressed. We played against some tough opponents throughout the month and made some incredible touchdowns and interceptions leading to Seton winning the majority of their games. Our teams should be very proud of themselves as they showed great pride, sportsmanship, and respect on the field! Thanks for a great season!
Track and Field Our City Finals Track Meet is quickly approaching with the end of school in sight We are looking forward to watch the talented athletes perform on June 7th and display amazing determination in all events that take place. The coaches are looking forward to the day and are diligently preparing our student athletes for the Finals. If your child is representing the “Sting” track team please make sure they come with the proper clothing, hats, nutrition, water and sun screen. If you are planning to pick up your child from Glenmore Athletic Park, and they will not be taking the bus back to the school please notify the school by Monday June 3, 2019 at the latest. We hope to see some of you there to cheer us on!
Progress Reports Progress reports will be distributed on June 27th which is a full day of school. We will not be able to hand out progress reports prior to the end of the day. If your child will not be here, please send in a large stamped addressed envelope prior to that day and we will mail the report cards out. If there is a question about the progress report the parents will have the opportunity on Friday, June 28th from 8-12 pm to call or stop by the school so that the teacher can answer any questions you may have.

He encouraged students to be kind and helpful to their own mothers. The liturgy was hosted by Mrs. Lombardo’s grade 1 and Ms. Evans grade 6 students. Mothers who were present at the liturgy were presented with a carnation.
Hats on for Mental Health On May 1st, 2019 St. Elizabeth Seton staff and students continued to show their support for raising awareness of mental health. Staff and students wore hats during the day. Provincial Achievement Tests/Final Exams
Class Placements for 2019/20 It is very important that everyone understands that the decision regarding the placement of children into particular classes rests with the teachers and administration. Parent concerns and input are considered as part of a process when developing class lists. Should you have a valid educational concern regarding the placement of your child, you are advised to speak with your child’s teacher and then put your concerns in writing to Mrs. Corah at [email protected]
