Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults All parishioners are welcome to join us and support those who are actively seeking a better understanding of the Catholic Faith. The topic this week is: Sacraments of Initiation. We meet in Seton Hall Tuesday, November 10, 7:30—9:00 pm.

New to St. Elizabeth Parish? Register on November 19

We invite all those interested in joining St. Elizabeth parish to join us Thursday, November 19 at 6:30 pm in the Parish Ministry Center (northeast corner of Main and 75th Streets). The registration form is quick and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have. You must be a registered parishioner for sacramental preparation. To sign up for this session call Sandi Lombardino at the parish office, 816.523.2405.

Homily Focus Group What it is: St. Elizabeth parishioners meet for an

hour and reflect on the Sunday Readings in the current liturgical cycle. This is done by looking at how the Scriptures apply to concrete situations in our lives and in the world. Reflections will assist the priest to prepare a homily that is suited to the needs of the community. In addition to this, the exercise will help one to grow in deeper appreciation of Scripture and prepare one to better hear the readings proclaimed at Mass. Several parishioners have already been involved in this and have enjoyed it very much. I myself have found it very helpful and enriching to my own spiritual life.

When it is: There are several dates I have set aside for the remainder of the year. The meetings will be from 7 pm to 8 pm on the following days.

Tax-Free IRA Gifts Extended Did you know that federal law still allows tax-free

charitable distributions from your IRA? Charitable taxpayers who are 70 and one-half or older can direct “qualified charitable distributions” from their fund administrator directly to the charities of their choice, including one’s parish, school or favorite ministry.

Anyone with an IRA who is 70 and one-half years old or older at the time of the distribution should explore this possibility. This provision was renewed to cover the period through December 31, 2009. For the details, contact your legal or financial advisor or Greg Vranicar at 816.756.1858 x 529.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter In today’s First reading it says, “The jar of flour shall

not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry”. Your love for your spouse can last forever, too. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends in Missouri are February 13-14, 2010 in Branson and April 16-18 in Kansas City. Dates fill fast, early registration is recommended. For more information visit our website at: http//wwme4youand me.org or contact Shawn and Stephanie Souders at 816.903.1988.

A Serran with a signup sheet will be in the back of Church after the 7 am Masses on November 9, 10, 1 1 or you can contact Jerry Haake at 816.305.8065 or at [email protected].

Gently Used Bicycles Wanted Several members of St. Elizabeth School Girl Scout Troop 242 are coordinating a Bike Safety Rodeo in the spring. We are currently collecting gently used bikes any size. These bikes will be used at our Bike Safety Rodeo and then will be

given to children that do not have the resources to purchase bikes. Through our Bike Safety rodeo, we hope to help kids in the urban core of Kansas City learn about the safety aspects of riding a bicycle on streets and roads and also the importance of wearing helmets. Please call us 816.822.7887 if you have a gently used bike that you would like to donate and we will make plans to pick it up. Thank you. Troop 242 (Courtney Didier, Lindsay Fiola, Maggie McClain, Ashley Meyers and Abbie Young)

All families in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph have felt the pain and uncertainty of the recent turmoil in our economy and markets. We reach out to those who have the means to help to ―move mountains‖ through the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. We seek to help the most needy, to educate our children, to nurture family life and marriages, and to help the recently imprisoned adjust to society. God calls us to reach out and the BAA gives us the means to do so.

As you prayerfully consider your pledge to this year’s campaign ―Faith Moves Mountains‖ (Matthew 17:21, consider the times when you might have needed the help of another and you received it. The Catholic Church in Northwest Missouri provides this type of help and relies on your sacrificial giving to make it happen. Be Christ for others…..pledge a generous gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal.

We Need You 4 months ended 10/31/1009

Budgeted Amount Contributions $512,000.00 Actual Collected Contributions $470.955.75 Shortage from Budget ($ 41,044.25) We are approaching a time of thanksgiving and we are thankful for all we receive of your time, talent and treasure. As you can see we are falling short of our budget so far this year. We are feeling the pinch from our slow economy like many of our parish families. We had to borrow from our savings to cover our expenses in October. Thank God for our savings but we cannot keep doing that. For those who can, please make sure you are up to date with your pledge. Any goodwill additions are welcome. Thank you for your understanding and efforts. -Fr. Terry Bruce
