ED FLEMING - INDUCTION 1989 | Ed Fleming graduated from SEU in 1936. He won letters in football and bas-ketball. In 1937, Fleming was named assistant football and basketball coach and served as athletic director from 1939 to1942. ED NORRIS - INDUCTION 1987 | Ed attended St. Edwards from 1937 to 1941 and was an outstanding football, baseball and basketball player. He was an All-Conference basketball player for two years. In 1945 he joined the SEU faculty and later became Athletic Director. He was the coach of St. Edward’s teams for 19 years, an official of the NAIA, a Commissioner of the Big State Conference for 15 years and the Lone Star Conference for five years.BOB BECK - INDUCTION 1987 | Bob Beck attended St. Edward’s University from 1968 to 1971 during which time he was an All-Conference basketball player for three years, and an All-Conference baseball player for one year. He played on the conference-winning basketball team in 1971 and the conference-winning baseball team in 1969. He received the Most Valuable Player Award and the SEU Outstanding Athlete Award in 1971. JOE BECK - INDUCTION 1987 | Joe Beck was an All-Conference basketball player in 1956, 1957 and 1958 and was also named Most Valuable Player in 1958, when he led the nation in free-throw percentage. In the 1956–1957 season, Beck was named honorable mention All-America. He began his coaching career at St. Edward’s High School and later joined St. Edward’s University. In 1965, he became the head basketball coach and held that position for eight years. As a student-athlete, he held the high scoring record for a single game of 42 points until it was broken by one of his players, Zeke Everett, in 1974. He was coach of the year in the Big State Conference in 1971.RON BELLA - INDUCTION 1995 | Ron Bella was a four-year letterwinner for the Hilltoppers from 1952 to1953 and from 1955 to1956. During his four seasons, Bella helped lead the team to a 51-36 overall record and the Big State Conference Championship in 1953–1954. Bella was named first-team All-Conference his senior season and honorable mention All-Conference his junior season.MIKE CANFIELD - INDUCTION 1991 | Mike Canfield, a 1968 graduate of St. Edward’s University, was a four year letter winner in basketball—playing forward and guard. He was Athlete of the Year in 1968, earned All-Big State Conference for four years, and was listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1968. He was En-glish teacher and head basketball coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio. Canfield’s team won the district championship in 1983, and he was named coach of the year.DENELL DAVIS - INDUCTION 1993 | DeNell Davis, a 1987 graduate with a BBA in Finance, was a four-time bas-ketball letterman and holds the second all-time leading scorer (2,254) and third all-time rebounder (1,083) titles. Davis blew onto the court as a freshman forward during the 1982–1983 season and was named second-team All Big State Conference. During his sophomore year, Davis set a single season scoring record with 599 points and led in rebounds, with 7.7 boards per game. After a year’s break, Davis returned to the team as a junior in 1985–1986 and led the Hilltoppers to their first outright Big State conference title in over 20 years, losing only two conference games. On the way, he earned All-District IV and NAIA District IV Player of the Year honors. As a senior, he led the team in a trio of individual single game highs: most field goals (14), most free throws (10) and most rebounds (20). Those stats and his superior schoolwork garnered Davis Academic All-American and NAIA Third Team All American.MARVIN DURRENBERGER - INDUCTION 1989 | Marvin Durrenberger attended St. Edward’s Univeristy from 1922 to1927. During that time, he lettered four times each in football, basketball, baseball and track and won honors in both football and basketball. Durrenberger was a 1927 graduate of St. Edward’s.DAVE ECKSTEIN - INDUCTION 1989 | Dave Eckstein attended St. Edward’s University from 1958 to1962, where he earned four letters each in basketball (guard) and baseball (infield). He was named the Knights of Columbus’ Most Valuable Player for baseball and basketball in 1961–1962. Eckstein also received Athlete of the Year in 19611962, and first-team Big State Conference in 1961–1962.ZEMBRA EVERETT - INDUCTION 1987 | Everett was named an All-Conference basketball player and was an inte-gral part of the 1971 Big State Championship team. He was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player for three years. In 1974, he broke the single-game scoring record at St. Edward’s University, with a total of 46 points and held the record for the most career points in St. Edward’s University basketball history at the time. Everett was also a member of the baseball team as a relief pitcher, where he posted a 6-6 record and a career ERA of 2.82.FRANKIE FARLEY - INDUCTION 1987 | Frankie Farley attended St. Edward’s University from 1921 to 1924, and was on the varsity baseball team from 1922 to 1924. He was captain in 1923 and 1925. He was also class president and editor of the St. Edward’s University Echo. Farley graduated from St. Edward’s in 1925.JAY LEE HOBBS - INDUCTION 1997 | Jay Lee Hobbs was a four-year letterwinner for the Hilltoppers from 1987 to 1990. He was the most prolific scorer in St. Edward’s University men’s basketball history, leading all-time with 2,275 points. He was the all-time leader in field goals made (880) and field goals attempted (1534). Hobbs was a three-time all-district and All-Conference selection.HAROLD JANSING - INDUCTION 1987 | Harold Jansing attended St. Edward’s University from 1926 to 1930 and played on the varsity football, basketball and baseball teams. He was an All-Conference basketball and football player and was a member of the Texas Conference-winning basketball team his freshman season. Jansing graduat-ed in 1930 with a degree in journalism.BOB LUCASH - INDUCTION 1987 | Bob played point guard on the SEU Basketball team from 1968 to 1972. He received the Defensive Player Award in 1969, 1970 and 1971. He was a Big State Conference selection in 1971 and was also chosen as St. Edward’s “Man of the Year” in 1972 and “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.” The magna cum laude graduated in 1972.PAUL MCDERMOTT - INDUCTION 1991 | McDermott played guard and lettered in basketball for four years before graduating in 1965. He was a Big State Conference All-Conference Selection, was the Knights of Columbus Most Valuable Player, and a member of the 1964 Big State Conference co-championship team. A special memory of Paul’s is being a freshman and getting to play on the same team as Dave Eckstein and Jim O’Keefe, and he regards the highlight of his career as being coached by Ed Norris and Tom Hamilton. He also played outfield in baseball, ran track and bowled.

JACK MEAGHER - INDUCTION 1989 | John Meagher played football under Knute Rockne at Notre Dame before coming to St. Edward’s where he coached football and baseball and attended as a graduate student from 1923 to 1927. From 1923-1925, SEU lost only three football games under Meagher’s guidance. ED NEU - INDUCTION 1989 | Neu attended SEU from 1948 to 1952. He lettered four times in both basketball and baseball. Neu was voted St. Edward’s Most Valuable Player in basketball 1949-1950 and 1951. Neu remembers attending the National Catholic Basketball Tournament in Denver in March 1949 and scoring 41 points and grabbing 22 rebounds in one game against Texas Lutheran.T.J. O’CONNOR - INDUCTION 1989 | T.J. O’Connor, from Elgin, Illinois, graduated from SEU in 1928. As a football player, he was described in the 1925 yearbook: “The two field generals who directed the efforts of this brilliant array of backs were the light but shifty O’Connor, who excelled at snagging passes and running back punts…” O’Connor coached football and basketball at SEU before working for the State.JIM O’KEEFE - INDUCTION 1989 | O’Keefe, a 1962 St. Edward’s graduate, came from South Bend, Indiana. While at SEU, he was regarded as the top player for the small college All-American Team and was also on the Knights of Columbus all-conference basketball team. He lettered in basketball and led in scoring with an 18.3 average. O’Keefe received his master’s degree in education at Ball State University in Indiana.BURKE O’ROURKE - INDUCTION 1989 | Burke O’ Rourke attended SEU from 1949 to 1951. He lettered once in baseball in 1949 and twice in basketball in 1949 and 1950. In 1949, O’Rourke won the Knights of Columbus Most Valuable Player Award in baseball.MIKE OTOLSKI - INDUCTION 1991 | Otolski, a 1967 graduate, played basketball and baseball at St. Edward’s. The basketball team’s leading scorer beginning in his freshman year, Mike scored 344 points in his last season, averaging 15.0 points a game. He lettered all four years and was all-conference in 1965 and 1966. He was voted Most Valuable Player in 1965 and still holds 10th place in career scoring in men’s basketball at St. Edward’s with 1371 points. In baseball, Mike led the pitching staff and was known as “Iron Man.” In 1966, his four RBIs helped the team win the Big State Conference title. AL POPP - INDUCTION 1991 | Popp graduated from St. Edward’s in 1957. He lettered four years in basketball, playing center and forward. During his senior year he was voted Most Valuable Player and during his junior year he was selected second-team all-conference. He also ran track for three years. CHARLIE POPP - INDUCTION 1991 | Charlie Popp graduated from St. Edward’s in 1959. He played forward and center on the St. Edward’s basketball team for four years. He lettered four years in basketball, was on the All Big State Conference freshman team, was 1959 Man of the Year, and president of the Indiana Club and the Letterman Club. He received the CYO-St. John Bosco Medal and was president of the West Clark County School Board. TED POPP - INDUCTION 1991 | Popp graduated from St. Edward’s in 1960. He lettered four years in basketball, playing forward, and one year in baseball, playing outfield. He considers playing basketball on the same team with his brothers, Charlie and Al, as the highlight of his freshman year. Another St. Edward’s highlight was meeting his wife, Donna, who was named St. Edward’s Sweetheart in 1959. Ted is on the St. Edward’s Board of Trustees, a mem-ber of the executive committee of the Texas Society of CPAs, president of the San Antonio Chapter of Young, and lives in San Antonio with his wife and their children, Leane, Lynn, Lisa and Ted. His hobbies include hunting and fishing.VINCE RICHBOURG - INDUCTION 1989 | Richbourg lettered in baseball (shortstop) for four years and basketball (guard) for two years during his tenure (1957-61) at St. Edward’s. In addition to being voted SEU Man of the Year in 1961, Richbourg was voted Most Valuable Player in baseball and Baseball All-Conference in 1960 and 1961. Richbourg was the baseball captain in 1960 and 1961; the basketball captain in 1961; baseball’s leading hitter in 1960 and 1961; baseball’s leading home run hitter in 1958, ’59, ‘60 and ’61; and the lead in conference stolen bases, 25 of 25 attempts, in 1960. He also placed second in cross-country in 1959 and 1961.JOHN SCHNEIDER - INDUCTION 2016 | A four-year letterwinner in baseball and three-year letterwinner in base-ketball, Schneider was named first-team all-Big State Conference (Baseball-1960, 1961) and second-team all-Big State Conference (Men’s Basketball-1962-63, 1963-64). In 1962-63, he was named St. Edward’s Athlete of the Year. He helped lead the Hilltopper Men’s Basketball team to a Big State Conference Championship in 1963-64. He was a member of the St. Edward’s Honor Court his freshman, sophomore and senior years. In 1963-64, Schneider was the Student Activities Council Vice President and was honored as St. Edward’s Man of the Year.SHAWN WEINSTEIN - INDUCTION 2016 | Weinstein was a two-time all-American, three-time all-Heartland Conference selection, and Heartland Conference Most Valuable Player on the court. Off the court, the Magna Cum Laude graduate collected one Academic All-America award, two HC President’s Honor Rolls, a HC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and the SEU Dean’s List (four times). He finished his career second in steals (157), fourth in three-point field goals made (196), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.382), and tied for fifth in assists (229). He helped lead the Hilltoppers to three-straight Heartland Conference Championships and three NCAA Regional Tournaments.JOHN WELLS - INDUCTION 1993 | A 1969 graduate, John lettered four years as a guard for the basketball team and was named Most Valuable Player in 1969. John is also distinguished for having been named all-conference all four years. Now living in Cleveland, Ohio, John is self-employed. Though no longer playing basketball, John keeps active playing golf and boating.JIMMY WHEELER - INDUCTION 2004 | Wheeler was a three-year letterwinner for the Hilltoppers from 1991 to 1993. During his three years, he put up some impressive numbers, scoring 1,690 points, which puts him fourth on the all-time scoring list. He is the career leader in scoring average, tallying 20.1 points per contest. Wheeler was a three-time all-conference performer and was also named all-region twice and first-team all-America as a senior.EDMUND WOEBER - INDUCTION 1989 | Woeber was captain of both the football and basketball teams in 1923 and coached at SEU a year after graduating in 1925. He was vice president of his senior class and won the Athletic Scholarship medal in 1923.
