August 23, 2012 It seems too soon, but we are back to school full‐time now.  I am happy to report that so 

far everything is running smoothly (!).  This first week is always a little tricky with pick‐up and figuring out schedules, but by next week all will be worked out. Our kindergarteners and first graders are in the process of adjusting to new schedules and new buildings, but all of our teachers are helping them. 

Remember that our handbook is now on our improved website at www.saint‐dennis.org  and we must receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt from your family that you have read and understand the contents of the handbook.  Please return Internet safety forms quickly so that your child/ren may use the computers (open the file as a PDF to print the form). 

It is also important to check your email for the link to the Thursday folder so that you do not miss weekly announcements. 

PICK‐UP REMINDER:  Do NOT use 12th Street‐headed east‐ as a pick‐up lane unless you have a student in the ELC.  If you only have a child/ren in the “big” school, please use Washington or 12th Street headed west.  

FAMILY HOURS COUPON BOOKS AND RAFFLE TICKETS:  o When you volunteer for a job, have your coupon signed by that supervisor, and 

turn the white copy in right away! Keep the yellow copy for your own records.  If you run out of coupons, contact the school office and we will send another booklet home. 

o Most families seem to have received their raffle ticket packets.  Please sell/purchase those and return stubs with payment.  If you need a booklet, we have a short supply of them in the school office.  

SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS:   It may be possible that your child’s school supply kit was missing some supplies.  If this is the case with your child, please contact Erin Argianas directly and as soon as possible at eargianas@yahoo.com  

NEW PARENT INFORMATIONAL MEETING:  Tonight is our New Parent Informational Meeting from 7:00‐8:00PM in the school art room.  All new parents are invited to attend.  Mrs. Smith will explain school policy and answer any questions you may still have.  Also, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Meet the Teachers Night (Curriculum Night) on September 6 (7:00‐9:00PM) as well.  You can meet your child’s teacher/s, learn about our curriculum, and meet our board members. 

ELC EXTENDED CARE FAMILIES:  You will receive a list of all ELC rules and the schedule for the year.  Our Extended care will provide snack and some opportunity for playtime and homework time, but it is not intended to be tutoring or a homework club.  If your child does not complete their homework during extended care, it is family responsibility to provide that time at home.  Please remember that the ELC is open at 6:45AM and closes at 6:00PM.  Please be prompt in picking your children up at the end of the day.  

GOLF OUTING/CASINO NIGHT: With many thanks to our Golf Committee, this year’s outing appears to have raised more than $20,000.00 for the school budget!  I would also like to thank the many generous golfers who came out on the beautiful Saturday to support our school and kick off the 2012‐2013 school year!

We all know that T UI T I O N IS E XPE NSI V E . Some of us know how to PA Y L ESS F O R I T!!!! How much are Y O U going to pay? All schools have fundraisers, but they usually require you to spend more money and buy more ST U F F .  If there was a fundraiser that didn’t require you to spend more, accumulate more stuff, yet pay less tuition, would you participate? It’s simple.  Really it is.

1. Using Scrip means buying gift certificates to all of your favorite stores, gas stations and restaurants. Although you write your check to St. Dennis Scrip Program, they are the exact same certificates you would buy from the store itself.

2. Check the St. Dennis website for the new revised and easy to use Scrip order form. You will be amazed at all the stores, restaurants, etc., that are on the list. See the percentage amount next to the vendor name? That is the amount you will earn. St. Dennis earns 2% on all purchases.

3. Place your order and send payment for a week’s worth of grocery and gas certificates. Order some restaurant certificates. Really live it up and order some certificates to hold onto and use when you start your holiday shopping.  You’d be spending this money anyway, so why not use Scrip??

4. Gift certificates can be sent home with your child or you can purchase in person at school or after masses (see schedule below). Notice how some gift cards are paper and some are plastic? Look at all the pretty colors.  Now go spend ‘em!

5. You use the certificates just like cash. Spend them yourself or give them as gifts. 6. Repeat previous steps as often as needed. 7. You will receive your Scrip credit at the end of the school year and it will be

applied to the following year’s tuition.  In the past, some families have earned over $500 credit! The amount you earn will be deducted from your tuition balance for the next school year.

8. Have friends and relatives buy Scrip certificates, too! This will increase your tuition credit. See website for complete list of vendors available www.scrippro.com or www.glscrip.com or www.mannagroup.net.

You can send your order and payment (check payable to St. Dennis Scrip) to the school office any day of the week, just write SCRIP on the envelope. Please DO NOT send cash through school. Gift cards are ordered every Sunday night and will be in stock again on Thursday. Limited amounts of Scrip certificates are on hand and can be purchased:

Thursdays in the Parish Center, 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Fridays in the School Library, 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. After all weekend masses

PARENT HOURS OPPORTUNITY Dear Parents,

As you know there is no fee for any child to participate in Jubilation, Chime or Angel choirs, so on behalf of Mrs. Johnson, I am asking for your help with our largest and main fundraising project, The St. Dennis Music Ministry Fall Housewalk and Bake Sale. The Housewalk is on Sunday, September 16th from Noon to 4 pm and a Bake Sale on Saturday, September 15th from 4 pm to 6 pm and Sunday, September 16th from 8 am to 2 pm in the Church Narthex. Proceeds will be used to benefit ALL music choirs. We’ll need volunteer helpers Monday, Sept. 10th & Thursday, Sept. 13th during the day to help bake in Fracaro Hall and Friday, Sept. 14th to help with packaging of bakery and set‐up for Saturday’s bake sale. The wonderful music parents who have helped with this in the past had a great time! Any mom or dad who is free would certainly be welcome to come and help. We don’t need you the whole time, unless you are available to work the full day or you can come in for a couple hours on any given day.

If you are a working parent and unavailable to give any bakery time, we also need volunteer workers to help sell before and after all masses that weekend, Sept. 15th 430 pm mass & Sept 16th until everything is sold or 2 pm.  

The above volunteer hours count as parent hours. Bring your coupon vouchers; fill them out; bring them to me, Mrs. Johnson or Mrs. Reardon for a signature; then turn them in at the school office.

A wonderful baker from Joliet, Elaine Bice, will be donating her time to help with the bake sale project.

Welcome back to school parents, teachers, staff, and students! We are looking forward to another fun-filled year! Our PTC meetings will be during the day in the Parish Office at 1:30pm to accommodate our busy afternoon schedules with our children and families. Please join us for our first meeting August 29th!!! Especially if you are a new family and want to get involved with the really fun and exciting events we have planned for the students! Our first event will be the Daddy/Daughter Dance! Last years dance was so much fun for the girls and their dads, and we are really looking forward to this years! Please come if you can help out in any way, want to hear what we are all about, or just curious to see what’s going on.  Plus, PTC is a FUN way to earn your required parent hours!!! The more helpers we have the better the events are for our children! We truly enjoy making memories for our children that will last a lifetime!!!
