1935.ItwasthenknownasConventionoftheTeachersoftheDeaf(CTDI).CTDIwasactivein
addressingthethenissuesofthedeafchildrenandyouthandwasalsopublishingaquarterly
scientificjournal.Theorganizationwasrenamedas'TheNationalConventionofEducatorsof
theDeaf–India'(NCED-India)in1992.NCED-Indiabecamearegisteredsocietyin1995(1995-
G.B.B.2D–Maharashtrastate,Mumbai1081)with itsheadofficehousedatAliYavar Jung
National Institute for Speech and Hearing Disabilities, K.C. Marg, Bandra Reclamation,
Bandra(W),Mumabi-50.ThestatewisechaptersofNCED-Indiahavealsobeenestablished.
Thesechaptersholdstatewisemeetingsandconferencesregularlytoaddresstheregional
issuespertainingtoeducationofchildrenwithhearingimpairment.
NCED-India is committed towork towards improving the quality of educational services
providedtochildrenwithhearingimpairmentbyempoweringteachersanddisseminatingthe
best practices in the intervention of children with hearing impairment. This is achieved
throughtheNationalaswellInternationalConferenceheldinvariouspartsofthecountryin
collaborationwiththestatechapters.NCED-Indiawelcomeseveryoneinthisendeavor.

andsuitabletraining.TheUniversityisengagedinpreparingsuitablemanpowerforimparting
educationandtraining tophysicallychallengedstudents.This impliesadualcontribution
towardsempowermentofPWDsand theirmainstreaming.Most significantly,50per cent
seatsinallcoursesarereservedfordisabledstudentsoutofwhich50percentreservationis
forvisuallyimpairedstudentsalongwiththeexistingreservationpolicyofthegovernment.
Thus,thefocusofoureducationalsystemisoninclusiveandintegratededucation.
