The department provides assessment, diagnosis and management of speech, language, voice and feeding, eating, drinking & swallowing disorders to both inpatients and outpatients. Who We See The people we work with may have difficulties due to: Stroke Progressive neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Systems Atrophy Dementia Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Head and neck cancer Traumatic Brain Injury Services Provided In-patient assessment and therapy Stroke Rehabilitation Outreach services for patients following discharge Day Hospital service Videofluoroscopy clinics for those with swallowing difficulties Dementia Service: Management of swallowing difficulties Cognitive Communication assessment and intervention including Provision of Personalised Communication Passports Conversation coaching for people with dementia and their carers Alzheimer’s Café in the community Parkinson’s Disease Clinic incl. Lee Silverman Voice Therapy and Bootcamp Voice Clinic Stroke Support Group Augmentative and Alternative Communication Aids ( AAC) End of Life /Palliative Care advice and support for patients and their families Our Mission Statement: “Our aim is to provide a comprehensive, high quality service to those patients with communication and swallowing difficulties. We strive to provide prompt assessment with subsequent personalised intervention programmes involving family/carers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
