In the Sacristy, the water flagon is filled with water and placed on the lavabo tray with a towel on the Credence Table near the Ambo/Lectern. These items are labeled in the cabinets. For weekend Masses use large lavabo bowl and flagon without the etching; whereas the weekday Masses use the small cruet and tray.

In the Sacristy, get 2 corporals from labeled drawer and place them on the Altar. Position the first unfolded corporal on the center of the Altar and ensure the cross sits close to the edge of Altar. (For guidance, there is tile centered on the surface of the Altar) The second corporal should be placed directly to the right of the centered corporal. The 2 corporals should have no space between them. (See picture on right) When the Sacred Vessels are brought to the Altar by the Altar Servers, they will be placed on the corporals. If only 1 to 2 Altar Servers are present, you may need to assist with bringing the Sacred Vessels to the Altar. Prior to Mass, the Sacred Vessels are placed on the Credence Table located near the Ambo/ Lectern. The Altar servers will bring pyxes and tray to the altar for consecration. NOTE: The EMHC Lead will work with the homebound EMHCs to place unconsecrated hosts in pyxes to be placed in tray to be consecrated.

It is only necessary to use two corporals because we are now using the large ciboria for consecration and the third corporal is not needed.

Prepare the Priest’s Chalice. Father Tim and Father Lawrence have their own designated chalice. Each chalice is used as a cup. The Parish Chalice is to be used for special occasions as directed by Fr. Tim and is not to be used for distribution to the congregation. Place the chalice with a purificator on top of it. Select the Chalice Pall by the appropriate liturgical season color. The Priest’s chalice is placed on the Credence Table next to the other noted items.

The 5:00 PM Saturday Mass as well as the 9:30 and 11:30 AM Sunday Masses requires 7 chalices and 8 ciboria. (Fr. Tim’s and Fr. Lawrence’s Chalice can be counted as one of the chalices to be used) Fill each chalice (except chalices for Fr. Tim and Fr. Lawrence) about half full with wine from the labeled cabinet. Place these chalices and the empty ciboria on the Credence Table by the Ambo/Lectern and cover the chalices with a large linen cloth embossed with a yellow cross. (located in labeled drawer where Palls are stored in Sacristy). Place 5 purificators next to chalices on edge of Credence Table, and 4 purificators on the small Credence Table located at the choir side of the altar with the hand sanitizer.

• The 7:30 AM Sunday Mass requires 4 chalices, and 3 purificators on each table.

• The 5PM Sunday Mass requires 6 chalices, and 4 purificators on each table.)

Preparing the unconsecrated hosts: The unconsecrated hosts are found in the cabinet’s shelf in the Sacristy. There are 1000 hosts in each box and each box has 10 packages of 100 hosts each. The large ciborium holds 800 hosts comfortably. The small ciboria holds about 250. For the 5PM Saturday Mass start with 600 hosts. For the 7:30 am Mass start with 350 hosts. For the 9:30 Mass start with 700 hosts For the 11:30 Mass start with 750 hosts For the 5PM Sunday Mass start with 600 hosts. The large host (found in the drawer below the regular hosts) should be placed on top of the unconsecrated hosts in the large ciborium. The Priest breaks each large host into about 21 pieces after consecration.

After the ciborium is filled with the appropriate number of hosts and with the large host, bring them to the table in the narthex. Also bring the cut glass flagon filled with enough wine for Consecration for the presider and servers. The wine level is just below the handle on the container. The hosts and wine are to be brought for the Preparation of the Gifts (bread and wine). (If Fr. Tim’s and Fr. Lawrence’s vessel is being used, the wine should equal a little more than what is in the other chalices) Use a yellow cross corporal to cover the large ciborium. Also put the bowl for the medallion crosses on the table in the narthex. After Mass, when the crosses have all been returned by the EMHC’s, take them back to the sacristy and hang them up.

Place 8 small ciboria on the Credence Table for the 5:00PM Sat. Vigil, as well as the 9:30AM and 11:30AM Sunday Masses. For the Sunday 7:30 AM Mass, place 4 Ciboria, and 6 ciboria for the Sunday 5PM Mass. BEFORE MASS – The Lead EMHC will coordinate with the head usher to get a head count of the congregation (excluding children). During the homily, the head usher will give the count to the Lead EMHC and the Lead will then adjust the number of hosts in the ciboria in the narthex. The count includes adults only, not children. If the count indicates that there are more than 100 over the count in the large ciborium in the Narthex, the Lead will need to remove 50 excess hosts and return them to the sacristy. If the count indicates more hosts are needed for the Mass, place them in the ciborium on the Credence Table, and let the Altar Server know to take it to the altar for consecration with the wine chalices . We want to come as close as possible to the number of people receiving communion at the Mass. The host in the tabernacle will not be used at the Sunday liturgies unless needed. Any left over hosts will be returned to the tabernacle to be used for the sick and homebound and daily Masses throughout the week.

Empty Ciboria are in cabinet labeled ciborium's. The large ciboria is also located in the same cabinet.

After Communion

When returning vessels to the tabernacle, do not attempt to pour hosts from one ciborium to another when at the tabernacle. When consolidating Sacred Hosts, remove the ciboria from the tabernacle and use the small table with the corporal on it to do the transfer of the sacred hosts from one vessel to another. This procedure will prevent Sacred Hosts from falling on the ground in front of the tabernacle.

Place Sacred Hosts on table

Remove tall ciboria from tabernacle

Transfer Sacred Hosts to tall ciboria

Note for Saturday 5pm Lead:

Before Mass: To transfer sacred hosts from the small ciboria in the tabernacle into the large gold covered ciborium, use the small table for this transfer. (see picture on pg. 18) Remember to rinse out the empty ciboria into the sacrarium (sink without a faucet).

Note for Sunday 5pm Lead: After Mass transfer the Sacred Hosts from the tall gold ciborium into regular small ciboria vessels. First, place a corporal on the counter to place all the ciboria so that when you transfer the Sacred Hosts there will be protection from the counter should one fall . (Rinse out and pour into the sacrarium) and dry the tall gold ciboria and put it back into the cupboard, and the small ciboria should be placed back in the tabernacle and locked.

The Altar Servers bring the Sacred Vessels to the Altar during the Mass. If there is only one Altar Server the Lead EMHC will need to assist in bringing the Sacred Vessels to the Altar and removal from the Altar to the Credence Table.

After Mass The Lead EMHC/EMHCs will bring the Sacred Vessels, Purificators and other Altar linens from the Credence Table to the Sacristy.

AFTER MASS Cont.

When cleaning sacred vessels (chalices), fill the sink with soapy water, and gently swish the vessels in soapy water and rinse in clear water. It is important to not submerge chalices in water nor use a sponge or cloth. If it is necessary to remove lipstick from chalices, use purificator or terrycloth towel. Take care not to rub or scratch with jewelry (it is preferred to remove jewelry). Dry with a clean terrycloth towel and place chalices in labeled cabinet. NEVER USE PAPER TOWELS ON SACRED VESSELS.

AFTER MASS Cont.

All wine stained linens should be sprayed with stain remover and then placed into the sink (Sacrarium) with cold water. Unfold all Corporals and Purificators to be sure no stained linens are reused. If any fragments of the Sacred Host are found in the corporal, they should either be consumed or put into the left side of Sacrarium. Add water to ensure fragments in this sink go down the drain, which goes directly into the ground.

2/15/2015 23

After Mass Cont. Only unstained Altar linens, or terry towels are to be placed in the laundry bag without soaking first. All clean Altar linens should be replaced in appropriate labeled drawers. The Women’s Guild will pick up the linens after the 11:30 AM Mass on Sundays and at various times during the week.

DRESS CODE: For Men and Women, Dress is Business Casual. Your attire should demonstrate your appreciation of how your role fits within the worship experience. Dress should express respect and reverence for the sacred mysteries that are being celebrated. It is important that the way we dress does NOT detract from ministering the Eucharist. The focus should be on the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ. Also, please refrain from using strong cologne, perfume, or aftershave in consideration for those people who will be approaching you who are sensitive to such fragrances.
