St. Claire HealthCare colleagues, friends, and family joined recently retired physicians for a recognition of dedicated service reception on Friday, October 26. Each retired physician was

honored with a plaque featuring a short personal biography. The plaques will soon be displayed just outside the library on the second floor of the hospital on a wall dedicated to retired medical staff.

Clarence G. Clayton, III, DPMDr. Clayton concluded his 32-year practice where his healthcare interest began some 50 years earlier serving as a teen hospital volunteer. After returning from military service with "hands-on" medical experience, Dr. Clayton completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky and went on to complete his DPM at Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois and later a foot surgery residency at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. In 2005, he returned to Kentucky and was recruited to initiate the practice of podiatric medicine and foot surgery at St. Claire, where later he and David Victor, MD, started the wound care clinic complete with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. During his 13 years at SCH, Dr. Clayton served on the Credentials & By-Laws Committee and as Chair of the Department of Surgery in 2006. He received numerous awards during his tenure as a clinical preceptor for medical/osteopathic students and family practice residents.

Edward J. Scott, MDDr. Scott graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1975 and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver. Dr. Scott returned to Kentucky in 1978 to join the Internal Medicine Department at St. Claire and the Morehead Clinic where he practiced for 39 years. Dr. Scott was an active St. Claire Medical Staff leader. He served two terms as President, 1980-1981 and 1991-1992, and served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Quality Assurance Committee. He was a member of the St. Claire Board of Directors from 1982-1996 and the Strategic Planning Committee. Dr. Scott established St. Claire's Echocardiography Department in the early 1980’s. Dr. Scott was dedicated to educating residents and students as a member of the University of Kentucky Voluntary Faculty. He was the course director for the Internal Medicine section of the Rural Physician Leadership Program from 2010-2017 and continues to teach on a voluntary basis.

David W. Victor, Jr., MDDr. Victor completed his undergraduate degree and his medical degree at the University of Kentucky where he was commissioned in the USAF. Of 16 interns selected into the surgical residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, he was one of four that completed the program. Upon completion of his residency in 1979, Dr. Victor entered the USAF for four years. He wanted to return to Kentucky and was attracted to St. Claire by its founding surgeon, Dr. Warren Proudfoot, and its affiliation with the UK surgery department and the ability to teach medical students and surgical residents. Dr. Victor obtained a board certification in General Surgery in 1980 and one in Vascular Surgery in 1990. He retired from St. Claire after 35 years of vascular, general, and thoracic surgical practice; he also worked at the VA for 26 years. Dr. Victor headed the UK surgical resident rotation and was also head of the UK medical student surgery rotation after the RPLP was established in Morehead.

Breast Cancer Awareness 2018

SCH Went Pink Raising Awareness and Nearly $5,000 for the St. Claire Oncology Fund!Thank you to the more than 200 women who attended our annual Go Pink breast cancer awareness event on Friday, Oct. 26 making this year’s event our biggest ever! We are honored to host this event each year and be able to provide free health education and screenings for the women in our service region.

To further promote breast cancer awareness, St. Claire staff purchased more than 500 “Go Pink” T-shirts, which raised nearly $5,000 for the St. Claire Oncology Fund! These funds allow us to provide financial assistance for our oncology patients in need.

“The St. Claire Oncology Fund helps make life easier for the patients in our care,” says Chelle Gilliam, Oncology Data Specialist. “This money is used to help provide gas and food cards, subsidize medication, as well as providing lymphedema sleeves and more.”

A special thank you to all the staff who proudly purchased and wore their Go Pink T-shirts on Fridays throughout October and helped make this contribution possible!
