SUNDAY COLLECTION

January 15, 2017

Lest I forget, next Sunday is January 29, a Fifth Sunday of the month. As we have done for many

years, there will be a second collection at Mass next weekend for the St Vincent de Paul Society of St Charles Borromeo Parish. Your continued concern and generosity is a clear living-out of our Lord’s words “whenever you feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, or assist those in any need, you do so for Me!” There is a big stack of “thank you” letters that I have received in the last few weeks, and those words of gratitude properly belong to all of you who were so thoughtful and generous in so many ways. So here goes: From Open Door Re-entry Transitional Housing (assisting those recently released from jail/prison to resume productive lives): “Those served by Open Door thank all of you for sharing from your Advent Giving Tree. We are so grateful to those who organized, donated, and delivered so many much needed items. Not only our current residents, but our future residents will also benefit from your generosity. May God bless you as much as you have blessed us!” From Malachi House (hospice care for the dying homeless): “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of St Charles Borromeo Parish and the enormity of your donations. You are truly a blessing to us! You make it possible for us to offer a loving last home for our residents. Please extend a heartfelt thanks to all. May 2017 be blessed and happy.” From West Side Catholic Center (proving food, clothing, shelter, and advocacy for the poor and homeless): “Thank you, St Charles Borromeo Parish, for your support and donations. Thanks to your generosity, the West Side Catholic Center can provide care for those who come to us in need. West Side Catholic Center could not do what it does without the tremendous support of your community.” And what does St Charles have to look forward to in 2017? Here are some dates to put on your calendar: See what Catholic Education looks like in 2017. Attend St Charles Parish School Open House next Sunday, January 29, 11:30am to 1:30pm. (Please enter through the main Wilber Avenue doors.) Brian Pelcin, our Adult Faith Coordinator, will offer a three-part series on “Why We Do What We Do at Mass” on Wednesdays, February 1, 8, and 15, from 7:00 till 8:15pm in the Upper Room (third floor) of the Activities Center. Let our Parish Office know (440-884-3030) if you plan to attend. Pre-Cana Day for engaged couples. Saturday, February 18. Registration Forms available in Parish Office. Lenten Parish Retreat, Wednesdays of Lent, March 8. 15, 22, 29, April 5. LADIES GUILD DAY OF RECOLLECTION

Monday, February 20h   (President’s Day)

Our Day of Recollection will take place on Monday, February 20, 2017 with our speaker being, Father Doug Brown, pastor of our sister parish Mary Queen of Peace. Father's theme will be "Our Lady of Fatima" because this is the 100th Anniversary since her 1st appearance in 1917. What an awesome topic. The day will go as follows:

Lets pack the church and hall for this day. If you have ever heard Father Brown speak, you know we will all be spiritually uplifted and renewed. And the topic - what a better way to honor Our Blessed Mother than to come and listen about her Quest as Our Lady of Fatima.

Remember, this is open to all. Bring a friend, bring a relative, just bring someone. What better gift can you give someone than Our Blessed Mother. For more information call Pam Bennett 440-888-1469 or Pat Lawler 440-843-9186.

8:30 am We begin with Mass in the church.

9:00 - 10:00 am Continental Breakfast will be provided. (pastry, coffee, tea).

10:00 - 12 Noon Father Doug Brown speaks.

12:00 - 1:00 pm Lunch

Please bring a brown bag lunch or you can go somewhere as long as you are back within the hour. Coffee, tea and water will be provided.

1:00 - 2:15 pm Father Doug Brown speaks.

2:30 pm Closing Benediction in the church.

Merici Chapel… How many times in your life have you said, “I know I should have called” or “I was busy—I forgot, or I just don’t have the time right now—maybe later.” We could go on and on making excuses for our actions or lack thereof. What excuse will you give to Jesus when you meet Him and He asks, “Why didn’t you stop and see me? I was waiting for you in Merici Chapel, just for us to spend some time together and talk.”
