  • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." ~ Philippians 4:6 As the year 2020 comes to a close, it is probably fair to say, “So long!” as it has been a challenging time for all. However, take a moment and ponder what this year has taught us through the trials and possibly we may find the blessings even from the most difficult situations that came our way. Through it all, God never leaves us, and he waits patiently with us. May 2021 be a much kinder year for all. God Bless You & Happy New Year!

Stewardship Moment Dec.27, 2020 - The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph “…as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive.” - Col. 3:13

Forgiving is one of the hardest things for people to do. We can’t give what we don’t have. We need to receive God’s mercy and forgiveness first before we can give it to others. Go to the sacrament of Reconciliation and receive God’s mercy and forgiveness. Then, give the gift of forgiveness with someone – a family member, a friend or a

co-worker. Pick up the phone or text someone right now.

    A Happy New Year 2021!

Grant that I May bring no tear to any eye, when this New Year in time shall end. Let it be said I’ve played the friend, have lived and loved and labored here, and made of it a happy year.

  • Feast of the Holy Family - Cycle B - 2020+ Genesis 15:1-6;21:1-3; Hebrews 11:8,11-12,17-19; Luke 2:22-40

Today’s feast of the Holy Family reminds us that “family” is a very important aspect of the Christmas story. When God became incarnate in the person of Jesus Christ, He chose to be born into a human family. And like all families of this world, it was a family

of sleepless nights, fear of the future, and fragile hope and dreams. For many that translates into, not just the traditional family situation, but single parent families, broken families, those who are childless, homeless families, unemployed families. It keeps us mindful that the picture of a perfect family does not exist today any more than in the time of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Being a good father, a good mother, or a good child is not something that just happens. It is something we have to work at. And being a good father, mother, son or daughter, is the primary calling for the vast majority of us in this Church. We must have faith for this -- faith in baptism, faith in the sacrament of marriage, and faith in the love and the presence of God in one another.

Even in the Holy Family there had to be faith. Joseph had to have faith in Mary. He had to believe in her to go to such an extraordinary degree of care for her, and he certainly had to love her very much before he could believe in her. Mary had to believe in Joseph. She had to have confidence in his love, his respect, and his esteem that he had for her. She had to trust him in carrying out the extraordinary vocation God have given to her in being the mother of God’s Son.

Joseph and Mary had to have faith in the child, Jesus. Although he was, in appearance, an infant like any other, they had to believe in the mystery that dwelt within him. As we know from several stories in the Gospels, people did not always understand what he did or what he said. But they had confidence in him.

Jesus also showed faith in his parents. He was obedient to them and learned much from them. He learned, for example, what a woman was meant to be by observing his mother. Jesus learned also how to be a man, a working man, by watching Joseph. Like most fathers and sons, they must have done plenty of work together.

Do we believe in one another? To love one another requires faith in one another. We must continue, in spite of all the disappointments, to believe in the infinite possibilities, the supernatural risks, that reside in the hearts of those around us. The family circle is an irrational place where one is loved above one’s merits. And loving like this, being accepted like this, brings into the heart of the family much more happiness and goodness than can be found anywhere else.

The family must be founded on faith. Wives, if you love your husbands, it is not because he is the most extraordinary man in the world. Not the most under-standing, the most tender, the most patient, the most generous. If your love for him were because of those things, you would be tempted at times to falter if he

didn’t meet your expectation. You must love your husband because he is yours, because you are bound to him by the sacred commitment of holy matrimony, which is a source of infinite graces and sanctity, and you are nearer to the Lord with him than you would be if you were with any other man in the world.

Husbands, you love your wife not necessarily because she is the most beautiful woman, the gentlest, the most tender, the least irritable of the world, but because she is your own wife, for whom and to whom you are always responsible. You must love your wife because you are bound to her by the sacred commitment of matrimony, which is a source of infinite grace and sanctity, drawing you nearer to the Lord with her than you would be with any other woman in the world.

Parents you love your children because God has given them into your charge. You did not choose them from an exhibition of the most beautiful babies, nor from among the prize-winners in a contest. You have accepted them as God sent them. If you are truly parents, you feel in your hearts all that is needed to enable you to do a magnificent work in raising your children.

Children, you love your parents, not because they have no faults, not because they are the best parents on earth. If that were so, there would be many occasions for failing in love. You must love your parents because you cannot respect the paternity of God if you do not first love, and respect, and obey your parents.

A truly holy family is one whose members are ready to accept things that they do not understand, to pass over conflicts and misunderstanding by appealing to faith. Here they always believe the best of each other and love each other in spite of disappointments. No one is ever lost as long as there is someone who loves him or her. We can never forget, on this feast especially, that the world has been saved, and the work of redemption was carried on, because the members of a Holy Family believed in one another and loved one another.

    The Year of St Joseph

On December 8th Pope Francis declared this the year of Joseph. This is to commemorate the 150th anniversary of St Joseph being declared the Patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius XI. This is also the year in which we will be entrusting our hearts to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and

Consecrating our hearts to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and His Divine Mercy.

To prepare ourselves for this we are inviting all of you to use this prayer of Consecration to St Joseph as a part of your regular devotional prayer. To consecrate yourself simply means that you acknowledge that St Joseph is your spiritual father. This means that you pray that he can help you acquire his virtues and become holy.

A full 33 day program of consecration can be found at the following link: https://www.unleashthegospel.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/33-Days-of-Prayers-and-Daily-Challenge_ENGLISH.pdf
