Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics age 14 and older on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays in Lent.

Fasting is to be observed by all Catholics between 18 and 59 years of age on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. You may have only one full meal and two smaller meals as needed for strength. No solid food should be eaten between meals.

The Stations of the Cross are a devotion of the Catholic Church most commonly prayed during Lent. The origins of the devotion date back to just a few years after Christ’s death and resurrection. Tradition tells us that Mary and the apostles would frequently retrace the path of Christ’s passion. As Christianity spread and travel was not safe or affordable, monks began the Stations of the Cross as we practice it today. They had statues carved or stained glass windows made to depict the images of Christ’s journey. The tradition continued and grew. The Stations of the Cross are a way for us to make a pilgrimage and participate in the

suffering of Jesus. At St. Cecilia Church, we pray the Stations of the Cross

every Wednesday at 3:00pm

Friday night Stations will be held on:

March 9, March 16 and March 23

Please join us in this devotion.

CASINO TRIP

IS GOD CALLING YOU TO THE SECULAR FRANCISCAN ORDER?

The Northwest Franciscan Community of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is hosting an Informational Evening on

Monday, April 9, 2018, at 7:15 p.m.

at St. Joseph’s Home 80 W. Northwest Hwy Palatine.

The evening will begin with prayer in the second floor Chapel, followed by a brief presentation on the Secular Franciscan Order and social time. Refreshments will be served.

For more information, call Sue at (312) 403-2139 or email [email protected].

ABOUT THE SECULAR FRANCISCAN ORDER: The secular Franciscan Order is not a prayer group or club. Formerly known as the Third Order of St. Francis, it is an official Order within the Catholic Church and was established by St. Francis of Assisi early in the thirteenth century. Unlike religious brothers and sisters, those in Secular Orders--also known as Third Orders--don’t remove themselves from the world but remain in it; hence the term “secular”. Married or single women and men who are faithful, practicing Catholics are able to join Third Orders, as are diocesan priests and deacons.
