What an incredible few months! During February, St Brigid’s Green has hosted over 500 guests at our village celebrations, and in the next few weeks we’ll be welcoming our Bowen residents into their newly completed apartments.

After the formalities of the official opening it was time for everyone to let their hair down and enjoy themselves.

A BBQ meal with entertainment for all ages was held for residents, family, friends and staff on the village green. What a great response we received with over 300 people joining in the celebration, relaxing and getting to know each other, while the grandkids were entertained by our local pirate and princesses with face painting and games.

Many residents commented that the music was fabulous. We have to thank Paul, our one-man band, who was reeling off requests and golden oldies all night. What a pleasure it was to witness so many residents dancing the night away!

Richard, our Hotel Services Manager, outdid himself again with the gourmet BBQ buffet, fresh salads and beautiful desserts. It was a night to be remembered.

Family, Friends and Staff Celebration BBQ

This month we welcomed six new staff members to the care team. As well as providing 24-hour care meeting our residents’ individual needs, the team has been especially busy with extra training and preparation for opening the brand new Level 3.

Now offering 66 suites over four levels, we opened our final Aged Care floor in March, welcoming six new residents on the first day. The care team are looking forward to a busy few months as we welcome more new families.

With breakfast, lunch and dinner available, daily servicing of the suite and laundry and linen all taken care of, our residents are enjoying morning walks, movies in the theatrette, bingo and art as well as music therapy.

Plans for the courtyard garden are underway as well, with new plants and planters for the residents to tend to.

Many thanks to our volunteersThe Village Team at St Brigid’s Green would like to thank our volunteers Anthony, Daphne, Marie, Helen and Angela, who have all generously donated their time and energy to assist in the Aged Care Home. They have all been participating in different ways, such as being a buddy for new residents, or helping with activities including photography, gardening, church attendance, walks, nail painting and even just friendly conversation.

The residents and staff truly appreciate your dedication and the hard work you have done over the past month.

St Brigid’s Green Aged Care final stage now open

Sod Turning CeremonyAfter many years of planning and anticipation, the first sod was turned at St Luke’s Green on Sunday 8th March. More than 60 people attended this momentous event, which was celebrated by Rev Mgr Peter Meneely, Vicar General Archdiocese of Brisbane and Administrator of St Luke’s – Buranda Parish. In attendance were many prospective residents, local parishioners from St Luke’s and nearby parishes, representatives from the Archdiocese of Brisbane, Minter Ellison Lawyers, Nettleton Tribe Architects, builders, Greengate Property Group and the St Luke’s Green team.

“St Luke’s Green values the trust that we have been given by the parishioners of St Luke’s church and the Archdiocese of Brisbane, the broader community and our prospective residents. We are building a community, not just a set of buildings, and this community will be a safe haven for all those who call St Luke’s Green home,” said Cheryl Todd, Sales and Marketing Manager, in her welcome message following the turning of the sod.

“We will offer the lifestyle and independence that you’ve always enjoyed, with the peace of mind in knowing that support and comfort is available if and when you need it.”

Following the site blessing and sod turning, guests enjoyed morning tea in the old school building.

The old school hall was abuzz as parishioners, prospective residents, stakeholders and friends and family mingled together in celebration of the commencement of St Luke’s Green.

We will be updating the St Luke’s Green website with photos and progress reports about the construction of the village – please check back regularly to see what is happening. Visit us at www.stlukesgreen.com.au and click on the ‘News and Events’ tab on the right hand side of the page.

Apartment reservations are continuing well, with more than 60% now reserved. For those who have reserved an apartment, we will be in touch shortly to make a time to come and visit you, to go through the details of your apartment contract.

We are already moving house at St Luke’s Green. On Wednesday 4th March, the old convent affectionately known as Edward’s House, was relocated to the out-of-use tennis court at the rear of the site. The house is now in the process of being raised up on stumps and refurbished.

Eventually, the sales and marketing office will be in Edward’s House – however, with the old school building soon to be demolished in readiness for building the new village, the sales and marketing office has been temporarily relocated to East Brisbane. Our phone number remains the same, as does our mailing address.

Our temporary office is located at 26 Mowbray Terrace, East Brisbane. Please call Cheryl or Alison to make an appointment to meet either in your home or another location convenient to you.

We are excited to be almost ready to commence site works at St Patrick’s Green, Kogarah. This unique location is close to important amenities including transport, medical facilities and shops, and it showcases fantastic views that extend from the airport across the Bay to Kurnell and down to the Georges River.

We have met over 250 members of the local community at information sessions held over the past few months in the St George and Sutherland areas. It has been interesting to talk to so many seniors and their families in the local community – listening to what is important to you, and learning how we can help you with accommodation, lifestyle and care options. We take all this feedback into account when designing our retirement and aged care villages, and we already have a number of future residents who have reserved their independent living apartments tell us they are looking forward to moving into the village when it is completed in 2017 for just that reason.

If you are considering your retirement living options or thinking about downsizing from your family home, please come along to our next morning tea and have a look at the apartments and prices on off er. We have a variety of apartments to suit most tastes and styles, ranging in price from $400,000 up to $1.5 million. If you have any questions, we’d love for you to meet our team and discuss what is important to you or what concerns you have in relation to retirement living. t
