The tranquility is enhanced by majesƟc pine trees and monuments daƟng back to the mid-nineteenth century. Our primary goal is to carry out the sacred religious funcƟons of burial and care for the resƟng places of the deceased. The Catholic Church regards the burying of the dead as a deep spiritual significance and a Corporal Work of Mercy. Our cemetery has been serving the West Rutland area for more than 150 years. It was consecrated in May 1865 by Bishop Louis DeGoesbriand, the first Bishop of Burlington, and is one of the old- est, acƟve Catholic cemeteries in the diocese. Religious Education News

Religious Education classes will begin on Sunday, September 21, 2014 for grades 1-10. Registra-

tion forms have been sent out. If you have not received a registration form, blank forms are in the vestibule of each church or on our church website: www.westrutlandcatholic.org.

Please note that there will be no daily masses on Monday, August 25th or Tuesday, August 26. Mass intentions for those days have been moved to later dates. Daily Mass will resume on Wednesday, August 27th.

Women’s Retreats Offered

The Sisters of Mercy are offering two weekend Retreats for Women at Mt. St. Mary in Burlington. The first is September 5-7 and the second is September 12-14. Pre-senter is Sr. Julia Werner, RSM and the theme of the weekend is “Renewing your belief in the transformative power of love.” Cost of the retreat is $125 for commut-ers and $150 for those staying at St. Mary’s. Gifts of the Kingdom Conference

Gifts for the Kingdom Adult Catechetical and Enrich-ment Conference: The annual Gifts for the Kingdom Catechetical Conference will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Hilton Hotel in Burlington. The keynote speaker is Dr. Edward Sri, a theologian, speaker and author of several best-selling books including A Biblical Walk through the Mass, and his most recent publication, Pope Francis and the Joy of the Gospel: Rediscovering the Heart of a Disciple. March for Life and Mount 2000 Update

March for Life and Mount 2000: Registration for both the March for Life in Washington, D.C., held on January 22, 2015, and the Mount 2000 Retreat held at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in February 2015, will begin in November 2014.

Comfort Blankets Sought for Needy Children

Donations of new homemade blankets are needed for children who are needy, sick or traumatized—ages in-fant to teens– in the Rutland County area and beyond. The blankets can be quilted, knitted or crocheted. This is a community service of the Maple Leaf Quilters Guild, Rutland, Vermont.
