PLEASE PRAY FOR DALE RUMMEL DONNA McINTYRE, JAMES MARTIN, AND RICHARD GERMAN who were bur-ied from our Parish this past week. May their souls rest in the peace of the Lord. To their families we extend our sincere sympathy and prayerful support.

CONGRATULATIONS MATTEO PAX FEELEY who was baptized in our Parish last Sunday. We rejoice with his family for this sign of new life in our midst

PLEASE PRAY FOR: Joan Esswein, Anna G., Robert Good, Larry Gorski, Elaina Gras-wick, Nathan Michael Leckey, Jerry Leoni, Maysen Kate Miller, Beth Raible, Schafer Reichert, Jada Reichert, Frederick Rios, Car-olyn Rupprecht, and Val Tuite. May the healing love of Jesus be known to them.

From the desk of the Administrator Today is the Anointing of the Sick service at ASP following the 11:30 Mass. Walk-ins to the anointing are always welcome. Let’s all ask God’s blessing on those who will be anointed to find healing of their infirmities. The final session of my series on the Trid-uum is this week. Two sessions of Understand-ing the Easter Vigil will be held. The first is on Monday, 8 April, from 1-3 PM at SBP in Newmey-er Hall, the church basement. The same session will be held again on Tuesday, 9 April from 7:15-9:15 PM at SBP (due to my hearing confes-sions!). You are welcome to come to either the afternoon or evening sessions, or if you’re really crazy, BOTH! All you need to bring is yourself and perhaps some paper if you want to take some notes to remember it all. Those who have attend-ed have been appreciative. There is no pre-registration. Come and learn something about these important days in our Catholic lives. There are a gazillion confession times this week and next in preparation for Easter. Our usu-al Tuesday evening session, 9 April, from 6-7 at SBP as well as Saturday afternoon’s session, 13 April, from 12:30-1:30 at ASP will have two Priests available for confessions. The diocesan-wide “The Light is On for You” confessions are this Wednesday, 10 April, from 6-9 PM. One Priest will be at ASP, HSP, and SNP respectively. Three Priests will be available at SBP. Due to that, there will be no evening Mass at ASP or Novena at SBP on Wednesday. On 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 17 April, following the 6:40 AM and 8:00 AM Masses, an hour of confessions will be available. In addi-tion, a Penance Service will be held on 16 April at HSP at 7:30 PM with all five Priests available. Come and be freed of your sin in preparation for Easter. It’s hard to believe that next Sunday is Holy Week already! Where has the time gone? Hope-fully you’ve come to a session or two to learn something about these days. Hopefully you’ve had a joyful Lent that has prepared you for these coming days. As I like to say, this week is every sports championship, awards show, gala celebra-tion rolled up into one! This is IT, THE week of our Christian lives. Make sure you come next week to the services and enter into the Paschal Mystery, the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ!

See you in Church! Fr. Jim Gretz

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS: Sing-ers and instrumentalists interested in participating for Holy Week Masses and services should contact Tom Rishel at [email protected] or Terry

GO AND FROM NOW ON DO NOT SIN ANY MORE - Jesus encounter with the woman in today’s Gospel may be one of the most beautiful presented in the Scrip-tures. Jesus saves the woman from near certain death as the scribes and

Pharisees are ready to stone her on account of her sins. Jesus stops them in their tracks as he says, “let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” More importantly, he works to transform her heart and her life through his words and actions of forgiveness, not condemnation. How en-couraging it is to hear Jesus say, “neither do I con-demn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” Those words are not meant only for that woman, but also for us. We hear Jesus speak those words in pray-er as we turn to him for strength when we know we’ve done wrong. We also hear those words from the priest in Confession as our sins are forgiven and we are sent forth, “the Lord has freed you from your sins. Go in peace!” As we are restored to union with God in Rec-onciliation, and strengthened in the unity as we deep-en our relationship with him, our unity with our sisters and brothers in the Body of Christ is also renewed. This unity can only serve us well as we journey to-gether On Mission for The Church Alive! May we be inspired not to build each other up as we build up our Church. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

Catholic Social Teaching Fo-cus: Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers Work is important to help people fulfill their potential and everyone

must receive a fair wage to provide for their fami-lies. Jesus spent years learning and then working as a carpenter. How can our choices help support the dignity of workers? Visit crsricebowl.org and ENCOUNTER Ona, a teacher in Gaza who is using her blessing of edu-cation to educate others. ***RICE BOWLS WILL BE COLLECTED NEXT WEEKEND. Drop your bowl in the gath-ering space or, if you prefer, place your check—made out to Catholic Relief Services—in one of the designated envelopes and drop in the box provided.

Through the Diocesan Communication office, we were able to establish this new site with E-Catholic.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT APRIL 7, 2019

WHAT IS TENEBRAE?

The word “Tenebrae” is Latin for “Shadows” or “darkness.” A Tenebrae Service has an ancient tradition that usually took place during the Triduum. The purpose of this service was to remember the somber events that occurred in Je-sus’ life from the exuberant entrance into Jerusa-lem through the night of Jesus’ burial on Good Fri-day. We will be celebrating the “Tenebrae” service on Good Friday, April 19th at Holy Spirit Church at 7:30 PM. The service begins with all the lights on and gradually as various readings, psalms and hymns, candles are extinguished one by one until all the lights are off plunging the church into total darkness. In the darkness, the congregation ex-periences a loud, jarring sound which is called “strepitus” – Latin for “great noise.” The clamor symbolically represents the earthquake that fol-lowed Christ’s death. If you are looking for a “feel good” kind of service, this is not it. Tenebrae is a service that’s as dark and sorrowful as it’s intended to be. However, many have experienced “Tenebrae” for the first time and recommend that this is a great opportunity to make it part of your Holy Week ex-perience. It is sure to move you in a profound way.
