~ Reminders ~ March 7, 5:30pm is Lenten Family Session

Gather your family in your sacred space to talk about emo-

tions. Today’s Gospel is a story of Jesus showing strong emo-

tions when he sees what’s going on in his Father’s house.

This story illustrates how human Jesus was and if we are to

live fully we also feel anger, frustration, happiness and joy.

The important thing to note is what we do with the more neg-

ative feelings. Ask family members what they usually do

when they are angry. Instead of lashing out in anger, the sug-

gestion might be to take a deep breath before any words are

said or action taken. Using the energy of the angry feeling

might be turned into compassion. For example, if you see

someone being left out or bullied don’t just be angry; stick up

for the person. Turn anger into compassion and always think

about what Jesus would do. Have a blessed Sunday.

Celebrating Sunday in the Family

God’s unfathomable love for each one of us Today’s readings all speak of God’s love for each and every one of us. His love is not limited - and does not have condi-tions. Even when we turn away, God is there. He has an abundance of love that never ceases and overflows.

For me personally, the story of the Prodigal Son used to be a challenge. I thought foolishly that the young son had it all – fun at first and then not only forgiveness but rejoicing. I didn’t equate his sinful choices as separation from God and true freedom. I thought I was basically a good person and didn’t see my own sinfulness. I also didn’t understand the joy in God’s close friendship or the sorrow and emptiness from the loss of His love. I too thought the older son was being short changed by being faithful. The part where the Father said, “and all that is mine is yours” didn’t penetrate my under-standing.

Below is an excerpt from an article taken from the National Catholic Register entitled, 12 Things You Need to Know about the Prodigal Son written by Jimmy Akin: “12. What are the spiritual lessons for us? From this parable we can draw a number of spiritual lessons: We can be a genuine son of the Father--who is spiritually "alive"--and be "lost" through sin. We can turn our backs on our heavenly Father and leave him of our own free will. Mortal sin is a real possibility. Mortal sin inevitably lands us in a far worse state than we were in origi-nally. We can, however, return to the Father and be accepted by him with great joy. In fact, he is ready and eager to accept us back and forgive us, no matter what we've done. Christians who have never fallen should not resent those who come back. They should share in their Father's joy. Their own place is secure and their heavenly reward is not threatened. God loves them just as much as he loves those who come back through a dramatic conversion.”

Those “AT RISK” Lenten Project Your assistance is needed to support 20 Local Fox Cities Shel-ters & Programs for those individuals who need the very basic items for hygiene survival.

Please join in to help stock the personal hygiene shelves of your local crisis programs so that their limited financial re-sources can be used instead to provide safe housing, food, education and counseling for those in need.

The Family Radio Network invites us parishioners to support this project. Thanks goes to Fox Communities Credit Union, US Venture, Shopko Foundation, McCain, Festival, Allcox & Associates and Fox 11 for agreeing to being Sponsors and offering collection containers.

Most needed items include: diapers, bathroom tissue, body care items, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.

Donation boxes can also be found in the St. Bernadette Nar-thex as well as in the school lobby. Items will be collected through March.

Contact Dorothy at 920-427-1747 for questions. The Human Concerns Committee extends thanks for your participation in this program.

St. Joe's annual food collection continues through-

out Lent. Bags still available in the narthex.

World’s Poor Collection The World’s Poor collection provides each of us with an oppor-tunity to change lives for over 1.4 billion people living in pov-erty in this country and abroad. The four agencies represent-ed in this collection are official church agencies that help the poor and displaced. You have a choice to contribute to any one or all.

The Campaign for Human Development supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. Your sup-port of this collection, gives people a hand up not a hand out. They address the causes of poverty and provide a sustainable future for those who struggle across the country. Also 25% of this collection remains in our diocese to support local anti-poverty efforts.

Catholic Relief Services supports six Catholic agencies as they provide food to the hungry, support to displaced refugees, and advocate for peace and justice. They serve some of the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad.

Peter’s Pence Be a witness of Charity. This collection is an opportunity to share in the merciful outreach of Pope Francis. Please join together with our brothers and sisters in faith around the world to provide a little more mercy into the lives of those who hunger and thirst, strangers and prisoners, the marginalized and the outcast, victims of oppression and vio-lence.

Pastoral Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa help people across Africa grow close to Christ and the Church. People are flocking to join the church, dioceses are not equipped to re-spond to their needs. With your support, the local Church is able to nurture the faith and encourage missionary disciple-ship.

Almsgiving Opportunities

The Compass Fuels Faith More than 45,000 fellow Catholics fuel their faith by reading the Diocese’s official weekly newspaper, The Compass. They’re reading the publication because it helps guide them on their

faith journey. Inspirational stories from The Compass bring Christ right into their hearts and minds.

“With help from the Bishop’s Appeal, The Compass provides readers with reliable news, information and inspiration,” says Sam Lucero, Compass editor. “Each week, stories and col-umns help reveal our Catholic faith. And they deliver more than just news. They challenge readers to explore and absorb Christian values in the world today.”

The Compass is made possible by the Bishop’s Appeal; please prayerfully consider a gift today. Visit the Bishop’s Appeal website at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give, or call Tammy toll-free at 877-500-3580, ext. 8123.
