Province of IndianapolisExtension of Dispensation

19 October 2020While commending our pastors and pastoral life coordinators who

have gone to great lengths to assure safe worship spaces in our churches, given the continued increase of Covid-19 cases in our state, the Indiana bishops hereby extend the dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation beyond 1 November 2020 until further notice. The Indiana bishops will continue to monitor the situation to determine when it might be advisable to modify or lift the dispensation.

In addition to the statement, the Archbishop asked that the following be communicated:

Both clergy and laity must make every effort to maintain the availability of open churches and public liturgies by following public health guidelines and employing various safety protocols, including:

• The wearing of face coverings;

• Social distancing;

• Enhanced cleaning measures

Further guidelines, due to local situations, may be necessary in a particular parish.

Welcome Christopher Jaeger – This Saturday past, December 19, at the 5:30 Mass Christopher Jaeger was accepted into the Order of Catechumens! Celebrating the ritual of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens is an important step towards baptism. Our

parish community accepted him as a candidate for baptism. Now, Christopher is officially part of the household of Christ! He’ll be dismissed after the Liturgy of the Word to reflect upon the meaning of God’s Word in this life. This study of God’s Word is an essential element in Christopher’s preparation for initiation at the Easter Vigil. Please, pray for Christopher and our other catechumen, Helio Kuok.

Please contact Rita at [email protected] or 812.232.8421, ext. 112, if you’d like to join us for some good conversation on Tuesday nights via Zoom or if you’re interested in the Church’s ministry of welcoming the seeker.

Join us! – A group of young adults meet on Wednesday nights via zoom, 7-8pm. You can find out

more about Young Adult Ministry on the St. Benedict Young Adults, Terre Haute Facebook Page. You can also contact Jason Allen directly for more information and for the Zoom link. Text him at 812.244.3510.

Don’t Throw Out Those Hymnals!

With the First Sunday of Advent, we en-ter a new liturgical year. That’s normal-ly when we change out the hymnals, too. This year, we are going to hold off on putting out the new hymnals until things normalize a bit. So, please continue using your current hymnals for the time being. Booklets with the Sunday readings for 2021 will be available in church and in the parish office., These free resources can be used in conjunction with the old hymnals until the new hymnals can be used.

Merry Christmas! Christmas time has come again. And what a remarkable year it has been. We’ve seen church families band together to help each other and support our congregation with time, talent, and financial contributions. But greater seasonal participation is always welcome. Since we can’t all gather in person to celebrate and worship this year,

St. Benedict Church encourages you to use our eGiving tools to make your Christmas offering.

To learn more, visit our church website at www.stbenedictth.org/donate

We thank you for supporting our mission this Christmas season!
