Dare to Care:

St. Jean Brebeuf School will be hosting a Dare to Care Parent Information Night: Bully Proofing Your

Child.

This night is scheduled at St. Jean Brebeuf School on Tuesday, November 7th from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., and

is a collaborative event with Our Lady of Assumption and St. Basil School.

If you are able to attend, please RSVP at: Dare to Care Parent Info Night

Information on the program: All parents want their children to be happy and successful. Finding out that your child is having problems because of bullying, either at school or online (cyber-bullying), can be an upsetting and stressful experience. Bullying behavior is not always easy for adults or children to recognize

or define. A fight between friends or siblings, or rough play between children with equal power is conflict, not bullying. Bullying is when a person or group of people repeatedly and intentionally use their

power to hurt, embarrass, threaten or exclude another person.

Participants in the 2.5 hour Parent Information Night will learn about the scope of the problem in today’s

society as well as the difference between normal peer conflict and bullying. Also, because we are living

in a digital age, it is critical that parents be aware of what their children are doing on-line. Tips and guidelines will be provided so parents can help their children make positive choices while using social media and other technology. To conclude the evening, parents will also learn six, non-reactive life skills.

School Council News: Our 3rd Annual Cheque Writing Donation Campaign will begin next week. We will

be sending an envelope home with the youngest or only child of each family. St. Basil School and St. Basil School Council are respectfully asking families to write one cheque for the year to replace the inconvenience

and pressure of on-going fundraising ventures throughout the year. The funds from this campaign will go

directly to enhancing educational and vocational programs at St. Basil School. 100% of your donations go towards our school and students. All the information regarding the campaign and what we are raising money

for will be in the brochure you will receive.

Transportation Route 120 Time Changes: Route 119 remains the same however there has been a change to route 120 which will take effect on November 2nd. Route 120 will now be called Route 90 and there is

a slight difference in timing (1 to 2 minutes) for the ride home at the end of the day. We do hope that the changes made will enable your child to arrive at home on time and provide consistency. We will send home

a copy of the change on Monday, October 30th with your child.

Friday Oct. 27, 2017 RE: CHRISTMAS FOOD HAMPERS AND BLESSING BASKETS Dear St. Basil Families, It is hard to believe that Advent 2017 is almost upon us and thus a very busy time for St. Vincent de Paul as we are in the thick of the planning for the Christmas Hampers for all of our dear friends we serve in our surrounding communities. This year we are suggesting that we scale back the size of some of the wonderful hampers that we have been able to deliver to our friends in the past five years. Thus, we will have the opportunity to serve more families in the community as so many are in need. We would like to give food hampers and blessing baskets this year, all of which would be accompanied by an array of local gift cards. The idea is that these families can make many choices for gift giving themselves for their own children. This accomplishes so much as it maintains their dignity and allows them the JOY OF GIVING what they may not have been able to enjoy otherwise. Furthermore, this kind of more modest giving on our part falls further in line with the five virtues of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul which are:

1 – HUMILITY 2 – SIMPLICITY 3 – MEEKNESS 4 – HOLINESS 5 – ZEAL

The families are always so thankful for the generosity of our community! The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is always very grateful and amazed at the creativity and immense generosity of your community at St. Basil School. Any assistance would truly be appreciated so very much! Further details will be forthcoming from St. Basil School. May God truly Bless St. Basil’s School Community! Yours truly,

Connie MacKenzie Youth Advisor, Society of St. Vincent de Paul
