Main Point: Jesus promises that he will provide. We don’t need to worry about food or clothes, because we are so very important to God.

Discussion Questions Read Luke 12:22-28 from the Bible Story (pages 1-2)

1. Things seem pretty strange at the moment - many people are home all the time! With all this change, what are you worried about at the moment? (It seems like there are a lot of things to be worried about - school at home or less kids at school, not seeing your friends or grandparents, not playing sport or people you know getting sick.)

2. What do you do when you are worried? (Parents: This is a great opportunity to LISTEN to your children and let them share how they normally cope with worrying situations. Or perhaps you have already observed some behavioural patterns lately in your child - do they become more introverted and spend more time alone? Do they ask lots of questions? Do they have trouble sleeping? Encourage the children that the best thing to do when we are worried is to TALK about it. Remind them that you are there to listen and support them. But as well as this, that GOD is there to listen ALL THE TIME!. One of the best things we can do is pray to God about everything we are worried about. God is the safest person to turn to because he is control, he knows us, he loves us and he promises to provide for us.)

3. What does Jesus say we should do? ( Jesus tell us that we shouldn’t worry. He gives us examples of the flowers and birds - God makes sure that the birds are fed and the flowers are clothed. It would seem silly if flowers wondered what they were going to wear! Jesus makes the point that we are more important to God than flowers and birds, so we can trust he will care for us.)

4. How does it make you feel knowing that God cares more about you than the birds and the flowers? (Perhaps it makes you feel safe and secure, or loved and cared for. Or perhaps all of these things and more!)

Read Luke 12:29-30 from the Bible Story (page 3)

5. What should we spend time thinking about? (We should be thinking about God’s kingdom. This means focusing on on how much God loves us, that Jesus never leaves us, and that our future with God is certain. These are amazing promises that help us be confident in the most important things.)

6. What are some of the things that God has provided? Can you list 5 things you can see right now that God has given you? Spend some time thanking God for all he has given us! (Examples might include a house to live in, family to love you, friends, food to eat, parks to visit and the Bible so we can know God.)

Prayer Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you care for our environment, but that you love us even more. We bring to you everything that we are worried about. You know us and you love us, so please help us to see clearly how big and deep your love is for us, so there is nothing we need to be worried about. God, thank you for all the ways you provide for us. Please help us to see how you have provided, be thankful and trust in your goodness. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Do Not Worry 22 Then Jesus spoke to his disciples, “Do not worry. Don’t worry about your life and what you will eat. And

don’t worry about your body and

what you will wear. 23 There is more to life than eating. There

are more important things for the body than clothes.

24 Think about the ravens. They don’t

plant or gather crops. ST BART’S KIDS SUNDAY \\ MAY 3, 2020 1

But God feeds them. You are worth much more than birds!

25 Can you add even one hour to your life by

worrying? 26 You can’t. So why worry about the rest?

27 “Think about how the wild flowers grow. They don’t work or

make clothing, yet they are beautiful. 28 If that is how God

dresses the wild grass, how much better will he

dress you! After all, the grass is here only

today. Tomorrow it is thrown into the fire.

29 Don’t spend time thinking about

what you will eat or drink. 30 People who are

ungodly run after all those things. 31 Put God’s kingdom first. Then those other things will also

be given to you.
