    10th Sunday in Ordinary Time

    God Has Visited His People!

God is mystery which technically means, hidden. But historyassures us that God never intended things to stay that way! Thetruth is that the God who knows us through and through wants tobe known by us. For this reason God has been revealinghimself to the world since the moment he began creating it!Whether proving himself as the greatest Artist in the universe byforming galaxies that leave us in awe or creating a human brainand nervous system which baffles and amazes us in itscomplexity, God proves that he has no equal. Besides theseexamples of natural revelation we remind ourselves in the creedthat God has spoken through the prophets that is, he has alsorevealed himself through supernatural means as well: the HolyScriptures (e.g., the 10 Commandments). In the scriptures wediscover that God is good, holy, just, merciful, compassionate, all-powerful, demanding, patient, faithful, loving and true.

But it is in the person of Jesus Christ that God literally bares itall! Christians consider Jesus the fullness of revelation. Ifyou have seen me, Jesus would say, you have seen theFather (John 14:9). In an obscure little town in Judea Godsnuck into our world completely under the expectant gaze of thehighest religious figures and revealed himself to the poor whileliving among them.

The challenge for the Church today which as Christ Body onearth is to embrace and live out the ongoing mission of Christ insuch a way that people are left without any doubt that God is intheir midst. After Elijah ministered to the widows son, in theBook of Kings, the widow immediately glorified God for visitingher home. When Jesus did the same for the grieving mother intodays Gospel the reaction was the same: Oh-my-God is-

with-us! As an eternal being God will always to a degreeremain a mystery to us. However the fact that he dwells in ourmidst must not remain a mystery to our world. If we as churchembrace the mission that Christ has left us, then the truth ofGods presence will be a mystery no more.
