If it has been a day, he will probably need to address the penitent’s scrupulosity or some other issue the penitent is dealing with. So, don’t be worried, give the priest an approximate time, so he knows if he needs to assist you with the process or not. If it has been a while, he should simply say “welcome back”.

Fr. Brian’s Blarney Confessions

It seems that I have helped out with

confessions at more neighboring parishes this

year than in the past. In some ways this is

good, because we seem to be getting a tighter

network of priests in Monroe as well as my

neighbors to the south in the Toledo Diocese.

In some ways it can be bad because it can be

very time consuming, taking me away from

the parish.

I remember being an associate running all

over creation helping out, but being

exhausted well before Christmas or Easter

Sunday. I tried to limit myself as a pastor

only helping out at a few parishes in the

Monroe Vicariate, because of that

exhaustion. It is one thing when the special

Masses can be split between a couple of

priests, but being solo, it can add up very

quickly.

Since I have been offering Mass once a

month at Mt. Carmel, it has been a good way

to meet other parishioners there or seeing

ours who go there after they get done with

work or vacation. It has been uplifting seeing

the different people coming to confession at

the different parishes, being reconciled to

God.

Most know the formula “Bless me father

for I have sinned. It has been “x” since I have

been to confession”. Though, some don’t or

they get hung up on the “x” – the time since

their last confession. Some of the penitents

get embarrassed and struggle with telling the

confessor their time away from the

Sacrament.

The time since your last confession gives

the priest an idea of where you are spiritually

as well as some practical information. The

time simply gives the priest a gage to know if

he needs to help the penitent out. If it has

been a month, you know what you are doing, so the priest won’t need to help you. If it has

been a year, you probably know what you are doing, but the priest may need to help you.

If it has been more than a year, the penitent probably has forgotten the procedure, so he

will probably need to help you out. If it has been a day, he will probably need to address

the penitent’s scrupulosity or some other issue the penitent is dealing with. So, don’t be

worried, give the priest an approximate time, so he knows if he needs to assist you with the

process or not. If it has been a while, he should simply say “welcome back”.

Dear Ladies of the St. Anthony Catholic

Church Prayer Blanket Ministry,

Del and I want to thank you, first for the

prayers that you have offered on our

behalf during this difficult time, and

secondly, for the beautiful blanket you

lovingly crafted and presented to us. Del

has used it often as he has napped on our

porch near the lake.

God is hearing and answering prayers

for healing and we are so thankful and

give Him praise.

May each of you be blessed for your

faithfulness as you continue to bless

others with your love and kindness.

Sincerely, Jane & Del King

Christmas Eve Masses: 4pm, 6pm, & Midnight Mass; Easter Vigil: 9pm. Masses with 1st Communion,

Confirmation, etc. as needed.

Captains: One for each regular weekend Mass time; one co-captain in case the Captain isn’t there.

The Captain/co-captain will be the main contact for each Mass and has the responsibility to: Be at their specified Mass each week; (if not able to be there, will make necessary phone calls to be sure there is

someone to cover for their Mass time; possibly a Co-Captain.)

Arrive 15 minutes before Mass

Recruit 3 other Ushers for their Mass

Pass on any messages received from the Priest or the Parish Office

Take general notice at each Mass for special needs or requests: anyone who may be ill, 2nd collections, etc.

General Responsibilities for all Ushers:

1. Your Mass’ money bags are in the cabinet by the balcony steps. Place them on the top of the cabinet before Mass.

2. Ring the outside bell 5 minutes prior to Mass.

3. Only seat parishioners in the balcony when the main church pews are full. Parishioners may only sit in the balcony

seats by the stairs. Only the Choir may be seated in the choir seats.

4. For parishioners with car seats, ensure a mat (provided on the Ushers’ shelf) is used to avoid scratches to the pews.

5. Due to fire code, any parishioners standing MUST stand at the East and West walls of the church.

6. Parishioners who arrive late should not be seated during the Readings, Gospel, Homily, Eucharistic Prayer, or

Consecration.

7. Ring the inside bells at the beginning of Mass at Fr.’s cue. (In case of a visiting priest, ring the bell on the hour - 5,

9, or 11 - once the Priest, Lector, and Altar Servers are in place).

Offertory Collection:

8. Assign aisles to the ushers.

9. For the offering, the 4 ushers should begin their walk upon the start of the Offertory Hymn.

10. All 4 ushers should walk up the rows evenly for collection and bow before collecting the offering.

11. Collections should go into the proper bags, bags to be zipped, and placed in the wicker basket.

Offertory Procession:

12. The Altar servers, the parishioners with the gifts, then the ushers with the basket line up at the back of the church.

The gifts and the wicker basket with the collection bags are taken up together. Offertory gifts are given to the

priest; then the Usher gives the collection bag to him. All bow, then parishioners, followed by the Ushers walk

back.

Communion & Dismissal

13. Ushers move forward after the Communion Antiphon. Bow when you get to the front pew, then “dismiss” pews

one at a time for reception of Holy Communion.

14. After Mass, pass out the Messenger: 1 bulletin per family. Ensure you have enough bulletins at each entrance.

Bulletins are located in the cabinet by the balcony steps. Return any remaining to the cabinet.

11am, or last Mass of the weekend: divide all remaining bulletins between the front vestibule and the Narthex.

15. Check the pews and church for any forgotten items and place them in the lost and found area at the back of the

church. Rearrange the books in their proper order to ready the church for the next Mass.
