Sunday in Ordinary Time OUR DEEPEST NEEDS
The word of God serves up a tremendous feast for us today.
Isaiah beckons all who hunger and thirst to come to the Lord
for satisfaction. The psalmist cries out, “The hand of the Lord
feeds us; he answers all our needs” (Psalm 145:16). Saint Paul
tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Fi-
nally, in the Gospel, we hear the story of the miraculous feed-
ing of over five thousand people from a mere five loaves and
two fish. Most of us have our material needs met on a day-to-
day basis. These scriptures, nevertheless, have much to say to
the contemporary believer. We must ask ourselves, “Where
are my deepest hungers? Where are my thirsts?” After mate-
rial needs are satisfied and, in some cases, over-satisfied,
many people still experience a deep longing for spiritual bal-
ance and well-being. As the loaves and fish are multiplied in
today’s Gospel, perhaps our prayer can be a longing for the
satisfaction of the deepest needs that only God can fill. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

BOTH FRIDAY Morning and WOMEN’s Wednesday Lec-

bor Day) and when we learn new protocols for keeping men,
women, children and teachers safe from further transmitting
COVID-19. Thank you! - Janie
(Please call me with your thoughts) Blessings on all ... In the
event that corona virus numbers keep going up with more posi-
tives and more deaths, it may be that we should exercise our
patience and wisdom and wait until next year, 2021.
Thank you!

The time has come. Ronnie Fetsch and
Gerald Marnell are going to be ordained
as deacons for our parish August 15th at
St Mary’s Cathedral. Due to Covid-19
restrictions only immediate family is
allowed to attend. Friends and parish-
ioners are encouraged to view the cere-
mony.
www.amarillodiocese.org/live
It will be live-streamed from the cathedral at 10:30 am. It
will last until about noon. You can watch the live-stream
but because of the volume, there could be buffering prob-
lems so that it may appear to freeze up. The better quality
experience would be to watch the archive version, which
will not have that problem. The archive version will be
up within 15 minutes or so of the end of mass, so 12:15
or 12:30- ish.
The archive version can be accessed through the Diocese
of Amarillo website or on You-Tube. Just go to You-
Tube and search for the Diocese of Amarillo, and it
should be right there, the first one listed.
We thank you for the prayers, encouraging words, sup-
port and help these four and a half years. We are excited
to start serving you as deacons.
Ronnie and Debbie Fetsch
Gerald and Denise Marnell

and named him Logan Bradley. He was
born at 10:54 a.m. and weighed 8 lbs 6
ounces and 21 1/2 inches long. We are
proud first-time grandparents (Gwen and
Jerry Betzen) and great-grandparents are
Anita and George Wilhelm and former pa-
rishioner Agnes Betzen. Renae and Austin
currently reside in North Carolina where Austin is sta-
tioned at Fort Bragg Army base. Congratulations to you
all on your new bundle of joy!
DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT: Jerline Bartels, 86,
passed away Wednesday, July 22. A prayer vigil was
prayed Friday, July 24 and a Mass of
Christian burial was celebrated Satur-
day, July 25. Jerline met Erwin Bartels
and they married April 21, 1954. The
Bartels moved to the Hereford area in
1957. Jerline loved gardening and can-
ning for the family’s meals, she was an excellent baker
and cook, and had a well loved pet Chihuahua named
Bambi, and loved all animals. Jerline was very devout in
her faith, praying the Rosary at least twice a day. She en-
joyed watching game shows on T.V. especially The Price
is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. She was a
Dallas Cowboys fan and loved to watch the games. Sur-
viving members in our parish are sons Donald Bartels,
Rick Bartels, and Bryan Bartels.
The family suggest memorials in Mrs. Bartels name be
made to St. Anthony’s School Endowment Fund.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Bartels family
during this difficult time.
From the desk of our pastor, Father Tony Neusch.
The gift of saying, “Good Bye.” I’m not for sure that I’ve ever seen it as a gift, but it has certainly become
one. There isn’t a need to embrace, and promise to stay in touch, and if ever you’re in Hereford, TX you have a
place to stay. “Good Bye’s” aren’t necessary if your life hasn’t been changed. Farewells are false if friendship isn’t
shared. Until next times are empty if you don’t really want to see them again.
I’ve learned that as exciting as “Hello” can be, it is the gift of “Good Bye” that changes a person. You don’t realize
the small portion of your heart given away until it turns and returns to the home it doesn’t really belong. But all is
well because that bit of you given away has been replaced with the bit of them. An authentic “Hello” can be shared
with any one, but a true, “Good Bye” can only be shared among friends. With Jesus Christ, “Hello” and “Good
bye,” require no separation. Our life in Christ is an exchange of the complete heart, in Christ there is no separation
only presence.
