26th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

We continue our prayers and support for the people affected by hurricanes

in the southern USA and Caribbean's Islands, as well for all those affected by

all natural and human made disasters around the world.

This weekend we continue to make a request for our participation in the

Catholic Ministries Appeal. It is a major fund raiser for many diocesan minis-

tries and services, that are essential to our Catholic life on Long Island, as well

as in reaching out to those in need around the world. Catholic Ministries Appeal is one of our ways to be

charitable and sharing our faith with those in material and spiritual need. As Jesus says: "Whatever you did to the

least of my brethren, you did it to me." Let’s not hesitate to support those ministries, especially that after we

fulfill the goal assigned to our parish, we get back 20% rebate, so it becomes a support to our own parish as well.

In the Gospel of this Sunday, Jesus gives us a parable of two sons, one of them is rebellious and the other is

a pleaser, who says what parents want to hear without doing what he promises. The rebellious son is resentful of

being asked to work in the vineyard and lacks a respectful response, but ultimately corrects himself and goes to

do what his father asked him. Instead, the second son pleased his father with positive answer, but failed to make

it happen in reality, perhaps distracted by his own personal interests. It is obvious, that the first son even with his

initial rebellion, later goes to do the will of the father. The second son seemed to be right in response at the

beginning, but never did the will of his father. The apparent knowledge of the will of his father, was not enough

to win over his laziness or his personal interests.

Jesus compares this situation with the behavior of the sinners, who do wrong things at times, but ultimate-

ly the experience of life brings them back to God, as true and only source of all happiness. More difficult it is with

self content and self righteous people, who apparently being self sufficient and self fulfilling do not see the need

of turning to God.

In the second reading Saint Paul invites us to be humble in considering ourselves and others, and not to be

selfish and seeking vain glory. He gives us a description of Jesus humble, servant attitude; it is a statement that is

one of the most beautiful words made about Christ: Philippians 2: 5-11;

"Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard

equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in

human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death,

even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above

every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the

earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Saint Paul, gives us this most beautiful description of the attitude of Jesus and tells us how through humility

and obedience Jesus fulfilled God's purpose and will. Subjecting himself to the cross and gaining salvation for us

all, Jesus gained power for his name to subject all things to himself for the glory of God the Father. Every knee

must bend at the name of Jesus! All authority is given to Him. Jesus is the Lord!!!

Jesus is the son who understands the Father, knows his will, and humbly cooperates with the plan for the

good of all, making it a total success for everyone who turns to his name for rescue and salvation.

Do we need to be rescued and saved ? What is it, that we need Jesus for in our lives? Let us pray that we will

become humble to follow the example of Jesus and learn to follow in his footsteps by serving others for the good

and salvation of our own and for all. Jesus save us all !!! Jesus save me !

We continue to pray for all our adults and youth who received and will receive Confirmation, that they always

grow in friendship with God.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas. Continuamos nuestras oraciones y apoyo para las personas afectadas por los huracanes en el Sur de los Estados Unidos y la Islas del Caribe, así como por todos aquellos afectados por todos los desastres naturales y pro-vocados por el hombre en todo el mundo. Este fin de semana seguimos solicitando nuestra participación en la Apelación de Ministerios Católicos. Es un importante método recaudador de fondos para muchos ministerios diocesanos en Long Island, así como para ayudar a los necesitados en todo el mundo. La Campaña de

Ministerios Católicos es una de nuestras formas de ser caritativos y compartir nuestra fe con quienes tienen necesidades materiales y espirituales. Como dice Jesús: “Todo lo que hiciste con el mas pequeño de mis hermanos, me lo hiciste a mi.” No dudemos en apoyar esos ministerios, especialmente porque después de cumplir con la meta asignada a nuestra parroquia, recuperamos el 20% de descuento, por lo que tam-bién se convierte en un apoyo para nuestra propia parroquia. En el Evangelio de este Domingo, Jesús nos da una parábola de dos hijos uno de ellos es rebelde y el otro es un complaciente, que dice lo que los padres quieren escuchar sin hacer lo que promete. El hijo rebelde esta resentido de que le pidan que trabaje en la viña y carece de una respuesta respetuo-sa, pero al final se corrige y va a hacer lo que le pidió su Padre. En cambio, el segundo hijo complació a su padre con una respuesta positiva, pero no logro que sucediera en la realidad, quizás distraído por sus interés personales. Es obvio que el primer hijo aun con su rebelión inicial, luego va a hacer la voluntad de el padre. El segundo hijo parecía tener razón en su respuesta al principio, pero nunca hizo la voluntad de su padre. El aparente conocimiento de la voluntad de su padre, no fue suficiente para vencer su pereza o sus interés personales. Jesús compara esta situación con el comportamiento de los pecadores, que a veces hacen cosas malas, pero finalmente la experiencia de la vida los devuelve a Dios, como verdadera y única fuente de toda felicidad. Mas difícil es con las personas auto suficientes y auto complacientes, quienes aparentemente siendo auto suficientes y auto complacientes, no ven la necesidad de volverse a Dios. En la segunda lectura, San Pablo nos invita a ser humildes en la consideración de nosotros mismos y de los demás, y a no ser egoístas y buscar la vanagloria. Nos da una descripción de la actitud humilde y servicial de Jesús; es una declaración que es una de las palabras mas hermosas que se dicen acerca de Cristo, Filipenses 2:5-11: “Tengan en ustedes la misma actitud de Cristo Jesús, quien, aunque tenia la forma de Dios, no se aferro a

su igualdad con Dios. Mas bien, se despojo de si mismo, tomando la forma de un esclavo, en semejanza humana; y encontrado humano en apariencia, se humillo, haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte, incluso la muerte de cruz. Por eso Dios lo exalto mucho y le otorgo el nombre que esta sobre todo nombre, que en el nombre de Jesús se doble toda rodilla, de los que están en el cielo y en la tierra y debajo de la tierra, y

toda lengua confiese que Jesucristo es el Señor, para gloria de Dios Padre.”

San Pablo, nos da esta hermosa descripción de la actitud de Jesus y nos dice como a través de la humildad y la obediencia Jesús cumplió el propósito y la voluntad de Dios. Sometiéndose a la cruz y obteniendo la salvación para todos nosotros, Jesús gano poder por su nombre para sujetar todas las cosas a si mismo para la gloria de Dios Padre. ¡Toda rodilla debe doblarse ante el nombre de Jesús! Toda autoridad le es dada. Jesús es el Señor!!! Jesús es el hijo que comprende al Padre, conoce su voluntad y coopera humildemente con el plan para bien de todos, convirtiéndolo en un éxito total para todo aquel que recurre a su nombre en busca de rescate y salvación. ¿Necesitamos ser rescatados y salvados? ¿Qué es lo que necesitamos de Jesús en nuestras vidas? Oremos para que seamos humildes para seguir el ejemplo de Jesús y aprendamos a seguir sus pasos sirviendo a los demás por el bien y la salvación de nosotros mismos y de todos. ¡Jesús sálvanos a todos! ¡Jesús sálvame! Continuamos orando por todos nuestros adultos y jóvenes que recibieron y recibirán la Confirmación, que siempre crezcan en amistad con Dios. Dios les bendiga a todos!!! P. Stan

ANNOUCEMENT This coming week on

October 1st our loved MARGE is

taking her retirement from work in

our parish after 13 years of great

service and twenty seven years in the Diocese of

Rockville Centre. Her assistance to the pastors

and to the parish is impossible to enclose in

words. Her professionalism and vast experience

of the life of the Church and her common sense

made our parish office and parish life a place of

family experience. I want to thank Marge for her

faith and service to God and to people. We were

blessed to have Marge on our staff to lead and

guide our efforts to serve everyone to the best of

our capacity. Marge gave her heart and soul to

her service by embodiment of many roles: from

being good boss, responsible office manager,

hard worker, person of great faith to being

everybody’s mother and sister and friend, always

with a smile on her face.

Marge was involved in everything that

was happening on our grounds: from consoling

the families who suffered the loss of their loved

one and preparing for funerals, to preparing

boxes of food for food distribution in pandemic

time, from preparing any spiritual service in the

church, to cleaning after any activities in the

church or office. She didn’t need to be told to do

anything, she just did it if it should be done.

Marge you are amazing person, great worker,

great believer, great friend. I hate the idea of you

retiring - it will force all of us to be more

responsible because you were the source of

security and comfort to us who worked with

you. Thank you for everything!!!

Concluimos hoy con la “triada” sobre la Palabra. La primera, fue la guía para leer el Nuevo Testamento en “menos de un mes”; la segunda, el domingo pasado, hicimos un ejercicio de aplicación del Evangelio en relación a los sacramentos de la vida cristiana.

Hoy, corresponde hablar de San Jerónimo, traductor de la Biblia, es por esto que el mes de septiembre (es el mes de la independencia, dirán los centroamericanos, también), la Iglesia lo dedica a la Sagrada Escritura; la “gran deuda que tenemos los católicos” es el poco tiempo que dedicamos a la Biblia, y no digo a la “Palabra de Dios”, pues ésta, efectivamente, la escuchamos en la misa, leerla mas y estudiarla es algo que debemos aprender de otros hermanos cristianos “no católicos”.

San Jerónimo tradujo del griego y el hebreo la Biblia al latín, éste era el idioma de las élites (entre ellos los sacerdotes), la gente entendía “un poco el latín” pero no lo leía ni hablaba, de paso no había biblias impresas, la Biblia se popularizó por la invención de la imprenta y la traducción a la lengua vernácula de la gente, esto tiene que ver mucho con dos personajes históricos: Gutenberg y Martin Lutero. La historia de la Iglesia condicionó que los católicos rezáramos mucho, fuéramos a misa y recibiéramos los sacramentos, adoramos al “Santísimo”, hiciéramos novenas y procesiones, y que la Virgen se apareciera por todos lados …mientras que a los “pobres evangélicos”, a causa de la Reforma Protestante, lo único que les quedo fue aprender a leer para “comprender la Biblia”; el que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga (cf. Mt 13,9-15).

La semana pasada alguien se me acercó muy emocionado porque está sintiendo la inspiración de rezar el Rosario todos los días antes de dormirse, le explicaba que las 150 Avemaría que antes hacíamos (pues, en la actualidad son 200, Juan Pablo II agregó los Misterios de la Luz, es decir, 50 Avemaría más) correspondían a los 150 Salmos de la Biblia, en un tiempo que no habían biblias, la gente no sabia leer ni escribir, por tanto, el Rosario era una ‘”oración de analfabetos” [150 Salmos = 150 Avemaría] por lo mismo, en la actualidad, correspondería leer los Salmos (pues, ya no somos analfabetos) y también rezar el Rosario (porque somos católicos).

ORACION PARA LA CELEBRACION DEL MES DE LA HERENCIA HISPANA

Dios Creador, Te agradecemos por la riqueza de nuestra diversidad, nuestras culturas, tradiciones e idiomas. Gracias por todas las formas en las que nos permites celebrar nuestra humanidad y adorar tu divinidad. No permitas que olvidemos nuestro legado, pues nos recuerda de donde venimos, ni que despreciemos nuestras raíces, pues son las que nos impulsa a seguir adelante. Dios amoroso, en medio de esta celebración de la herencia, ayúdanos a no dejar atrás a los mas vulnerable y marginados en Latinoamérica. Que nuestra Fe nos llene el corazón de caridad para apoyar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas, con el fin de que ellos también tengan un futuro prometedor. Guíanos para escuchar las voces de los que claman a ti, para poder responder con tu amor, tu paz y tu justicia.

Dans notre société de consommation chacun essaie de faire sa propre volonté. Chacun écoute sa propre voix en vue de sa propre réalisation. Nous chrétien, notre réalisation n’est pas seulement une entreprise humaine mais encore plus divine. Ecouter la voix du Père et être obéissant à la volonté du père.

Dans la première lecture le prophète invite le peuple de vivre dans la droiture pour expérimenter la grâce du pardon. C’est Dieu qui justifie toujours. La question n'est pas de savoir si les véritables justes devien-nent des apostats. Il est certain que beaucoup de ceux qui, pendant un certain temps, ont été considérés comme justes le font. La plénitude du pardon de la miséricorde demeure une initiative de Dieu. Le péché quand il est pardonné, il est effacé, il n'est plus rappelé. Dans leur justice, ils vivront ; non pas pour leur

justice, comme si c'était une expiation pour leurs péchés, mais pour leur justice, qui est l'une des bénédic-tions acquises par le Médiateur. Les vrais croyants veillent et prient, et continuent jusqu'à la fin, et ils sont sauvés. Dans toutes nos disputes avec Dieu, il a raison et nous avons tort.

Dans L’Evangile du dimanche nous contemplons le Père propriétaire de la vigne, demander à chacun de ses deux fils : « Mon enfant, va travailler aujourd'hui à ma vigne » (Mt 21,29). L'un dit "oui" et n'y va pas. L'autre dit "non" mais il y va. Ni l'un ni l'autre ne respecte sa parole. C'est certain, que celui qui dit oui et reste à la maison ne prétend pas tromper son père. Ce doit être par paresse, mais non seulement "paresse de faire quelque chose" mais paresse d'y réfléchir également. Sa devise : "Moi je m'en fous de ce que j'ai dit hier". Celui qui dit "non", se sent concerné par ce qu'il a dit hier. Il se repent de son arrogance

envers son père. De sa douleur il prend le courage de rectifier ce qu'il a fait. Il rectifie ses fausses paroles avec un geste vrai. "Errare, Humanum est” ? C'est vrai mais ce qui est encore humain -et plus conforme à notre vérité intérieure- c'est de rectifier. Même si cela nous coûte, car cela signifie s'humilier, écraser la vanité et l'orgueil. Cela nous est déjà peut-être arrivé de corriger une action précipitée, un jugement témé-raire, une évaluation injuste… et après avec un soupir de soulagement se dire : Merci Seigneur !

« Amen, je vous le déclare : les publicains et les prostituées vous précèdent dans le royaume de Dieu » (Mt 21,31). Saint Jean Chrysostome souligne la psychologie parfaite du Seigneur devant ses "grands-prêtres” : « Il ne leur dit pas directement : ‘pourquoi n'avez-vous pas cru en Jean ?’, mais, ce qui est en-

core plus pointu, il les confronte aux publicains et prostituées. Ainsi il leur reproche, avec la force frap-pante des faits, leur malice dans leur comportement marqué par l'entêtement humain et vantardise ».

En se mettant dans la scène, nous regretterons peut-être l'absence d'un troisième fils, d'un ton moyen,

dans lequel il nous serait facile de nous reconnaître et nous demanderions pardon avec honte. Celui-là nous nous l'inventons -avec la permission du Seigneur- et nous l'entendons répondre au Père : ‘Il se peut que oui, mais il se peut que non’. Et certains disent avoir entendu à la fin : ‘...c'est le plus probable mais qui sait’.
