Religiosa Las lecturas de hoy nos enseñan que el amor de Dios por nosotros tiene prioridad sobre nuestro amor por él, y que su elección por nosotros tiene prioridad sobre nuestra elección por él. En una sociedad que le da tanto valor a la "libertad de elección", esta verdad es especialmente importante. Es la elección de Dios sobre una vida humana lo que le da su justo valor y no nuestra elec-ción sobre ella. Es la decisión de Dios de confiarnos el cuidado de unos a otros, que crea las responsabilidades que tenemos hacia la vida humana, no de la elección que hagamos para ser responsables de ellos. Si tenemos la responsabilidad de amar y

cuidar de la vida humana, comenzando con nuestros propios hijos basada en la elección eterna de Dios y su decisión de amarnos entonces noso-tros no tenemos el derecho moral para rechazar esa responsabilidad, amor y vida. Dar la vida, por otra parte, es la misma revelación del amor de Dios. "De esta manera el amor de Dios se nos ha revelado: Dios envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo para que tengamos vida por él”. El comando que se nos da es el del amor, por lo tanto, es un mandato tanto para recibir como para dar la clase de amor que Dios nos da. "Amaos los unos a los otros como yo los amo". Tenemos que dar la vida por los demás, que es exactamente lo contrario a que otros la den por nosotros.

The readings today teach us that God’s love for us takes precedence over our love for him, and that his choice of us takes precedence over our choice for him. In a society that places such a high value on “freedom of choice,” this truth is especially important. It is God’s choice of a human life that gives it value, not our choice. It is God’s decision to entrust us to the care of each other that creates the responsibilities we have toward human life, not the choice we make to be responsible for them. If our responsibility to love and care for human life, starting with our own chil-dren is rooted in God’s eternal choice and his decision to love us, then we do not have the moral right to reject that responsibility, love, and life. Giving life, moreover, is the very revelation of God’s love. “In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him”. The command given to us to love, therefore, is a command to both receive and give the kind of love God shows. “Love one another as I love you.” We are to lay down our lives for one another, which is exactly the opposite of laying down oth-ers’ lives for ourselves.

The story of St. Joseph, who was a carpenter, the husband of Mary, and the foster father of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that St. Joseph was a "just man" and that God gave him the

most daunting task ever asked of a man–to be the husband of the woman who would give birth to the Messiah and the father and pro-tector of this Holy Family. He would be the man closest to Christ. We are shown the human, noble, and deeply spiritual aspects of Jo-seph the carpenter, son of David, servant of God, and loving husband of Mary. He is presented as a man of faith who must grapple greatly with the profound mysteries of the miraculous conception, the Virgin Birth, the Incarnation of the Son of God, and the incredible challenges of protecting and raising Jesus amidst the threats on his life from the moment of his birth and beyond. As Joseph is informed by God's messengers about trusting and follow-ing his plan for Christ, the dangerous flight into Egypt to save his child, and finally returning to Nazareth to raise Jesus, this lovely film presents beautiful vignettes of these and other powerful scenes in the life of the young Christ and the Holy Family that are authentic and inspiring.

Families WILL NO longer be allowed to register their child for Parish Religious Education (PRE) after August 31st. New Registrations will no longer be accepted on or after the first day of PRE.

Registration dates to choose from: Child must be present for ID photo June 1st-August 31st in the parish office Wednesday August 1st at 6:30-8:00pm in Mary’s Hall- Sunday August 5th 9:00-10:30am in Mary’s Hall- After August 6th – 31st in the parish office.

$50 registration fee per family AND $50 volunteer fee Installment payments can be made thru the office over the summer. Registration is required before August 31st, even if registration pay-ment cannot be made at this time.

Come and spend some time with Moses the Cat and the Cat.Chat Fami-ly as they talk about Mary, the Mother of our Lord and of man. It’s a celebration of this wonderful woman who loved God and others so much that she dedicated her life to God’s plan to save us. Run Time: 30 mins.

The theme for the 2018 Bible Institute is: “A Lively Sense of God: Treasuring the Old Testament Witness to God.” Brother John Barker, OFM, will be the keynote speaker. He is a Scripture professor who teaches at Catholic Theological Un-ion in Chicago. This event also includes prayer, small group faith sharing, discussions with the speaker and Mass. It be-gins at 7 p.m. Friday, 6/15 and ends by noon on Sunday, 6/17. The $125 registration fee includes four meals. It does not include housing. Participants may request on-campus housing at St. John Catholic Center at the time of registra-tion. Single occupancy is $40 per room, per night and double occupancy is $50 per room, per night. Space is limited with fees by Friday, 6/1. Scholarship requests up to $50 are availa-ble. Pre-registration is required. The Bible Institute is sponsored by Little Rock Scripture Study.
